I found it difficult to understand without your favourite AC-DC heavy rock music blasting through the earphones; without your girlfriend screeching "OMG, OM-effing-G" on a 3 second rotation throughout; and without your Mom saying vacuous things and cackling that characteristic empty headed wymminses cackle after each sentence. I put my disappointment to the side though, and found it was most enjoyable simply enjoying what my eyes could see. 😁😂 Thank you!
I used to work just out the front of this shoreline at PINES Cabaret and go for a surf went it was the right conditions…..let me just say I don’t miss the welly cold water lol - me and dad used to go diving everywhere….Pukerua bay….all the way out to Island Bay….searching for Kinas………good times and wonderful memories………..I felt Paekakariki always had some hidden spots for a nice wave……it was my fav place to hang too
Hi - thanks for your comment. But this is the original file - Its shot on a Panasonic FZ80 @100FPS - so no audio. I agree, its a bit boring without audio - I should have added anouther track from audio recorded from other shots at normal speed. Anyways, it gives you an idea of what 100FPS looks like.
This is more footage from that day - anyone who knows the South Coast will know these rocks off Island Bay - and that waves dont break over the top of them very often - th-cam.com/video/lUzBSvl_jvg/w-d-xo.html
Surfing on a mini mal board and on a smaller wave day,but better formed waves.. Over 10 years ago . Fully tubed for 6-8 seconds(deep in the wave/twice in the same day. On the far side as shown on the video. I was impressed and haven’t repeated.
Thats kind of the effect I was going for. The FZ80 has a great zoom lens ( 120x Optical ). The waves were recorded as 10meters that day in Cook Straight and I waited for a while for that set to come through - this was a big wave.
good grief Emil. Take a trip. Somewhere nice and warm and safe to swim. Buy a boogie board, very cheap, so you can ride the waves. Maybe buy goggles so you can look at the little fish and waving weeds under the water. it is wonderful. There is nothing like walking in bare feet through soft foamy waves on a beach as the suns sets. It is deeply peaceful and connects you to all the earth and all times.
Used to go body surfing there as a kid in the 60’s . 🙄 Some fairly big waves that would come up suddenly and if you weren’t careful would dump you head first into the sand. Not a good spot for surfing as too rocky on both sides of the beach!!!

Appears off-shore wind, can't imagine what it would have been like with the wind behind iti !!
It would have been smaller. Offshore wind picks the waves up , makes them bigger.

Good on you. Enjoyed that. Cheers 🇳🇿
Amazing footage.

That's AWESOME
Gorgeous
Slow motion and no sound 🤨. Upload the original video at full speed. Not trying to be disrespectful. Thanks for sharing

That would have looked scary from up the road there.
Or from down the road

I live about 600 metres from Houghton Bay, on the hill to the left.
The waves were hard to gage when the camera is focused on the wave. Need perspective, otherwise it just looks like a wave.
Yes - this is one of those occasions when use of the zoom has made the scene all but meaningless.
Amazing to watch. While on a boat... not so much.

Was there a quake or something that created this giant wave?
Just a storm. Looking out to sea- next stop South America. Popular surfing spot and part of a Marine Reserve.
Here are other shots from the day - wasn't just one wave, more like a storm - th-cam.com/video/lUzBSvl_jvg/w-d-xo.html
Did you manage to get shots of the June 2021 storm?
No - it never cleared up, ie it was too rainy and windy to get the camera out.
I remember the wahine disaster there April 15 th 1968
Hard to get any sense of scale from this video
Yes, zooming in + slow motion to make the waves appear bigger.

Some don't believe unless they see infront of them it's changing all over ☹️🙄🙄

Yeh those rocks lol…..got me once or twice and the scars to prove it lol……got me good and split my eyebrow wide open on one of those nice jagged edges
Pretty gnarly place to go swimming or surf if there is any kind of swell!
O poder do mar!!! Belíssimas imagens!!!
doesn't look particularly big , nothing for scale
These are other shots from that day FYI - th-cam.com/video/lUzBSvl_jvg/w-d-xo.html
