2:16 the arrangement of the enemy space stations on the right is in the shape of the constellation of Orion, and the one two levels after is the Big Dipper plus Polaris the north star on the top left
FINALLY FOUND IT!!!!! for years was trying to remember the name of this game! I used to play this game for hours at the arcade near home. Thank you @hirudov2d for this video, you brought so many memories from my childhood.
@@timhill3534 I whish. I was just happy to have found this video. For years I was trying to remember the name of this game I used to play a lot back in 1989. Now I can try to find the actual machine but it might be very difficult and also expensive
@timhill3534 Bosconian machines are kinda scarce due to them being converted into other games Galaga especially. In fact Bally Midway converted some Bosconian machines at the factory into "White Galaga" units. So if you ever see a Galaga in a white cabinet it was likely a Bosconian at one point.
I think most people's first exposure to this game was on a plug n' play, and the port for that seems pretty bad compared to this. No diagonal movement, no voice clips, and 2 very short music loops that get maddening after playing for a while.
I have this on the pac man 35th anniversary connect and play and it's the exact arcade port. Same sounds and visuals also my favourite game on the system
On other versions of the game you get a "condition red" if you let 3 spy ships pass. Also once you're on a red you should get no more "formation attacks". But on this version, even if you shot all the spy ships you still get a condition red.
I was lucky enough to find this game tucked away in the hotel me and my parents stayed at. I barely left the hotel i was playing this game so much. Never saw it again.
Go look it up on Wikipedia. It’s success was stunted due to Galaga. Such a shame. I’ve never seen it until I discovered it on one of my old PS1 retro arcade discs earlier this year.
I first played this in the very late 90s, early 2000s when I was a kid, through a collection of Namco titles, pretty sure it was a Namco Museum title on PlayStation. This game slapped. For 1981 it's insane how immersive the game is just by giving you free 8 directional movement and all the things you could shoot. It actually felt like you were flying through space shooting down enemy ships.
I suppose the battle stations carry gas tanks to light on fire and throw at the ships, because if you shoot at the center of the station, it blows up, so that's where they might keep the gas tanks.
I would like to port this thru SGDK, and somehow include an option to have 4 way directional fire as an option and maybe some other goodies to make it unique
This game is criminally underrated
Never got a remix, or arrangement. It should have.
I've played it a ton in my life it's pretty basic though
I can burn an 8 hour day here…
Love this game!

@@zacharymabb4873 Yes it did. A fan made a 3D version online. It's web-based.
Today I played this otherwise unknown game to me for the first time on my Namco Retro console. And I gotta say, a hidden little gem.

Nice spot! You have forbidden knowledge...
I would’ve never guessed that. What I did know was that there’s three different versions of this game, all with unique layouts.
I've always loved the way it says, "Alyme, Alyme!" instead of, "Alarm, alarm!" 🤣

I thought it said “Alive! Alive!”

Yeah, but my second exposure is the PS2 Namco Museum Collection with the 80’s music

My first exposure to Bosconian was in PJ's Game Room in Juneau AK. in 1981. 😁
Nope.
Namco museum vol 1.
My plug n play had the exact arcade rom minus the diagonal movement

The bosconian ship looks awesome, it can shoot forwards and backwards
42 anniversary of bosconian
Every time it said, "Alive!" "Alive!" I'd yell back, "Dead! "Dead!" at every destroyed ship. 🤣

I love Bosconian, but even for an arcade game, it’s extremely loud!
I bet they had a Japanese guy that didn't know English to do the voice lines for this game.
They did have one. Hideyuki Nakajima did the lines for Bosconian.
