    This guy explained this wonderfully and went to google more information about rocks and crystals I need for a project at work. Turns out he died 10 years ago.
    Rest in Peace man, you left the world a lot better with having your passionate well explained teachings left for the future to digest easily

    Just one minor detail - most salt defined as ‘table salt’ isn’t harvested from anywhere near the sea. It’s simply mined from sodium chloride quarries. Sea formed salt has been shown to be slightly healthier than table salt, and it is a true flavoursome seasoning, whereas table salt simply adds saltiness.

    Are there any visible differences between a natural crystal (formed in the earth over time naturally) and the ones people do themselves?

      Kawaii but Psycho Interesting question. I, however, don't know the answer to that lol

      The man made ones tend to be more bright and feel warmer to the touch but sometimes its hard to spot the fakes.

    You didn't mention crystal formation by sedimentary processes.

    How old are crystals?

    Crystal formation does not require "room" for them to grow (i.e., fluid-filled open space). Case in point, well-formed garnet crystals in schist.

      Geology of Gems & Minerals / he was referring to crystals such as those with terminated points, for example, which do.

      most crystals are fine underwater. expect for a few sulfates that are water soluble.

    @onefodderunit Faces on a mineral are formed due to their chemical composition. The way the elements arrange in a crystal lattice determines the outer shape of the crystal :)

  • @ActiveStorage
    @ActiveStorage 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    yes. but now, the questions are... what defines the arrangement of the elements in the atomic crystal lattice? Number of electrons? Number of neutrons? Temperature? Rate of change of temperature? The shape of electron orbitals? (if so what defines their shape?) Why hydrogen has only 1 electron orbital and not 2? why oxygen atoms in H2O are at the 104.45 degree angle? After all there is no such thing as a "snow flake-shaped crystal lattice of ice" to begin with..

    So a crystal is not really describing what something is, it's more about how it was formed and it's current state.
    So if I said I found a crystal. That would not be enough information, because I am just describing something that was formed into a nice flat form that is pretty.

    He sends down from the sky, rain, and valleys flow according to their capacity, and the torrent carries a rising foam. And from that [ore] which they heat in the fire, desiring adornments and utensils, is a foam like it. Thus Allah presents [the example of] truth and falsehood. As for the foam, it vanishes, [being] cast off; but as for that which benefits the people, it remains on the earth. Thus does Allah present examples. quran chapter the thunder verse 17
