Just did this to mine last week. I wish I saw this video before I did mine it would have answered some questions I had. But this is also the reason I don't take my stuff to somebody else to work on. Pulling that bottom sump off without the motor being cleaned is inviting crap to fall into the motor. Sink to the bottom of the oil you left in and you would never see a small rock or stick or greasy dirt that fell in. At 11:34 look at the crap that is left in the sump not to mention the oil that got on the gasket surface. Oil is cheap it should have been drained before disassembly. Then if you would drive the seal in all the way it would never pop out and you would not have to notch the lower sump with a chisel. That seal will go down another good 1/8 inch into the sump housing. At 3:30 look at how far into the case the factory seal is. Not a hater just hate hack jobs.
I just did mine. The issue was that some one had done the same job years ago and siliconed the gasket back into place closed it up and sold me the machine. I have to admit that it was good for many years . However when I opened it up the surfaces were not flush and smooth like I expected but rather look blistered on the one side and pitted on the other. I filled the blisters off and sanded the surface best I could then used gasket maker in addition to the new gasket closed it up as required and hoped for the best.
A leaking crankcase shaft seal can sometimes be fixed by adding a couple of ounces of AT-205 ReSeal, or similar product from Amazon, to your oil. It worked on my leaking power steering pump shaft on my 2000 Ford Expedition. I only used about 1/3 of the bottle. It is worth a try on the crankshaft seal, since it is a lot of work to remove that engine. It makes synthetic rubber swell a tiny bit, which is often enough to stop small leaks around rotating shafts. Never put it in brake systems.
@lmsmallenginerepair4471 hey sir, where is that video or how would I find it? I searched on TH-cam l&m small engine repair emgine removal' no luck. Thankyou, great video
I did this to my engine and tried I started it and it revved to the moon! I tried to adjust the governor and I still can’t get it to idle correctly. Any idea what I could do? I saw that
If you're the same mark from that place? You sound like him and look like that mark person I met there when I was about 10.,or 11 possibly 12 bye that time to. Maybe A second grader by then.,or sixth grader one of two.

Well done...removed engine yesterday, will be finishing today. Thanks so much!
Glad it helped

Awesome job mark I still remember you guys from down in Florida. At saint Augustine, Florida settler's area at the settler's heritage Day's harbour.
Nice step by step guide. Thank you. Could not find anything on removal of the engine, connections, etc. Any suggestions?
i have videos of engine removal

Hi, so what caused the gasket to blow out in the first place.
the gasket didnot seal. or the bolts go loose
Excellent presentation. Now if I could only get the nerve to remove the engine from my Ferris.
You can do it!
This the same process for the 24 and 25 HP ones I assume? 2008 Exmark Quest with a 24Hp Briggs 44000 series engine.
Thanks mark.
Welcome!
just out of curiosity how much do you charge for a job like this? My B&S engine on my tractor does the same thing.
Just the video I was looking for... thanks!
Glad I could help!
So as to not lose oil out of the dip stick opening, should I tip the engine over the opposite side of the stick , or front to rear?
the best way is drain the oil. i did not drain oil, it was new oil.
Figure out how to maximize the EGR system and reduce the crankcase pressure as a long term fix on the gasket blowouts
I'd like you to steam clean that bad boy before you start.
Nvrmnd. I heard your reasoning for not cleaning it first. Makes sense.
How come when I flipped it over I had oil come out all over the place

was the governor hocked up right

Man I put my engine upside down and oil came out any where it could lol
Start by draining the oil next time 😃
Same thing happened to me do you why it leaked and his didn’t??
@@AndrewMuehlberger we could have flipped it the wrong direction I let mine drain all the oil it took a while but I'm not in a hurry
What a mess, you should clean the engine before doing the job !
EASY? 😂
yes, thanks for watching
