I love the new tone of this, but I noticed one thing missing, I didn't see Jazz getting thrown out the house lol. Hopefully that happens at least once.

The original already has some pretty outstanding dramatic moments as it is: such as when Will finds out Carlton is carrying a gun and when Will’s dad walks out - these moments were made more effective by the fact they were in a show that was predominantly a light hearted comedy.
@@NostalgicHearts Why not? They made it for today's audience, who never saw the original. I think with this it will go deeper as to why Will actually left Philly, and show deeper the struggles he went through to fit in with his new life.

This was a couple of guys who made a fan film on their own. It was well received on social media and then caught the attention of Will Smith himself. He decided to back these guys and make it a reality.

Doesn’t matter how gritty and emotional they try and make this, it won’t get you in the feels the way Will saying his dad didn’t want him, did in the original
That moment was so emotional because Will wasn’t acting. Those tears were real. He was in that moment because his real dad left him at an early age.
Wills real dad did not leave his mum did for a few years because his dad beat her then they worked it out and got back together. I just finished his book and he talks about it in there
Because back then they knew how too make a show and the actors feel relatable. Now just like this show they are over hollywoodfied. More of shock and awwhh then actually things ppl go thru.

For those of you old enough to remember the 1960s western called Bonanza one of the longest running and highest rated westerns on tv from 1959-1972. It was a good mix of comedy, drama and well balance fun.
In 2001 they tried to remake the show called the ponderosa which took the comedy out made it extremely real life and dramatic and squeezed the fun out of the show.
This remake is exactly that. They took the family made hybrid comedy/drama fun show that everyone loved and put a huge dramatic twist to it that some will probably reject. Everyone remembers Carlton as a Tom jones loving preppy for example here his character is so out of tune.

I grew up with "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" when it first aired, and I'm on my first re-watch since then, and this show is *so* much more realistic. I'm actually having a hard time re-watching the original cause it's so goofy early 90s sitcom-y (they made it pretty basic, cause at the time, Will Smith couldn't really act.) This is what "Fresh Off the Boat" *should* have been...
I love that not only did you love Morgan's trailer so much that you made it into an actual show, but you can see recreations of scenes HE shot in HIS trailer done in this one. Super cool move Will.
It helps that Morgan Cooper is a writer, director, and producer on this series

I grew up watching this. Just about EVERY episode & this is MILES from what I watched. No one will catch the feelings of the real one.
They guy playing Will really nails it! But I'm having a hard time seeing Carlton as being considered "cool" in Bel-Air.
They seem to have taken all his geeky quirks away and kept the parts of his personality where he flexes his posh lifestyle and looks down on Will for not being as cultured as he sees himself.
Carlton was cool and popular in the first season of fresh prince and they made him into a dork as the show progressed
Carlton WAS cool at his school that's why he and Will didn't get along in the beginning of the show because Will stole Carlton's thunder n Carlton was jealous

This looks like a very intense drama compared to the original! Kind of like “Snowfall” meets the original plot….I’m very interested to see its development & cast! 👏🙌
It's based on a short made by a TH-camr a few years back. It was basically a trailer for a drama version of the original story.
I'm pretty sure it was intended as just a parody, and just another video for the creator (clearly took a lot of work and no doubt he was proud of the final product) who apparently didn't have any real grand design to do more with it.
It was just a great video that happened to trend right when Will was getting active on here, and he actually vlogged when he reached out to the director and committed to making this a reality.
For anyone who happened to be blessed by the algorithm right when the video started popping off, it's especially wild to see it all unfold.
But either way if you just dig the story, it's pretty awesome watching it come together.
Check out the original video, and Will's vlogs on it. You might have to poke around to find those vids, but imo it's totally worth it.

As a huge fan of the original show, I am not a big fan of this being associated with it. It was extremely funny and heart warming at the same time. The best part about the original was how relatable it was to everyone and how good it made you feel regardless of your origin. This to me looks like it's trying to achieve the opposite.

@Adam Gould That's a terrible comparison because Cobra Kai is a direct spinoff of the Karate Kid films so of course it's still the same genre. This is a completely different retelling of Fresh Prince. If they make it a comedy, it won't stand a chance of holding up against the original show, but since this is more of a drama, it can stand on its own. Pretty easy concept to understand.

I feel very conflicted. It looks like it’s shot amazingly well, but I also feel like they could’ve named his something else and it could’ve turned out just as great. I hope it takes the IP to another level and that it is successful. Art can be reinvigorated in many ways, hopefully they do the characters justice
Maybe that's why they dropped the "Fresh Prince" part of the title? I've always known the show as "The Fresh Prince" and some of my friends refer to it as that as well. Also I feel like the calling it "Bel-Air" is fitting. Bel-Air is Will's second chance. Bel-Air is trying to change him, and would it change him for the better or for the worse?

The biggest appeal of the series is that it’s a reimagining of the original.
Otherwise, had they created this series on its own, I feel it’d be very difficult to grab an audience, at least in the beginning.

I think it will have some humor, maybe not as much as the original, but this has a more serious tone. Also, just from the trailer, I saw a ton of homages. Basketball off the head. The hat turned sideways. Dice on the mirror. The prep school uniforms and Will turning his inside out.
This was created by fans of the original (Seriously, check out their fan trailer) so I think a lot of heart went into this.

This is going to be.. Very strange. I grew up with Fresh Prince, Uncle Phil filled out the father role that many of us lacked and Will was someone a lot of us looked up to and envied but also related to. I'm both excited and nervous as to where this series will take us, given that the original fans are a lot older now and have a different view on life. But the trailer sold it really well, so far!

You can have SIMILAR experiences but they are not the same. Even with other characters or movies I’ve seen where they went through something, they reminded me. I personally never felt though to say I relate to this because I know how that feels. Because in all honesty, how would you even KNOW what they’re feeling when their emotions can be a variety too in that moment?
Again, personally, for me it’s about reminders and taking these lessons from characters/stories. Everyone though can have their own interpretation
This is actually very clever. If you're going to make a remake, maybe you can make it into a different genre or a combination of genres. Fresh Prince of Bel Air is timeless, so the producers were smart to not compete or compare with the original.

yess im glad that this didn’t try to do what so many sitcoms do, try to be the original but instead add it’s own personal touch, reimagine and embellish on the original, pay homage to the story through characters, plot, but keep what it’s creating. this trailer looks promising and the idea of bel air as a drama is hype enough, it just has to live up to it’s hype. this trailer is definitely good but i kind of liked the original better. both have good suspense but the actual trailer is just 👌🏽👌🏽

My feeling is they’re trying to get away from the sitcom actors and make this its own thing, and the original people in the trailer really did remind us of the sitcom actors. These new ones don’t. I, too, would have liked to see the show with the ones they used in the 2019 trailer, but yeah, I’ll still watch, too.

The reason why this works so FREAKING WELL is because at the heart of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, there was HEART. There was a message and it was speaking to a whole audience. I am excited beyond measure and can't wait until this premieres!

This has a lot of potential, Fresh Prince was always full of social commentary, the comedy was just its genre, changing the genre but keeping the soul of the show its were is at.

It seems like a really good series, which kind of has the vibe of different one and not of a recreation, which is in my opinion very good, because a simple recreation could never be better or even as good as the Original.
Just watched the Pilot and think the whole thing is genius. So many layers and important conversations offering an entirely refreshing perspective on this beloved sitcom. From the writers to the acting,, it is superbly executed. Very excited to watch the rest - and really glad this was made into a reality!

I love the original Fresh Prince, but this has ZERO charm of the original. I don't care if it's grittier and heavier, I didn't watch the original show for that. I watched it for likeable characters and humor with occasional good drama. This literally just looks like any Tyler Perry drama movie with the name Bel-Air slapped onto it to make it seem like a successor to the original show. I legit would never guessed this has anything to do with Fresh-Prince of Bel-Air if it weren't for the fact it's got Bel-Air in the title. Hard pass for me.

I do hope they make this available on multiple platforms for global audiences. I love the tone and the topical overlay to a show which was one of the sources of a lot of good times and joy for me as a teen. I can’t wait to watch this!

Wow, this is crazy, I was at the “Fresh Prince” Pilot taping May 1, 1990 at Sunset/Van Ness Studios! I still have my ticket In my storage. What’s even crazier is I met another Philly Phenom Kobe Bryant a few years after that at Sunset/Bronson Studios a block away.
Somethings are better left untouched and this classic show is one of those things.
The original show had the feeling that anyone could relate too and actually learn life lessons…this one be it only a trailer doesn’t have that feeling, but more of a drama, cliff hanging ending episodes to make you want to watch the next one to see what happens next unlike the original that you just wanted to watch the next episode because you genuinely enjoy the show.
This isn't intended to be a remake or compared to the OG sitcom. This is a wildly different show.

Just wow. That generational transition is so impactful and I see a real gritty side to this story about to come to light and show us the real will smith.
The original series had a lot of serious moments. From Wills father not wanting to be there, drugs in a boys life and a kid from the streets speaking about Malcom X with his uncle. If you think the original was nothing but comedy I feel bad for you.

Wow! 1st off I'm really excited that Coco Jones is a part of this remake, it's great 2 c her doing something, she's hella talented. Also, I'm surprised to see that this is a drama. The core characters and premise is the same, but it's shown in a different light and given more detail as to why Will has to go to Bel-Air. It looks like it's aiming to balance the familiar with the new and that's always a good thing. There's a lot of promise in this reimagining of the Fresh Prince, so let's just see how well it gets executed. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this might be the 1st time a sitcom is being restructured as a full on drama

It is not the first time that they turn a sitcom into a drama. The same thing happened with Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which was originally a comedy and they turned it into a drama.
The change that surprised me the most is that of Carlton, that the new one is very, very different from the original series, being in some aspects its opposite.

I just binge watched all the episodes(5 so far and it’s like 2:20am here) and it’s damn good. It keeps that element of the original that kept you hooked, while adding a new level of drama, the acting is amazing, and overall is very intriguing. It ain’t the original but if you keep it separate, you’ll love it.

Aunt Viv & Uncle Phil we’re representation of Black American culture…. No one from the continent would ever allow us to do this to shows that represented their culture. You saw what they did to Beyoncé. Black American Culture Matters. Here it is, BLACK AMERICANS ARE FACING Zero wealth and our representation just in this trailer alone makes it look like we are helpless without someone else from other cultures picking us up and changing us into something great, when that is far from the truth. I love you Will and will always support your projects, but this one could have really magnified the greatness Native Black Americans/FBA/American Descendants of Chattel Slavery/US Freedmen are made of. I’m sorry for the long post, but just wanted to share what we are feeling and going through. It’s serious things and attacks going on in our community and it seems like NO ONE CARES about what we are going through.

This looks good, though not as much as Morgan Cooper’s incredible 2019 trailer. That said, it seems like they were trying to get much further away from the sitcom versions of the characters, which the actors in the original trailer definitely evoked more. I will be interested to see this for sure.

Yeah, but those "small details" are just "member berries" to inspire nostalgia in the viewer in order to string them along to stay and keep watching. It's a technique that works on a lot of people, as opposed to just having a strong story that speaks for itself and stands on its own. It would be better if it was its own show with its own original title and characters.

I’m interested on how all the wealth is shown on this version since it’s more elevated than in the original, or in the trailer it’s a bit more extravagant, feel like the original was more subtle wealth, and this one is a bit more showy yet trying to hold the subtle, taking into perspective what they’ve experienced I’m assuming which has me hooked already
I agree but I also feel like Bel Air has grown to such extravagance. Growing up in Silver Lake, it was crazy to see people I already thought were millionaires begin to live like billionaires, while we stay getting poor they stay getting rich.

Honestly this seems like a great take. Phili has always been known as a nasty place, and the OG show always slightly bugged me that nobody ever really acknowledged it or dived into that. Yeah it’s a comedic show, but this new take on it was definitely a smart move. It builds on all the right pieces.
This has the potential to be genuinely good as long as the direction was well.

True. They downplayed it on the OG version but I kinda understand why. With this one I'm glad they're getting more real with it. Hopefully there are a few lighthearted moments (but not too much) to give it a decent balance but this take seems like a smart one for the times.

& they did show Philly quite a few times. They had the one episode where they went to where they used to stay there. They worked in the soup kitchen there. And they episode where Carlton became “c-note” werent they in Philly then? There was an episode where Will went back to stay with his mom too I think. There were a few episodes that showed it I remember for sure.
But yeah I agree with the other comments, every city has bad areas.
