    Tom, Your ability to explain and show how to use tools is amazing! You are a great teacher and helping so many people understand how to capture better pictures with their equipment. Also congratulations on reaching the milestone of over 1,000 subscribers! I am positive your channel is going to grow exponentially.

    Haven't tested the autocapture yet, very exiting way to get some genre photos. Wild animals closeups with wide angle e g. Thx for sharing

    The synch speed shutter... that's my only gripe with the Z9, I had 1/320s on my D810! Also looking at what they have on the Canon bodies, "face priority exposure", when shooting with TTL flash. That's something I'd like to be copied to our Nikon bodies. That way the Flash will be more accurate in calculating exposure on the face of our subjects.

      Yeah, I wish the sync speed was a bit quicker too. HSS works well though in certain situations. Thanks for watching!

    The Z8 is sold as a miniature Z9. Well, my Z8 with the latest firmware update does have none of the features you describe in this video. I agree with you that Nikon has added some powerful tools to the Z9, or revived some old feature like the shutter delay (known from the D850 and other Nikons). Hope it will trickle down to the Z8 too. I can really see myself using the Capture feature.

      My guess is that they'll keep some difference between the Z9 vs Z8, but who knows. Thanks for watching!

    The Nikon N90 with MF-26 data back had 'trap' capability. It was great for some genre but I'm surprise so many are getting excited. Having it set in MF and Distance will be great for some types of images and those doing sports. But birds, how long will that last, Game cameras do a great job.

    Tried it out yesterday. Definitely 3d tracking finds and holds targets faster.
    With the manual focus I didn’t get the distance guide with a Zeiss milvus lens on.
    Does this only work with z mount lenses?

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I agree. The AF seems to be much improved. Unfortunately it seems the distance guide only works with Z glass. I just tried my Tilt-Shift F-mount lens with ftz ii and no focus scale or distance. Peaking of course works. Thanks for watching!

    Still missing: ZEBRAS IN STILLS. You would think that would be a simple add since it is already in video. Sony A1 uses this is a game changer for them. It's unclear to me why something that would be so helpful and seemingly easy to add is neglected. Perhaps Nikon will change the shutter sounds so that a bear growl will be Type B, Cat meow for Type C, and Dog barking for Type D, and Elephant call Type E. Might also mention that "Auto-Capture" is only fully operational with Z glass. Some advanced features will not be available with f-mount.

      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally not a fan of the zebras but for those that like them the it would be nice to have the choice. Thanks for watching.

      @@TomReplogle Do you find looking at the composite histogram easier? or not needed either? Many of my Sony A1 friends feel it is a very useful tool since they cam change the sensitivity of the ceiling to approximate the RAW file. Personally, I find I rarely "over exposure" my files, but it would make performing ETTR a bit quicker if that's your thing. Thanks for your comment. Personally, I'd opt to have it included as a feature you could turn on or off and adjust the sensitivity of.

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว

      I much prefer the histogram. I definitely think it should be an option though, and as you mentioned, it should be an easy addition.

      I haven't tested 3D out extensively but used it to shoot some birds the other day and it seemed to work fine. Where is it falling short for you?

      @@TomReplogle it manytimes catches the background if it is close and then struggles to focus on foreground subject...I have to invariably focus manual and show z9 that this is the subject. Only then it holds on it. If the background is far then it works fine.

    • @TomReplogle
      @TomReplogle  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I start out in another mode, acquire the subject and then switch over to 3d. Works well.
