The lid of the case would be a perfect place to put printed information like the item list or maybe a flowchart of each players turn, just need a couple of tabs in opposing corners to hold a cutout.
And it could have a little removable GM screen that would have monster rules and such! (I know it’s not really necessary, but it would be a fun addition)
Very cool. Excellent work. You might want to consider formatting your rules for an "8 page mini book". It would still be easily printable on a home printer but might fit inside your box lid.
Thanks! Wow I coincidentally also printed the rule book as an 8 page mini booklet when people ordering the physical ver of Pocket Dungeon. Really live how it looks and fits perfectly within the box 👍.
One suggestion I would put forth, is the board that you build the dungeon, would be to somehow make it snap together with another dungeon tiles. That way you can have a multiplayer game, other then just the Hero and the Dungeon Master.
such an incredible build! I especially love that the low detail of the minis means that they can easily be reconfigured to different roles to make the game more expansive with the same parts. for example, the 1x1 walls could also be blocks to push. the hero can use their roll to push a block that can attack enemies but also change the board state. some rule changes that would also be interesting: - hero can attack without the sword, but it either costs 1hp to defeat the monster (remove from play) or the monster gets to respawn at their portal. the hero gets to choose with penalty to go with. attacking with the sword removes the monster like normal. - if a monster attacks the hero, they deal 1hp of damage and returns to the monster portal. the DM gets +1 move to use as they see fit. the DM can only attack once per monster for that turn though as to avoid stunlocking the hero
Mounting tiny bits of magnet on base of each piece + the magnetic board would make it a truly portable game (& would keep pieces from getting lost) Great creation though…one more idea use the same material and cut out pieces into random shapes to create Topo features (hills, mountains, buildings; etc
I love the concept of different heros, enemy and weapons! Oh wow im just thinking of all sorts of additions to this base game. Ah man imagine having a dungeon exploring party! A healer + a warrior or something, the healer cannot attack but may heal, or "inspire/light the way" for the hero giving extra movement. If within x tiles. Monsters only able to move if even or odd but hit for double damage. Ranged weaponry but can't be used in melee. Bleed/Poison/Fire Traps and moving walls! Predesigned dungeon layouts Floors/stairwells! Oh man this is such a cool little base to riff off of! I am absolutely loving it. Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh wow thank you, I released couple other heroes since (ranged spellcaster, swift spearwielder) with different attack range pattern. Kindly checkout my other vid for the latest update on Pocket Dungeon. 🙏🏽 I always imagine having only one hero per game, but definitely love your idea of an exploring party. And also this even or odd mechanic for monster movement.
My first thought was about predesigned dungeon layouts so you can play alone - someone surely will be able to write a tool to preconfigure all possible dungeon layouts with additional rules (like every tile has to be accessible, so no closed-off-areas, no hoarding of walls, etc.) that way you can print some layouts and select them by rolling the dice.
your setup has 'infinite' variation.. for a quick/rush game, instead of an infinite variation board and a dozen+ pieces to place before playing, you could have several printed, double sided maps, allowing a playthrough of a handful ofpre-made dungeons,, perhaps using a different mechanic for difficulty such as starting area, or maybe only one or two pieces to be used as blockers or moving walls. but the pre printed double sided maps would make things much faster. instead of pegs, you'd move pieces like on a chess board. I know it's a 3d printed concept, but I'm just thinking from overall game design. I think a lot of possibilities here. good job. :-)
Hey! This idea may be an interesting lead to start thinking how to adapt Dungeon videogames for deaf people as a physical toy :D Thank you for sharing!
Love it. IDK how well it would print, but including a D8 and a D12 might help for proper randomization, especially for solo play. Alternately, some index cards with pre-generated dungeons with semi-randomized item positions in hard to reach places. Good for both first-time players and solo players looking to pull a scenario from somewhere.
I know you posted this 8 months ago, but I think you can get a perfectly randomized game with a single d4, you just have to roll it a lot. For placing on the short coordinate, roll the d4, if you get 3 or 4, add 4 to your next roll. Then the next roll determines which coordinate you're placing on. Should give you an equal chance for any of the individual 8 locations. Same thing for the long side, just roll twice to determine how many to add, before rolling the final dice.
Ooh. This is pretty cool. I haven't finished the whole video yet, but I'm getting ideas. What if you printed the board on clear plastic, then made up a bunch of drawings to put underneath the board? You could have one look like magma, another look like a forest, and so on, in order to aesthetically theme the dungeon. Just swap out the pictures whenever you want. I also think you could put a rules reference in the lid. Since I don't have a 3D printer I think I'm going to try this out with LEGO and cardboard.
for the clear plastic it would be difficult to do with filament 3d printing , but with resin 3d printing and clear resin you could do it much easier as long as you do the proper post processing methods and apply a thin coat of the clear resin after the alcohol bath and then put the piece in a curing station to fully harden the piece, the clear resin on the outside of the piece that was printed with clear resin fills the minor imperfections, leaving you with a crystal clear surface.
yeah im building stuff like this with lego to u can really create some cool things but it seems very fragile so maybe not so great for a portable "pocket dungeon" ... but if u find a solution please let me know
I can't wait to see this blow up massively. You deserve a deal with a board game company, it would look awesome in wood too! You should charge more for the file download, or don't sell it and get some kind of copyright set up before a company steals the design! Your pixel art is awesome too!
You should change the rules to For the DM, As he has to move 3 monsters he should roll the dice twice, However if he land on the same number both rolls than the moves are cut in half. Just a thought. Other than that seems pretty cool, makes me wish i was able to afford a 3d printer so i could make stuff. You should also add a Hammer or Mallot which can be used to break through 1 dungeon wall once per game allowing the hero to remove a wall. & perhaps a trap item for Mobs.
It would be nice if the stationary elements like walls had longer studs to prevent them from accidentally moving, while characters and monsters had shorter ones. For example, make it so that each of the holes is 8mm, while the studs have lengths of 4mm and 8mm
This is incredibly slick! I don't think most of the folks commenting on here understand how much thought and effort actually went into this, but you really did your homework on this one. Well done! You should start a kickstarter to try and get these made professionally - I feel like there'd be a decent market for folks who'd want something exactly like this but either don't have a printer nor want to deal with having the parts printed by a 3rd party service like Shapeways or something.
This is really cool. I love the pocket formfactor and the print-in-place box. It immediately reminded me of something from my youth in the 1980s; 'Flipsiders'. They were these pocket board games that looked like audio cassettes, but a tri-fold metal game board slid out of it, there were four magnetic game pieces in a compartment at the top, and a spring-loaded slider would spin the reels, which acted as your dice. It's a shame that nowadays something like this is rendered relatively superfluous by our ability to access digital games literally anywhere, even from our ever-present phones. 😕
Thanks for the reference, will defo check it out, I think it could help improve the design of Pocket Dungeon. And yes I agree, I feel so lucky to still experience that era as well! 😄

I just went and came back from Japan, and I looked high and low for a game like this to play with my daughter on the long flights and train rides. (We enjoy dungeon crawlers like Legend of Drizzt.) If you produced this, I'd definitely buy it.
This is freaking awesome! Brilliant idea, and gorgeous - i love the minimalist look! I assume you wanted something that anyone could print themselves, but for an official version, or a more involved build version, maybe there could be a thin metal sheet under the board, and then instead of printed dowels on the pieces, they'd be magnets. Anyway - love love love this!!
Thank you! I love the official version idea, when I build this, I always keep that in mind that it needs to be easily constructed by everyone. But yeah I can defo create an official version with more features.
It's a very cool concept and nice that it's easy for anyone to print. In saying that i think one of the most important element to a boardgame is the tactile feel of it, and how fiddly it is. With pieces this small they're not going to feel very good to handle and so the experience of the game just from a physical standpoint is going to suffer alot. My suggestions are: -Make your dowels longer and thinner, at the moment they aren't deep enough to really hold the objects, and you have enough headroom for it. -Make the wall pieces about 1/2 the height of all of the other playing pieces, as you don't want to worry about bumping them while moving. -Print with resin. Apart from the case with the print in place pieces, the other pieces will feel infinitely better printed with resin, i've printed my board game with a resin printer and even the small pieces like dice have a lot of weight to them (everything full in-fill) and they have the feeling of mahjong tiles, clacky and sturdy.
Really cool idea! I think one way to adjust to make the game more engaging through set up would be to make it a collaborative thing; something like each player goes in turns to place one item, wall, monster, etc. with basic rules in place to disallow things like completely closed off items or such. You could even have a small set of cards, or maybe one of the dice, that tells you what kind of piece you get to place. How placement of things should be limited and what the ratio of placement of items could be would need some balancing via playtesting. You could also easily expand the game with more item variety and more different monsters, as well as perhaps hazards to place. This is great because it's not only really cool on its own but it feels like it would work as a great base for adding complexity as desired by the players!
Hi thanks, I never had experience with that :D. Do people still buy and back things on gofundme or kick starter? I'm interested to know if you know about it

I saw your battleclub videos first, and now this, I am highly interested because these small games and simple rulesets would work great in my therapy office!
This is an amazing bit of kit for keeping amused on train trips and the like. I'm imagining a stupidly huge one for massive home games, and more than a few players! Modular, as well! Too cool!
Idea for an alternative gamemode: *Blind Hero* • Dungeon Master places Monsters randomly on the Dungeon (they have to be at least 2 tiles away from the Portal) • Monsters will only be able to move 1 tile, and only one can move per turn • The Hero *can't* see the board, and the DM has to explain: Which direction the Hero can go, which is the closest item, what is around them (Wall, Item or Border), the DM can't specify what Item it is until the Hero gets it • DM also has to warn when a Monster is at least 2 tiles close to the hero, and in which "direction" they're in • Direction will work like a Compass. North, South, West and East. I think for this gamemode the Player would have to hide de board using the game's case, so you would play it sideways, West is the direction where the Entrance is placed and East is the direction where the Portal is placed. Diagonals would be Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest.
I actually designed a game exactly like this! I named it after some Greek dude, I don’t remember but it’s buried somewhere in my basement. I’ll take a look for it!
Cool concept and many great suggestions in the comments. Just a random idea, to possibly give the game a little more depth in strategy, you could have the speed slider set at -1|0|+1|+2 then you could introduce traps pieces which have you lose speed. In order to trigger this (otherwise the hero player would be avoiding them 99% of the time) you could also introduce the "facing" action for the hero piece and relative to that a "push" dynamic for the mobs attack instead of the "return to base" approach. For the traps placement, other than placing them randomly at beginning, you could also have the mobs able to spend action to "move" o "lay" them.
Hi there, I really like those ideas especially turning the speed slider for modifier and introducing traps. Let me try those in my next playtest. Many thanks!
You could also possibly take this further by making the inside of the case also have a 1-2 tier folding "interior shelf" that can be used to simulate extra floors. Same size as the interior space of the case with floor doles already integrated as the shelves. Have the hinges fold out towards the other side where the lid isn't and then you can leave the extra floor you don't wanna use in play folded on top of each other or have it full folded. This will allow even more game pieces (walls, tokens, etc) while also creating more variation in the maze design and goal destination. This being a starting position that starts you from top floor and have you maneuver down or from bottom floor to the upper . Also can allow extra movement potential , such as a portal piece that goes to a color coded sister piece.
you could add some ramdoness to items and weapons by adding two stacks of cards. when you pick a weapon piece you draw from the weapon deck, it may give you a powerful sword, or a cursed one. if you pick an item you draw from the item deck, maybe it is a healing item, maybe a trap for the monsters, maybe its a fruit
Great job! I love the concept, the size and the "tactility". I suspect that with right adjustments this game also could be played with visually impaired people. Do experiment with the actions / modes / goals in the game. Currently it feels like there's little decision making for the players in the game: one rolls the dice and goes for the closest weapon/potion/monster. Give your players more dilemmas, some tactical tools to trick the opponent, less chance-more-skill. Also, maybe adding cooperative mode, different skills/tactics for monsters, different heroes, use the lid for something? Ah, this is amazing, the possibilities are endless. Wish you all the luck with this awesome project 👍
Maybe a way to combine two "Pocket Dungeons" and play with a hidden movement? Like until there's a line of sight - player doesn't see the monsters. Again, cool project that allows a lot of flexibility :D
I love how simple this is. You should add tweezers though I would add "expansions" that would make it more complicated, but only focus on the main game. Use expansions as a "would be nice to think about later" AI Cards, for solo play. Cycle through 4 cards that would prioritize actions. Treadmill, the green tile is in two parts so when the hero crosses over half way the map scrolls down and new land is generated. Boxes and doors, boxes can slide and doors can be picked or unlocked.
Hi there, thanks for the input really appreciate it. I created a solo gameplay where we use series of 3 dice to determine the monster actions, kindly check out the vid below and let me know what you think :) th-cam.com/video/LSBtuZCSgkI/w-d-xo.html
While watching the video, I observed your issue with the 1x1 pieces (minis, items, and walls) would spin because you have chosen to make the pegs rounded. Might I suggest using square pegs and holes instead? The game has players using orthogonal movement anyways, so round peg holes seem unneeded.
I would try some tweaks to the rules: * Collecting an item ends movement on that square. Any additional movement remaining is forgotten. * To slay a monster you must land precisely on it by using all of your movement from your dice roll and optionally any number of bonus moves from your slider. (Bonus moves are now also removed from your slider when used.) * Slaying a monster earns +1 HP or +1 Bonus Moves; player's choice.
Interesting. Id make it open the other way so you can have an index card in the opened cover that you can write on. This would also be good for potential expansion/information cards for scenarios or "random encounters".
Just reading the comments from people posting their comments make the Pocket Dungeons more interesting. Like making the background clear and having a drawing printed paper with different landscapes on multiple papers of the same size but changed landscapes would be nice and also magnetic pieces so those small pieces won't get lost. Also making the landscapes give each individual monsters or characters special abilities or disabilities would be nice and adding an extra tile on the left side with maybe like rotating wall tiles that rotate with another dice. The possibilities are endless.
This is honestly such a cool idea! :O I'd love something like this, I'm planning to get a printer soon so this is going to definitely be one of the first things I pick up to try out. :D
The lid of the case would be a perfect place to put printed information like the item list or maybe a flowchart of each players turn, just need a couple of tabs in opposing corners to hold a cutout.

• Dungeon Master places Monsters randomly on the Dungeon (they have to be at least 2 tiles away from the Portal)
• Monsters will only be able to move 1 tile, and only one can move per turn
• The Hero *can't* see the board, and the DM has to explain: Which direction the Hero can go, which is the closest item, what is around them (Wall, Item or Border), the DM can't specify what Item it is until the Hero gets it
• DM also has to warn when a Monster is at least 2 tiles close to the hero, and in which "direction" they're in
• Direction will work like a Compass.
Looks like pocket Polly and d&d had a baby lmao!!
I've never seen something quite like this. Super cool
Wow love this idea, so much potential and I’m really excited for the expansion!
this is amazing I've always been looking for a pocket RPG game!
Thankss :)
This is absolutely brilliant!
looks very cool! I very wanted to try something with the same idea, glad to know that such a game was made already!
The box itself is cool! The idea of the game is even cooler! I love this!
3D printed board games is a thing didn't know I needed until now
Wonderful Idea! Congratulations!!
Super cool! Great work!
This is such a clever and unique game, I would love to see this go into production
This is absolutely beautiful! Great work!!
Thank you for sharing this project you clearly put a lot of effort into. It kind of seemed like you were anxious about sharing but you did a good job!
you could add some ramdoness to items and weapons by adding two stacks of cards.
when you pick a weapon piece you draw from the weapon deck, it may give you a powerful sword, or a cursed one.
if you pick an item you draw from the item deck, maybe it is a healing item, maybe a trap for the monsters, maybe its a fruit
I love the minimalist design.
Neat Christmas gift. I hope you pair up with a manufacturer and patent and make some to sell :)
Great for camping or travel.
I love how simple this is. You should add tweezers though
I would add "expansions" that would make it more complicated, but only focus on the main game. Use expansions as a "would be nice to think about later"
AI Cards, for solo play.
I created a solo gameplay where we use series of 3 dice to determine the monster actions, kindly check out the vid below and let me know what you think :)

Great idea and implementation. and nice video
Dude. This is absolutely amazing. What a great concept. :)
Thank you!
dude this is so cool, great work!
This is such a cool concept, you could have a whole line of different settings!
While watching the video, I observed your issue with the 1x1 pieces (minis, items, and walls) would spin because you have chosen to make the pegs rounded. Might I suggest using square pegs and holes instead? The game has players using orthogonal movement anyways, so round peg holes seem unneeded.
Really fucking cool stuff man, I love miniaturized stuff!
Really cool. It’s nice to see your passion
Congratulations on a great design. I have just purchased it.
cant wait to see it expanded, this looks awesome
Wow! Amazing Project!! Super cool!
Great idea! Is there a PDF of just the rules that people can get their hands on?
This game looks really fun! Thanks for showing it.
This is a really great project and board game.
Feels a lot like something I'd make out of Lego pieces.
Well done! I love this!
Thank you!
looks like great fun! glad it was made
such a great project!! subscribed!
Hey nice job on this man :D it's pretty rad!
I’m going to have to consider getting this for a travel game!
So good! Absolutely love this... Great job!!! Hopefully I can figure out how to talk my printer into printing something other than spaghetti...
Ahah thanks and good luck! 👍
I would try some tweaks to the rules:
* Collecting an item ends movement on that square. Any additional movement remaining is forgotten.
* To slay a monster you must land precisely on it by using all of your movement from your dice roll and optionally any number of bonus moves from your slider. (Bonus moves are now also removed from your slider when used.)
* Slaying a monster earns +1 HP or +1 Bonus Moves; player's choice.
Interesting.
Id make it open the other way so you can have an index card in the opened cover that you can write on. This would also be good for potential expansion/information cards for scenarios or "random encounters".
this is a great idea. both for mobile implementation and a physical game you can carry with you.
this is really cool, going to print it
This looks like so much fun, i love it
Love it! I wonder if it would be possible to add some tiny magnets to make everything feel a bit more snappy.
Awesome concept, really intrigued!
great little idea. tiny tiny dice go great with this
Cool idea. I feel if it contained more modular floor pieces and the associated little bits it'd work even better.
Wow! Amazing work! I wish I could play such one 😊
Wow this is very impressive!!!
Use the lid for another game board and double the dungeon size
Suprised you arent selling prints of this, I would 100% cop one
This is honestly such a cool idea! :O
I'd love something like this, I'm planning to get a printer soon so this is going to definitely be one of the first things I pick up to try out. :D
Really awesome. I wouldn't mind buying something like that.
Pretty cool. Great build
This is such a freaking Kool idea! I have so many thoughts and opinions on it! Are you still working on it??
Got recommended, amazing !!
That's pretty neat. Would be cool to do in wood also!
Great concept quick and easy game
like it!
I LOVE THIS!!!!!
This is just really dope
Looks good I’ll try it out.
Thanks! 🙏🏽 let me know what you think and hope you like it
could use stairs n trapdoor blocks
and how about making it fit a lego bord
It might be fun to get a travel Battleship game (maybe from a thrift store or Yard Sale) and modify it to be a dungeon crawler.
