@@Therealchuckbailey i swear you and i are in the same band as far as setlists 😂😂 I always know when youre playing even if im not looking based on the song choice.
This is easily the best review video ive ever seen. Even just hearing a bass in a mix is rare, let alone all the different genres, playing styles, eq and pickup settings, varying balance between song and bass, amps etc. Major props for all the effort. Especially appreciate it since I'm thinking bout getting a spector but so much of the content for these basses is heavy rock / metal orientated
Yeah, slap is somewhat rare on our channel; couple of our featured guys are good at it and we let them do their thing, but the rest of us just don't much.
@@TheBassChannel I like your channel best because it has a mixture of tones and techniques, and other than Nate Navarro, nobody else does such well-rounded reviews!
Thank you **so much** for putting flatwounds on the PJ ! I also wanted to hear what it sounds like with those sweet EMG pickups, and I think the combination is actually pretty good! Nice basses - I can't say I'm in love with the looks (that red though...) and the preamp leaves me indifferent, but the construction seems nice and the they offer good, versatile sounds.
I recently picked up a 4-string CST model Spector and it's one of the best feeling and sounding basses I've played. They really nailed it w/ the EMG-X pickups and Darkglass preamp combo!
I've got a 4-string 2011 Spector LX-35 with the EMG DC's and it's my favorite bass of all the basses I've owned and played. It has the old Tone-pump which I love. Handles basically any genre and that signature Spector sound ALWAYS cuts through the mix.
I use flats on some of my Spectors. Flats have more versatility than they're given credit for It's all a matter of technique, amplification, EQ, etc. On a Spector, those lively EMGs and active EQ can make flats sound less anemic or mellow than they would in a passive Jazz bass, for example. And they minimize that clankiness you can get with the treble control all the way up.
Moved to flats when started playing again after a (very) long intermission. They're awesome and flexible. Yes, maybe slightly less "zing" than roundwounds, but that's easy to compensate for. I use them on my 1997 Ibanez ATK 5 string, they sound great to me and I can get all the aggressive sounds I need from them.
Spector is known for the neck thru sustain and thump . The Dark Glass ??? Not my preferred choice . I have a mix of USA and EURO and often the EURO has better QC. This is a good demonstration and shows the basses in their natural light.
I'd like to say that the rock and metal examples sound like the treble is turned all the down (sounds great for Boyz II Men). The new preamp treble is at 1kHz which should be high mid territory. Much of Spectors character comes from boosting the treble. Ian Allison demo's this well in Spectors latest video. I follow you guys in Vegas and you host my favorite channel with the best detailed and most thorough gear demo's.
They both sound great! I tried some Ernie Ball cobalt flats on my Spector LX and while they sounded very good I still preferred my go to strings of choice ( DR Black Beauties )
Thanks for an open and honest review. Of both basses. Appreciate it! I like to play many genres of music so I am undecided to what one I would choose if I had to choose one. I am curious as to how the dimension HP stacks up against one of these new basses. I know different basses on so many levels. Just curious if you bought a dimension HP are you still getting that specter experience without spending $1300 more for an LX or CTS? I am used to playing MS and standard basses what is your opinion on this? Maybe you can do a video on the pulse 2-dimension HP. Comparing it against the new Spector. Would love to onow what you think.
Flats on a Spector: I use Ernie Ball Cobalt flats on my NS Pulse 5. They sound very much like round wounds, but no string noise when I change positions. Side note - I upgraded the preamp from the tonepump jr to the euro tonepump. I just couldn't deal with the ridiculously loud output volume. Speaking of - is the output of the new preamp the same as the tonepump series? Is there a trim pot to adjust the output?
should have a switch to select 18V or 9V. ,i have a 9V. on one carvin bass and a 18V on the other carvin bass. ,often wonder about switching 9V to 18V.

I bet D'Addario halfrounds would sound pretty great on that CST.
Both are nice but i prefer the glassy ping in the top end of the PJ here.
