- The UK Final was held on March 31st at the Royal Albert Hall in London, hosted by Terry Wogan. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 14 regional juries.
Co-Co previously came 2nd in the 1976 UK Final. At the ESC they were 11th.
Wow - these contenders were great - Labbi Siffre!
Jacquie Sullivan should have won with the wonderful "Moments". It was covered a year later by Samanatha Sang for her LP "From Dance to Love".
Cheryl Baker of course was to have a second, and ultimately more successful shot at it in 1981 with Bucks Fizz!
Wish I could find more info on Midnight. I know Jimmy Chambers is part of Londonbeat, but the other two? Kenny Lynch was such a genius.
Don’t Bother To Knock deserved to win. Bad Old Days was a fantastic track, and Cheryl Baker is one of the finest winners of Eurovision, but the UK had one hell of a chance to win 1978 with those three.
One glance would have done better than bad old days
sung by kofi ( Carol Simms, ) stellina mccarthy, sally kamara and puti kopra
the song written by wayne bickerton and wayne tonny waddington
I like Midnight and Lonely Nights
door in my face was the best song imho :D
FlavioGirl it was shit
@@holydiver73 , I think that's wonderful. So catchy and funny.
@@cristinaconterogarrido6363 It's a fun and catchy song, but would have done terribly in Paris. Way ahead of its time (for Eurovision).
Worth noting is that the first song ‘Shine it on’ was written by Bill Martin and Phil Coulter. They had written both Puppet on a String which Sandy Shaw sang and won in the 1967 Eurovision and Congratulations which Cliff Richard sang in the 1968 Eurovision and was totally robbed.
Song No 1: Shine It On performed by Christian
Song No 2: Oh No, Look What You've Done performed by Brown Sugar
Song No 3: Door In My Face performed by The Fruit Eating Bears
Song No 4: Moments performed by Jacquie Sullivan
Song No 5: Too Much In Love performed by Sunshine
Song No 6: Lonely Nights performed by Ronnie France
Song No 7: One Glance performed by The Jarvis Brothers
Song No 8: The Bad Old Days performed by Co-Co
Song No 9: We Got It Bad performed by Bob James
Song No 10: Don't Bother To Knock performed by Midnight
Song No 11: Don't Let Me Stand In Your Way performed by Babe Rainbow
Song No 12: Solid Love performed by Labi Siffre
Paul Curtis often had multiple songs in uk finals (I think he had 7/8 one year).
He wrote the UK entries in 1975, 1978, 1990 and 1991.
A shame his wife sings her entry like a drunk girl on a Saturday night out.
" One Glance" actually stands up quite well as a song from a 70s UK final.
Coco performed better here than in Paris, and the make up on the men is toned down more here. Lead male looked like a clown in Paris
No voting. For goodness' sake..
Cheryl Baker here in Coco before her more successful career with Bucks Fizz.
Little known fact:
" Making Your Mind Up" was originally offered to Dollar as a Eurovision song, but they turned it down, so Bucks Fizz was specially created.
One of the men in Bucks Fizz was supposed to be the guy from Bardot (Stephen Nolan)who represented the UK in 92.
Ironically David Van Day ended up as part of Bobby G's version of Bucks Fizz after the break up.
My ranking: 1 > Don't bother to knock, 2 > One glance, 3 > Too much in love, 4 > Don't let me stand in your way, 5 > Solid love, 6 > Moments, 7 > Shine it on, 8 > We got it bad, 9 > The bad old days, 10 > Door in my face, 11 > Lonely nights, 12 > Oh no, look what you've done. The eventual winner was a very bad choice for the UK and it's been downhill almost ever since.
Downhill since then...we won in 1981 and 1997 and had several top 5 placing
Where are the strong British entries nowadays..?
The good old Eurovision times...
Midnight should have won CoCo was too cheesy no wonder it did so badly in the contest
Coco won fairly, their placing at Eurovision was horrible, but they could improve on the terrible outfits!
