I called in there one lunchtime for a quiet couple of pints. @mcstyle24 precisely. Sam smiths pubs are a haven from constant stimulation. Harking to a time (and mentality) of living in the moment and not being bombarded with distractions. Or, to put a less pretentious way, go for a quiet pint lmao

Maybe the conversation is better online or you can find people and topics more on his wave length instead of listening to his Dad bore on about putting the world right with outdated views and reference points. Why would you accept what you are born into through no choice of your own as the 'go to' option when you can easily find someone else to talk to in seconds online.
Sad old men from deacdes ago, throwing their weight around to feel self-important, because they can't cope with change and modern life. Still a chain pub at the end of the day they just need a Time Machine. Plus it's cheap for a reason...
You are exactly the type of cocky little gobshite that I wouldn't want anywhere near me in a pub. If I had a pub and you walked in, I would only serve you shandy, and if you complained about it in any way I'd remove you.
I hate their pubs . Full of miserable old bastards. Got a death stare answering my phone in a pub in Stockport. No wonder Sam's smiths pubs are empty or closing. Avoid if you're feeling low. Cheap shite beer anyway.
There’s a couple of these in Teesside/Middlesbrough. Same rules, best pubs you will ever visit, soon as a phone is pulled out you were told to put it away as though you were in school. We’d stay in there all day til’ closing. Sammy Smiths all day 1.80 a pint and heavy stuff. We would make conversation to everyone we’d get the chance to speak with. Card games the lot. All we needed was a pool table and darts and we were sound. Was possibly the only chance we’d ever get to feel what the past was like. Our local has closed down now, I remember the family who owned it saying they can’t wait til’ Sammy passes so they could run it like normal, there was no cameras in there but they were always paranoid he might pop in one day, even though the chances were extremely slim considering there was chains allover the country. Good times.
It's a brilliant concept👍🏻. Communication lost its art form. All pubs should enforce this law. I'm in the states now..NYC and it's all I see..heads down in their mobile's and tablets, no one is speaking to each other...smh..it's sad man.

All that pub would require to go back to the day, smoking. I'm a non-smoker, but I prefer smelling smoke to b.o., stale beer and FARTS.
B.o 🤣
Is that in Low Moor?
Brilliant brilliant.
Love the videos mate, been watching since the hull video came up in my shorts. Big fan of old school pubs and good guinness, surprisingly there's an art to it
I understand the concept and its a good idea, because nowadays people barely speak face to face....(Anti)social media is stopping people from communicating with each other. We're slaves to our phones and it's alienating people from humanity!
Yup....so many people spend hours scrolling through tat
Well done to the landlord. Phones and digital technology is killing us 👏👏👏😊
Taddys a decent pint
Never had it....probs should of got that
I visited Peterborough a couple of years and the Samuel Smith pub there also banned use of phones and had no music.
You like it?
@@honestplaces Yes. It is a strange feeling in this day and age to have to keep your phone in your pocket, and it wasn't the busiest pub in the town, but it is nice to be able to find a pub where you can have a chat without be drowned out by loud music or some raucas rubbish being played on some inconsiderate punter's phone. I think the beer was reasonably priced too.
Please put kids on the bans too! You said it just as I sent it 😂😂😂
🤣 proper pub without screaming kids
@@honestplaceslolz yeah just full of moaning old people like real pub should be 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
What for mate? A pub’s a community place
Best times to go is teatime. My local 🤣👍 mark is a lovely landlord 👍
Knows his stuff 👍🍺
was a pub in Guildford in 90s no mobiles
There's a Samuel Smith's pub in my home town, same policies. It used to be well cheap back in the day, not so much now. It says something, maybe on the brewery website, at trying to bring back the social standards of Victorian Britain.
Best of all great beer at a working mans price.
The beer was decent
"£2:20 a pint, you can't argue" - "You haven't tasted it yet!" :-) Brilliant
Humphrey smith (the brewery owner) inforces his new rules out of all proportion and likes unexpected visits to catch out managers who he sacks on a wim
Yeh, bang out of order that
Your channel is great ....I like visit in places just Luke yerself..I always look on your channel to see where you visitin.....all the best mate❤
Good excuse for when the fellas are late home - reasonably priced too
Never thought of that 🤣
same in frodsham golden lion alpine larger strong very cheap
A great idea , doesn’t mean it will gather traction though
True.....enjoy it while it lasts
Their Pure Brew Lager is one of my favourite beers on earth.. Bloody terrific..
Whenever i'm in my nearest city [Bristol] I always try to go there. Cheap beer. They have nice cubicles. And the old landlord there was a legend. I'd go in, and ask for a few tokens for the pool table. And he''d go "don't worry mate... take a handful" one time he did this and i said "oh...oh no!" because he knew as well as I did. I'd be there the next 3 hours, when I only wanted to go in for an hour and a half..
I called in there one lunchtime for a quiet couple of pints. I was sat looking at my holiday photos on my phone when the bar girl came over to me and pointed to a sign on the wall, 'no mobile phones, conversation is king' and then she disappeared again.
I was the only person in the place other than her, I drank my pint and put the empty glass on the bar, she said "same again?". I just shook my and walked out.
You lost.
You came to the pub to have a pint, not dossing on your phone like a little child. Just bad enough as it is, phones are everywhere. Your lost but I respect you for bringing your empty glass back to the bar. Not all people do that.
@mcstyle24 precisely. Sam smiths pubs are a haven from constant stimulation. Harking to a time (and mentality) of living in the moment and not being bombarded with distractions.
Or, to put a less pretentious way, go for a quiet pint lmao
@@mcstyle24 why is looking at my holiday pictures dossing on my phone. I was the only customer in the place, what should I have done? Stared off into empty space? Or maybe start mumbling to myself?
@@sparerib
Why even you want to look at the phone meanwhile enjoying your pint? How about engage a conversation at the bar with the worker or reading a book or newspaper instead, or playing board games yourself, Playing darts or pool table. Who the hell wants to sit with a smartphone by themselves, must be so depressing. You could do that at home or at work, not in the pub.
I wonder How would you ever cope if that was in the 90s before smartphones came along.
Just found this channel and am loving it, especially the ruff and moody boozer episodes 😄👍
Sam Smiths is great stuff. Humphrey Smith might be a bit of an oddball but no one's forced to drink in his pubs.
That is true 👍
he a cruel man to his landlords
@@henryclarke5363Noone is forced to ask him for a job in the first place.
they dont know what hes like when they take it@@VictheSecret
A bit of an oddball…that’s putting it mildly…
Best pub in Yorkshire. Full of characters. Love the place. Shame I missed most of it and didn't get on the film til last few seconds 😂😂. Mark the landlord owes me a pint for saying hes a top lad
If Humphrey Smith sees this then the landlord could well lose his job.
Why?He wasn't to know been filmed.
I doubt humphrey smith goes on youtube that much. I'd be surprised if he own a telly lmao
@@markharrison8216 That won't bother him believe me!
Bosh! That will nicely 👌 👍
This is the trouble we have forgotten how to talk, we went to pubs to discuss things, even my son can't hold a conversation to busy on computers
Bradford is west yorks mate!
Amazed to see the old hometown pop up on my youtube feed, looks like a lovely old school boozer too..
Whatever, don't let us grumpy old men stop you paying £6 a pint elsewhere @Cashback13.
Best thing I seen once : in Spoons , Husband & Wife sat down together, Saturday night and pulled out an iPad each, pure bliss ❤❤
Sam Smith make the worst Beer in the country .. 2.20 wasted
Good for dole eds like me 🤣
Nice mild and bitter
I hate their pubs . Full of miserable old bastards. Got a death stare answering my phone in a pub in Stockport. No wonder Sam's smiths pubs are empty or closing. Avoid if you're feeling low. Cheap shite beer anyway.
in your opinion, its not a fact just because you said it
@@spongebobsquaretits 🤣
Good times.
Nice little bar 👍🏴🇬🇧
It really was 👍🍺
It's a brilliant concept👍🏻. Communication lost its art form. All pubs should enforce this law. I'm in the states now..NYC and it's all I see..heads down in their mobile's and tablets, no one is speaking to each other...smh..it's sad man.
There's one in York, kings arms down river, they're really strict on it
I went to a pub like this once. It was a bunch of middle aged men sitting by themselves. No one was talking to each other, it was probably the most depressing pub I've ever been to lol.
Not been in a Samuel smith pub in years, started with the music and tv licence this was 15yrs ago, find it very hard not to use my phone inside.
The temptation is hard
Brilliant pub❤
100%

Duncan in Leeds does aswell.
Best people and characters I’ve ever met in my life has been in Pubs.. Mostly dives n shitholes .. proper people in those places
I remember buying kegs from a brewery at 70p a pint , sold at a local pub for £2.50 was in the late 1980's
Excellent content mate
Just ignore the negative comments
👍👍👍👍👍
Good lad !
Its nice to see the younger men appreciate old pubs and decent beer. 👍
👍
Good vlog shame the dark mild wasn't on been to a few sams pubs but there are very few customers every time we went 🍻
Cheers pal....yeh that mild is nice
The cricket club in my village has Taddy Lager. Have 3 of them and you're absolutely leathered. Cracking lager.
Init mate 🤣
The definition of a quiet pint. Theres a few near me but ive not been in any since the no swearing/mobile ban came into effect. And always a cheap pint
Update: went to one near me for a few quiet pints after work. The place itself is a dive ngl but there were 1 or 2 nice old fellas willing to have a chat and while they observed the rule on no tv/music and mobiles, they didn't on the swearing lmao.
But again, it's in a former pit village so I guess some things are to be expected.
That’s low moor in Bradford, the train station is directly over the road from that pub all you had to do was turn right 😂
Well done 👍
A proper pub, pubs like these are few and far between nowadays. great video
They really are! Cheers pal 👍
