PERFECT !!! :-) This is ideal for oldtimer with cassette radio - music never dies. I think in 10-15 years kids do not know what a "cassette" is. Greetings from germany
That's underestimation. If you show em enough of the last, their curious minds will stretch beyond such wonders. Just as the many young retro game collectors.
Charger module contains TP4056 chip. In this modules it is configured for 1A charging current. It is too much for tiny 150mAh battery. You should replace 1k2 resistor (1A current) to 4k7 resistor =250mA charging current.
The actual cassette adapters have a connecting gear so both spools turn, because some cassette decks, especially the electronically operated ones, have a protection mechanism that keeps them from working if it doesn't detect that the feeding spool is turning, rendering this DIY project incompatible with those decks.
Отлично!)) Как насчёт генерации в кассете зарядного напряжения для аккумулятора за счёт вращения колесиками катушек? --- Great!)) How about the generation in the cassette of the charging voltage for the battery due to the rotation of the wheels of the coils?
Not sure if it's possible, but instead of adding a charge port, you might be able to put a little motor inside the cassette so the deck spins it when you press play. This way it's completely self powered :)
This would be a brilliant idea! I will see if there's a small enough dynamo generator that would work. Edit: really dont think this will work. Tiny dynamos aint a thing
Second wheel should spin with another one because most cassette players will stop automatically because it will think that tape is tangled up. And also that head needs fine tuning if you want to get better quality sound (If your cassette player is stereo then one channel may be louder). But otherwise good job!
there are many types of autostop system in cassette players. In this one there's very simple autostop which works as tape tension in the end of cassette playback pushes a small lever near the main playback head. And as far as there's no tape in this adapter, there's nothing to be pushed for engaging the autostop system in this primitive boombox. That's why autostop doesn't do its job in this video.

Sometimes, I watch your work and wince at how rough-and-ready it is. But by the end you have created something workable and beautiful (well, reasonably so) at the minimum cost. I doff my hat.
I just made one myself, following this video. I didn't know the magnetic head could be used to emit a signal, apart from reading it from a tape. And it sounds amazing in my Sharp 9494 boombox. I was frustrated when trying to upgrade many sharp boomboxes that does not have line in option. this has just solved my problem, thanks a lot for sharing!!!
>I didn't know the magnetic head could be used to emit a signal How else do you think the tape recording works? It's literally the same head, just with the eraser head (electric magnet in good decks, permanent magnet in crappy ones) sitting before it, which demagnetizes the tape before it puts the new signal in.
Very good sir. Very careful cutting away of certain parts of the cassette shell and overall very clean professional looking finish. Only one issue I can think of with this. Not all cassette players will like this cassette as they expect the other reel to be turning and will stop if this does not happen. I understand the design complications to solve this problem are not simple but what you have done is pretty impressive and it does work!! Well done! :)
How are you avoiding the auto-top mechanism since the second role is not spinning? Many tape players are monitoring the donor wheel to avoid breacking the tape.
Good work. A little note: Some auto reversing mechanisms require both reels to spin or they go into endless reversing loop. So for such mechanisms, you may need to find a way to connect two reels so that they spin together.
Cassette head preamplifier is deemphasizer (NAB, gain rolls off on higher frequency). So this adapter needs preemphasizer to compensate. Good job, dude. Cheers from Indonesia
I did something similar with an 8-Track cartridge a few years ago. The neat thing about 8-track, though, is you don't need batteries to make the Bluetooth module work. In an 8-Track player, there are a set of contacts in the player that are used to 'sense' the metal foil on the tape to cause the mechanism to change programs. You need to step the voltage down for use with most Bluetooth modules, but it works quite well. You also need to adjust the head in the tape cartridge just right, and have the player set for a particular program as well.
@@brapcast I'm sorry, I don't have any photos, and the adapter I built got sold with the console stereo I built it for. Basically, I gutted an old 8-Track head cleaner cartridge, hot-glued a Bluetooth module inside, and wired the output to the tape head from an old busted open-reel deck, similar to the way he does in the video. I used an old open-reel tape head because the audio tracks are wider and it's easier to align with the player's head. My BT module was built for 12V so I didn't need to step down the power, but most modules are for 5V, and to run one of those you'll need a voltage regulator. I improvised a set of contacts inside the tape cartridge to engage the sensor prongs on the 8-Track player and used those to provide the 12V. I strongly suggest you build a bridge rectifier into the circuit if you build one of these, because the polarity of those sensor prongs can vary depending on the player's manufacturer. A bridge rectifier ensures you won't get the wrong polarity at your electronics. The tape head was the hardest part of this - you have to carefully align it with the player's tape head, and that's a lot of trial and error. I built a sliding 'sled' to mount the tape head in with a piece of foam rubber behind it for tension. I 'shimmed' the tape head via trial and error until I got it to work, then epoxied the head in position on the sled. The sled still moves in and out to engage the player head, but it cannot be adjusted vertically. And it's important that you DO NOT CHANGE PROGRAMS while that cartridge is in the player, because that'll cause the tape heads to grind together - NOT GOOD. If I had to do this again, I'd simply build a second set of contacts for audio into the tape deck and put a corresponding set on the cartridge. It means the cartridge can only be used in that particular tape player, though. If done correctly, it shouldn't interfere with regular cartridges. Or, I could simply cheat, and tape into the amplifier's inputs to add a normal Bluetooth module.
where can I get that bluetooth parts ?... battery.. bt module.. Besides in my retro cassette system.. the buttons are digital not mechanical.. So.. when deck detects that theres in not spinning the other gear .. it stop instantly.. so.. how can I apply this metod in my case
If you have this technology being built to be sold at Wal-Mart you will become a millionaires for sure because most old cars still running around with cassette.
Too late. You can buy these things right now for $30-50. And considering you an buy an entire 'mechless' car stereo sporting Bluetooth, SD and USB ports, and a wired 'aux-in' port now for about that same price.....
How is it possible.? You planted the cassette player head into the cassette housing with all other equipment needed.. but the job of the player head is to read magnetic tape, how will it send signal from one head to another..
That cassete player head convert electric pulse into eletromagnet which the head in the radio can read.this tech is already commonly used in 3.5mm aux jack to tape adapter
Why do people keep yelling this is fake?do you never use a 3.5mm jack to cassette tape adapter before?this is the same principle, but with bluetooth module as input.
Awesome idea, even tho it already existed before. But how exactly did you bypass the tape protection mechanism? scince usually the playbackdevice of the cassette should stop when both ends of the cassette arent spinning (atleast in higher end devices like ur Sony CFS-1110S)
Very nicely done. One question though. In some of the cassette players, The playing gets stopped if one of two wheels stops rotating. In video i can see that first wheel is stationary. I think you should keep them both running, may be by connecting them by some means.
I read the comments to see if anyone had pointed this out. In most commercial tape deck adapters, this problem is solved by having the two reels connected by gears.
