    Charger module contains TP4056 chip. In this modules it is configured for 1A charging current. It is too much for tiny 150mAh battery. You should replace 1k2 resistor (1A current) to 4k7 resistor =250mA charging current.

    Not sure if it's possible, but instead of adding a charge port, you might be able to put a little motor inside the cassette so the deck spins it when you press play. This way it's completely self powered :)

    Second wheel should spin with another one because most cassette players will stop automatically because it will think that tape is tangled up. And also that head needs fine tuning if you want to get better quality sound (If your cassette player is stereo then one channel may be louder). But otherwise good job!

    • @romanserdyuk9965
      @romanserdyuk9965 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      there are many types of autostop system in cassette players. In this one there's very simple autostop which works as tape tension in the end of cassette playback pushes a small lever near the main playback head. And as far as there's no tape in this adapter, there's nothing to be pushed for engaging the autostop system in this primitive boombox. That's why autostop doesn't do its job in this video.

    The actual cassette adapters have a connecting gear so both spools turn, because some cassette decks, especially the electronically operated ones, have a protection mechanism that keeps them from working if it doesn't detect that the feeding spool is turning, rendering this DIY project incompatible with those decks.

    I did something similar with an 8-Track cartridge a few years ago. The neat thing about 8-track, though, is you don't need batteries to make the Bluetooth module work. In an 8-Track player, there are a set of contacts in the player that are used to 'sense' the metal foil on the tape to cause the mechanism to change programs. You need to step the voltage down for use with most Bluetooth modules, but it works quite well. You also need to adjust the head in the tape cartridge just right, and have the player set for a particular program as well.

    • @brapcast
      @brapcast 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have any reference/photos you could send me? This is exactly what i am trying to do!

    • @xaenon
      @xaenon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brapcast I'm sorry, I don't have any photos, and the adapter I built got sold with the console stereo I built it for.
      Basically, I gutted an old 8-Track head cleaner cartridge, hot-glued a Bluetooth module inside, and wired the output to the tape head from an old busted open-reel deck, similar to the way he does in the video. I used an old open-reel tape head because the audio tracks are wider and it's easier to align with the player's head.
      My BT module was built for 12V so I didn't need to step down the power, but most modules are for 5V, and to run one of those you'll need a voltage regulator.
      I improvised a set of contacts inside the tape cartridge to engage the sensor prongs on the 8-Track player and used those to provide the 12V. I strongly suggest you build a bridge rectifier into the circuit if you build one of these, because the polarity of those sensor prongs can vary depending on the player's manufacturer. A bridge rectifier ensures you won't get the wrong polarity at your electronics.
      The tape head was the hardest part of this - you have to carefully align it with the player's tape head, and that's a lot of trial and error. I built a sliding 'sled' to mount the tape head in with a piece of foam rubber behind it for tension. I 'shimmed' the tape head via trial and error until I got it to work, then epoxied the head in position on the sled. The sled still moves in and out to engage the player head, but it cannot be adjusted vertically.
      And it's important that you DO NOT CHANGE PROGRAMS while that cartridge is in the player, because that'll cause the tape heads to grind together - NOT GOOD.
      If I had to do this again, I'd simply build a second set of contacts for audio into the tape deck and put a corresponding set on the cartridge. It means the cartridge can only be used in that particular tape player, though. If done correctly, it shouldn't interfere with regular cartridges.
      Or, I could simply cheat, and tape into the amplifier's inputs to add a normal Bluetooth module.

  • @emvizet

    It will work not with all tape players. Many tape recorders/players have tape end/jam/break sensors based on roller rotation control. If one roller stops tape recorder/player stop playing and power off the tape driver and amplifier. Tape adapters usually have elastic ring or gears between rollers provide both rollers rotation.

      >I didn't know the magnetic head could be used to emit a signal
      How else do you think the tape recording works? It's literally the same head, just with the eraser head (electric magnet in good decks, permanent magnet in crappy ones) sitting before it, which demagnetizes the tape before it puts the new signal in.

    One question though. In some of the cassette players, The playing gets stopped if one of two wheels stops rotating. In video i can see that first wheel is stationary.

    Very good sir. Very careful cutting away of certain parts of the cassette shell and overall very clean professional looking finish. Only one issue I can think of with this. Not all cassette players will like this cassette as they expect the other reel to be turning and will stop if this does not happen. I understand the design complications to solve this problem are not simple but what you have done is pretty impressive and it does work!! Well done! :)

    This will not work on all cassette players specially those with logical taype control system. Most highend dedicated cassette players and most car cassette players made after 1997 will not work with this convertor and will reject adapter as soon as inserted. Because two pulleys are free. Needs to add some wheel gears to turn both two pulleys proportionally together, same as when there is a cassette tape in the deck or player. If you look at the commercially made one, you will see gears and capstan rolling rubber wheel ( pinch roller) in the cassette adapter.

    Привет, мне идея понравилась, самое главное никаких операций с магнитолой. Я предложу модернизацию, установить кольцевую резинку на колесики (отдающий - принимающий) некоторые музыкальные центры имеют защиту от обрыва магнитной плёнки.

      Yes, great idea, but the spin is slow and low power so will need gears and a generator big enough, could be tight, but definitly worth a try 👍

    And to charge battery you could do mini alternator driven from cassette player.

  •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great job. I have a question for you. Can add charging mechanism when the wheel rotates? so you don't have to charge outside.

      I was thinking the same thing, inducing a current via the wheel should be valid addition.

    • @AndroOnly
      @AndroOnly 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this would be difficult... One would probably need a motor which would charge the battery when the wheels are turning, but this would make the recorder stop because it thinks it reached the tape end... But maybe someone can find a solution for this!

      I think one way to work around that problem would be to add a set of contacts at the top of the tape housing, and a mating set inside the boom box. That way, the adapter could draw power from the boom box directly when inserted. If done correctly, it wouldn't even interfere with real cassettes. Of course, the Bluetooth adapter would only work with that particular player unless you adapted other players as well.
      Then again, if you went with using some contacts, you could use similar contacts for the audio as well, and sidestep the whole magnetic coupling thing entirely.

      Нечто подобное делал в своё время, вполне хватало проброса пассика меж колесиков тех. Ну и, ежели пошла такая пьянка, тогда уже привод использовать для заряда аккума, небольшой собственной генерации вполне хватит.

    Интересно сделано,на основе радио сигнала, смарт в виде передающей станции а приёмник в касете, прикольно это как блютуз колонка работает, только ясно дело ни у кого такой нету, это эксклюзивный вариант. И колонки старые наверняка по звучанию ещё ничего на уровне.Не спешите выбрасывать старые касетники они ещё пригодятся.

    nice concept but 99% of tape decks have a sensor under the spools to ensure that the spool being pukked by the driven spool is actually turning - you need a drive band between the 2 spools.

    Buena idea, pero solo es útil en una casetera mecánica como la del video. No sirve en una casetera electrónica ya que el sensor de giro del carrete que traen las casteras electrónicas no detectará movimiento del carrete de suministro por ende detendrá el reproductor al creer que se acabó la cinta.

    There is a little lack in this project. Most cassette recorders wouldn’t work longer than a second with your device because of auto stop system. The trouble is that the other tape doesn’t spin . You should have connected them together with a rubber belt or smth. On the whole, great job!

      Albshore8 think its kind of cool if you've got one of those classic 80's cassette deck boom boxes. You can be both retro and modern at the same time without having to mod and spoil the originality of your existing cassette deck. Believe it or not chrome and metal mix tapes sounded brilliant on these things!
