First time I drove a Minneapolis moline was a U with a hand clutch and was the most fun tractor driving it and always wanted a collection of old Molines. I seen one for sale just like that for sale diesel 4wd hand clutch and wanted it bad. Definitely want a u and a r hand clutches
I knew it would fire right up!! More than likely still all original. My Grandpa farmed with all Moline. He's passed on now but all of his Moline are still in the family and all of them are still every day workers. (I was lucky to acquire him Minneapolis Moline U) they tend to be a little cold blooded. My Uncle is a great mechanic he would have it purring like a kitten in no time.
@@GierokFarms my Grandfather farmed with Moline he had an M-602 and a bigger one I think it was a G1000 Vista. They both started up but they seemed to spit and sputter some until they warmed up.

I heard you mentioned that it was rebuilt sounds like maybe the engine was rebuilt? You'll notice that's an indirect injection engine on the side of the engine opposite the injectors you see like what looks like the heads of bolts those are actually the precombustion chambers and those are known to crack which will give you a skip at full throttle. The other thing is the injection pump timing needs to be set at 1800 RPM but a lot of guys make the mistake of setting the timing on the injection pump at full throttle and then it causes it to skip. The valve springs on the 504 can also get weak and the valves will "float" Meaning of valves won't close all the way at full throttle and you'll get that skip and blue smoke like it had. Honestly if the price is right like I said in my other comment that tractor is an animal and it will never let you down.
If 'oil leaks' are the only problems keeping it from the sale, many old tractors have oil leaks and just takes some attention to fix. Old batteries are always an issue so automatically figure to just buy a new battery but also install a battery disconnect switch.
My father had a G706 in 1968. I put a lot of hours running it with a 12' 6" offset disk and till n pak'. It didn't have a 3 point nor PTO either. The Moline engine was a real beast. We farmed in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Nice to see the model. Not many are left in that good of shape today.
To me the only 706 is a 1967 Farmall with the German 310 diesel. Rated 75 hp at the pto; those tractors will work. My uncles bought one new in '67 and it is still in daily use.
Very common for the left brake to be worn down it's the closest pedal and it's the one that usually gets used the most. I believe that tractor should have external brakes and they're not hard to adjust or replace. I would have to do a little research between this one and the G1000 to see how similar they are. If you or your buddy would like my email address I love those Moline tractors and I'll gladly share with you any service literature I have or pictures of ours
Left brake usually gets worn more because of moldboard plowing. The left wheel outside the furrow is the one that usually spins so you apply the left brake to keep moving.
MM was way ahead of its time. Had FWA probably 10 yrs ahead of competition. First tractor to have a cab. 1939 UDXL. Did you stop at any bars? There is a bar every 5 miles in WI you know.
We had a m5 diesel about the same vintage as the 706 and it was cold blooded also. The brakes were worn out don't remember much slop in the transmission though. I recognized right where you were driving i live like 2 miles from highway 33 and 67. Did you get to see all of the gators sitting around the John deere plant in Horicon.
I grew up with the Massey 95 Super and they like their ether in the morning & they will miss and run rough until you make them work.Otherwise they will outwork bigger tractors
Your "traveling down the road" music reminded me of the old Richard Farnsworth movie called "The Straight Story" about an old-timer that drove his riding lawnmower a couple hundred miles to see his dying brother.
That Moline looks like it's an animal. We have a G 1000 Vista with a 504 diesel and that thing is one of the best sounding strongest engines I have ever heard. Let me know if your buddy needs any tips on anything I've been around those tractors quite a bit
That front wheel really seemed to be wandering and yes it was missing - maybe needs a pump rebuild or an injector. If it's cheap you could fix it but it definitely shouldn't be a premium price.
Maybe the fork that allows the transmission to go into gear may be worn out and sound like a good idle but almost sound like a lifter was stuck or fuel filters might be needed to be replaced also
Like anything, expect some repairs. I see it like you won't find that power and dependability in new machines like you do in old iron. Those Molines are tanks. Treat them well and it will turn the earth without complaint! I would bring it home if it were on my radar.
Family ran LPG M-M's till mid 70's. Bought 1 of these new. Biggest issue was front axle was geared too fast ( to ease turning) and under a good pull on hard ground would hop so bad you had to throttle back or tear it up. 2nd owner of ours put 705 axle under it -gave up 4X4 totally.
Awesome Toyota except the standard I'm automatic just to let everyone know I practice got my license on a standard many years ago lol awesome video GOD BLESS 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂
My experience with Molines is about 10 years older than that one. If it is like the old ones, they didn’t run right until the engine temperature was over 200 degrees. It needs to be put on a Dino and run for about an hour. The weak right brake is likely because they were riding it when they were plowing in the late fall. The tractor probably doesn’t have a differential lock, and the driver would ride the brake to get the tractor to use the left wheel ( the wheel with the most traction.
Cool MM beast. There’s a nice little MM “museum” in the ground floor of an apartment building called The Moline, which sits on the site where the MM plant used to be in Hopkins, MN. It needs injectors and fuel pump gone through, need to spend some $ on that. They likely didn’t do that when they rebuilt it. Those MM’s run perfect when the fuel system is right. The brakes are individually adjustable, but if it spent a lot of time going round n round the shoes on one side might be gone, cuz the steering radius isn’t very good. So when you say slop you mean 4 to 6 inches the tractor will roll back-and-forth like backlash? That's like really really excessive it either has a partially sheared axle key, or one of the hubs isn't clamped to the axle tight or something is like major wrong inside that transmission. I know the G 1000 has clamp or wedge type hubs I guess you would call them and under some heavy work conditions they can actually loosen up. The bolt torque is like 500 foot pounds it's something ridiculous so they've got to be pretty tight or you'll have issues
Can I ask where this was at? I can tell it was in my neck of the woods when you went thru Horicon and the John deere plant. Sounds like injectors and fuel pump need to be gone through.

It seems like the owner might not want to part with it or he's not super excited about selling it which I can certainly understand. I thought it started pretty well, those 504 engines are all a little bit cold blooded. The best thing to do with them is an intake heater and not hammer them with starting fluid
