WAP-7HS 30750 GZB shed High Speed Locomotive produced by CLW achieved speed of 180 kmph during statutory trials in RDT-LBN section of Kota Division on 12.8.2019. This WAP-7HS Locomotive is capable of pulling 24 coach train at 160 kmph as against the present maximum service speed of 140 kilometer per hour of WAP-7.
CLW produced this Locomotive in March 2019, within 6 months of assigning this work to CLW (Sept 2018) including design, simulations and production. This loco was dedicated to Nation by Honble MR Shri Piyush Goyal on 07.03.2019.
The complete design and development of locomotive have been done indigenously at CLW. The necessary simulation and modelling are carried out by CLW in-house. To enhance the speed of the locomotive, a weight reduction of about 14 tonnes have been carried out. The gear ratio changed from 3.6 (72:20) to 3.2 (70:22). The software modification has been carried out to optimize slip-slide control and tractive effort.
The new type of locomotive is expected to facilitate the operation of premium trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi and, Duronto at a higher speed.

This was 4 years ago, and today they have reduced Vande Bharat's top speed from 160 to 130 kmph, just because two trains met with an accident due to signal failure.

WAP4 has been tested at 186 kmph
WAP 5 can hit 225kmph but with a limited no of coaches. Mostly 10 coaches

@@afzalnh yeah man wap5 doesnt have the capatability to go on longer routes and long trains which are 20 coaches+. WAP7HS gives you this capability
@@shivansh12951 will await to c which train or rake can take 24 coach rake to 3000kms in 30hrs first at the very least Let's hope all durontos r given this and any journey in India is reduced to less than 30hrs from anywhere to anywhere in India..... That will b a really a big achievement for indian railways.....

@@thakurabhishek840 especially chugging of ALCO's and jet engine sound and acceleration of EMD's..
Both uses the same electric motor. Electric locomotives draw electricity from power line above it and passes to the electric motor. While the Diesel loco has a generator which generates the electricity and passes to the electric motor, here the Diesel is used to run the generator inside the loco that's it. This is the difference between the electric and diesel locomotives.

If the WAP7/4 locomotive is updated, this locomotive can run up to 250 km.
And at the same time, if all the rail trucks can be changed, they can run better.

Our tracks are too old and maintaining velocity near about 300 km/hr on broadgauge track is not joke.
How many carriages does Korea express pull? Indian locomotives pull 24 carriages!
Speed is not priority for Indian Railways because there is always dense human and animal population on both side of tracks. Also, these engines are primarily built to pull more than half kilometer of carriages at 120kmph
