Maya bay is OPEN! After 3.5 years of closure due to over tourism and severe damage to the ecosystem! We were lucky enough to step foot on this famous and iconic beach and it did not disappoint!
Today we venture to the most beautiful island in the world!! One that is talked about and shared for decades! Phi phi island is actually an archipelago of 6 islands Maya bay, Phi Phi don and Phi Phi Leh form part of the 6 which we visit today!
If you haven’t been here yet, this is something you cannot miss out on, the iconic long tail boats, limestone rock faces and of course that turquoise water! We were in awe of this magical paradise!
Maya bay got its fame from featuring in the 1999 movie “The Beach” Starring Leonardo DiCaprio. For many years boats filled with eager tourists used to visit this beach - around 5000 people per day!
The beach closed due to severe damage to the environment and now the beach is finally open with some conditions:
Only 400 guests per day
If you visit without a tour boat you need to pay 400 baht national park fee
No swimming allowed
You have a limited time at this island (around 1 hour)
We recommend taking a private boat if you would like to send more time there!

We paid 1800 baht per person and loves seeing so many places in one day!

I went there roughly 12 years ago when they allowed swimming in the bay. It's definitely an eye opener for people who love the beaches and sea. I'm glad they limit the number of visitors now and no swimming.

Went to Maya Bay exactly 30 years ago March 92 and our boat of 12 was the only boat there at 3 in the afternoon.. It truly was paradise and cemented my love for the Kingdom that still survives to this day 🇹🇭❤️

The reason why swimming is not allowed is because, the oils and chemicals from the suntan lotions were killing the corals around Maya Bay….just to let you know.

@@powerzone7146 swimming was allowed but tourists nearly ruined the ecosystem. So the thai government shut down Maya Bay for a few years. Maya Bay was reopened to tourists a year ago but swimming is not allowed anymore
I went to Phi Phi island in 2011 and your reaction is exactly what my reaction was the first time I walked onto Maya Bay - it really is paradise and probably the most beautiful place in the world. I really like the footpath they've built from behind Maya Bay to walk a few minutes to the beach itself, that wasn't there when I was on Maya Bay and I think it's a great idea because it was just overruled with boats and tourists before. I would love to see more of the islands that make up Phi Phi - I only went to Maya Bay and one other beach where I had lunch and I went snorkelling in the sea, and tropical fish were swimming all around my legs, it was incredible. I love Thailand and I will definitely go back one day.

It was an incredibly brave and selfless decision - they lost billions of bahts in revenue from tourism. For me, it shows true love for the country. Thailand was and will be forever my favourite destination ❤

I have visited Thailand 4 times - 3 times I did the day trip to Koh Phi Phi and one time I stayed on Koh Phi Phi Don for 3 nights. I did visit Maya Bay 3 times - first time it was so overcrowded so I've decided on the next 2 visits we went about 7.30am and was out of there before 9.00am when flocks of boats and people arrive. On my 4th visit, it was closed but we did see it from the boat though

Another Awesome Video you two! I was in Phuket this last time from December 11th to January 6th and although Maya Bay opened on Jan 1st, it was already booked solid for the days I could go so I will get back there again next time, I really want to see it once with only 300 people instead of in the past 5000 and 100 boats. I am sure it was amazing without all the boats as well as people. It is a great idea to take the ferry over to PhiPhi and stay a night or two as you said. The hike up to lookout 1 and lookout 2 is incredible. I suggest to anyone reading this, when you get off the ferry and check in, spend that afternoon going up to the lookout for the sunset and the following day, get a private longtail that can take you around the PhiPhi other islands on a half day tour if needing to get back that day or if staying 2 nights, definitely do the full day. Last but not least, KHAI ISLAND MY FAVORITE! I just love this little island and doing the multiple island tour is just not enough time. From Phuket, do the half day just to Khai island. Go around the complete island via foot and on the back side, there is an amazing rock formation that is like a 100 foot lizard. Hike up onto the head with someone staying below for some amazing photos! Again, thanks Shev and Dev for letting us be apart of your amazing journey! Hope one of these days to cross paths with you in the beautiful kingdom.

Maya Bay belongs to the Phi Phi National Park located on the west coast of Phi Phi Island. It is mainly famous for being the site where the Hollywood film “The Beach” was shot. The sea is crystal clear, the sand soft and white. It is an incredibly picturesque location.

I couldn't agree more, the Koh Phi Phi islands are unbelievably beautiful! I went for three days back in 2019 and stayed five, lol . I'm heading there for sure in a couple of weeks! Also will be doing the yacht tour you guys did in the last video. I'm making a seven day run up to Bangkok on the 1st, Tuesday, then can't wait to get back down here for two months! Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Ley has the softest sand that I've ever walked on. The location is being loved to death by all the tourists. Beautiful waters. Yes, a "Must See" when in that area.

Hi Shev and Dev. I think i may have done the same or similar tour as you to Maya Bay and the surrounding islands in 2012. Maya Bay was a lot different then there was no boardwalk and we arrived on the beach side. I recall snorkelling in the waters off some of the islands it was so clear. Nice drone shots. Thanks for sharing it brought back fond memories. 🙏👍😀
Wow yes we can imagine what it must have been like then! The snorkelling here is just incredible, these days there aren't too many fish unfortunately but the water still remains clear and incredible 😍

I recommended mountain resort where situated Sunset beach.
The best bungalow located on the cliff with panorama scenery and huge
private corridor is the deluxe room no. 10 ( of course the price is a bit high but not beyond affordable, you should check it out, maybe reduced from the Covid effect ) welcome to Thailand.

We had the pleasure of visiting phi phi mayo on 2 separate occassions.. Has to be the most beautiful place on earth.. The water color is absolutely breathtaking . Downside was there were much too many boats and people so they closed it for a couple of years. Second time , we took a longboat from phi phi don which took us right around the island.. which was great .. That was just before covid and phi phi maya was still closed , but we were still in awe at what we got to see... Would we go again ? You betcha.

I realize you were island hopping, but you didn't really see what Phi Phi had to offer. The hike up to the overlook is one of the most scenic places in the world. The nightlife is also legendary!
