I'm 75 and 2 years ago i could barely walk due to hip pain and what I considered to be sciatica pain. Tried everything from chiro and even went to an orthopedic surgeon. I was using a cane and sometimes crutches and using those battery carts in stores. I have an inversion table and started using it every morning. I started doing deep/asian squats. Took a while to master that one but it can be done and now I do them comfortably. I also do another sciatica stretch that I found on your channel. Also do about 10 regular squats. That is my morning schedule and takes about 6 minutes. I am now pain free and have been for about 1.5 years. Some kind of stretching is the key!
Ugh ...I was just lamenting how much I hate squats/lunges because my knees hurt. I never do them because of this. I will study this video 😄 Thanks guys!
I started back with squats by holding the edge of my kitchen sink. I can now squat down deeply with my rear almost on the ground. I do 10, 2 or 3 times a day. I don't have to use the handicapped toilet any more - No matter how low the potty is!!! No more flopping down into my chair ... easier up and down stairs. Squats are a lifestyle saver!! (I also do pushups on the kitchen coffee counter where my feet are supported against the perpendicular counter about 4 feet away ... I can maintain great form here, and hope to progress to girl pushups on the floor soon!
What a fabulous way to go about doing squats. There is an older lady I watch here you TH-cam that does pushups on the edge of her kitchen counter, no wall behind her, she claims it’s all she does daily and her arms look great.
Squats are a love hate relationship. I'm 64 and have been working out for years but my legs have been neglected many times . Now I do weightless squats on Wednesday. 1 week I do 3 sets and I'm up to 100 on the first set and I do whatever I can the last 2 sets. Walking is painful for about 4 days. The 2nd week I do 20 sets of ten changing my foot width. Now im am starting to love doing them. It takes time.
Oh wow, so I don't have to sit down to do squats!!! You are angels, thank you so much. I started seeing a physical therapist to help me manage my sciatica. Best thing I did for my health. 😊
Thank you! I've been afraid to squat for years, since i broke my tibia and fibula. You are spot on. I do exercises for my calf for riding horses. Put the ball of my feet on the edge of the lowest stair, relax and drop my heels, then come back up. I'm pretty flexible, but i have a lot of fear (and one bad knee), but i was able squat and come back up. I'll increase slowly. It's so much fun to be able to be flexible and not have to fear being hurt or unable to get back up!
Thank you, it helps showing your bare leg as it can be difficult through clothing sometimes to understand exactly how to perform a move - especially when one false move can see you stuck in bed for the day!
Thank you, very helpful. I had an unusual experience yesterday. We went to the show and I have a terrible time climbing stairs, so I was a little worried when I saw there were 5 stairs in front of me. But I found going up and down them gave me no pain because there were railings on BOTH sides I could grasp! I was so happy, was thinking of asking the proprietor if I could come back and just practice doing this one exercise.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video!!! My knees, back, and poor balance thank you, also! There’s no way I could do squats the way other videos demonstrate. This video gives me hope!!
Well this got complex rather quickly. I'm a senior who does every other day workouts/yoga, and simply am helping myself up from a squat by grabbing onto a door frame. Some days little help, some days a lot or skip squats entirely (and just do stretches) to avoid injury.
Guys, I teach exercise to seniors (in a retirement home) with the youngest being in their mid 70s and the eldest 101 Most ambulate with a walker (including the eldest), one mostly in a wheelchair and 2 without any aid). I do the exercises in the chair. So what would be the chair versions of these exercises that you have shown to create more range of motion.
Guys, can you help me? I have bone spurs in my knees. Now, I can do squats, no problem. My knees get stabby pain when I turn out (think first position in ballet) and attempt a grand plie. I can only go halfway down now. For decades I did full plies but no more! Those knees get too stabby. Can you help me?
I was about to bring up broken ankles, but you finally mentioned them. Meet my band: Arthur Itis and The Bone Fusion have played my feet since the early 80s. Getting up and down was never pretty. Squats? The capitals aren't loud enough and the page isn't long enough for that laugh.
My problem is, I have to bend forward when I squat, I can't seem to keep my back vertical sit up, or I feel I'm going to fall backwards. What's the cause and remedy for that?
That first stretch Mike demonstrated with knee to chest...do it like that, but bring the leg across to opposite side. Hold for 30 seconds. Works for me. Heat and a good deep tissue massage works best for me, and I would do that regularly if I could afford it.
Clamshells will save your life. Hold it open for 1 minute so the muscle will contract. (I had to work up to 1 minute.) Do each side. Once I learned that I wanted the muscle to contract instead of stretch I started doing contracting stretches & I could walk without pain & weakness.
We completely understand that, however in order to continue offering what we do for free, we do have to get paid somehow and that is a big contributor that keeps our company alive. Hopefully you can understand. Also, please be aware that we are NOT the ones that put the ads in the video. This is done by TH-cam. We don't even know which ads are going to be showed, so please be aware that just because the ad shows up in the middle of of our video, that does NOT mean that we stand behind that product. Hope this makes sense. In the comment below about the ads, there are a lot of helpful hints people gave to get rid of the ads!
It takes 6 mins for your bods whole blood to he filtered through your kidneys, hold your legs up each day, against the wall is ok, there's holistic meds for leg circulation, r u overdoing it causing cramps, I got them as a kid maybe cramps were growing pains, good luck, keep searching....
Gosh, I can't say how frustrating it is to try to watch your videos now since the overlaid ad strip covers crucial views of content. Wish you could find another way to advertise product yet have a clean viewing for your videos. Appreciate all you do and find great value in it but I give up now, because of the obstructed view.
I have concerns with Mike. From what I have read he is NOT a physical therapist, but an assistant. It is disappointing you do not have a trap PT on here. Please recobsider
Mike does have his degree as a PTA, which is a physical therapist assistant. However, he has worked directly with Bob and Brad for over a decade now and all his knowledge and information comes directly from them. Please be aware that the content in these videos also is written directly from Bob and Brad.

Really great video, thanks!

Can. you suggest a compression product for sore hip and glute muscles?
You can do squats leaning on a footstool! I do it with hip impingement.
My problem is, I have to bend forward when I squat, I can't seem to keep my back vertical sit up, or I feel I'm going to fall backwards. What's the cause and remedy for that?
What's the brand of shoes Mike has on? Looks like a good design.
Whiten Shoes, you can get them on Amazon!
Proper squats don't have the knees so far forward of the toes.
How about a leg press or leg sled?
That's a great video idea, will add it to our to do list!

I can see the video fine. Don't know what you could be seeing
For me the video is easy to see. I am on a cell phone. I wonder if it is a setting on your own device.
On the ad, to the right are three dots. Click on the dots and you'll see an option to dismiss the ad
Yes definitely get some help to see what's happening with your setup -it's your phone. . Hope you can sort it out soon 🙏
Hit the small x on the strip & it'll disappear.
What exactly does Noodling mean? Is that a massage sort of thing? Haha sounds amusing.
LOL, thanks for watching!
I get it, but the ads running thru your videos now really suck!
If that chair slides... 😫
