Yet another of my favourite episodes of the series. Appreciate your podcast so much. Thanks Gus and Luke.

I found this podcast while recovering from cancer surgery back in 2021. As a Sherlock fan I have enjoyed Ronald Howard, Basil Rathbone and of course Jeremy Brett. I enjoy your insight and love of the show.

At 1:19:58 they talk about colonel coming to the window and looking at Holmes and Watson from the window and that this gave away that he was the culprit. Well in this episode multiple characters have that kinda moment, the distraction moment you could say. When Holmes and Watson leave after talking to the ticket seller at the train station, he immediately picks up the phone to call someone to possibly report about Holmes' inquiry. And Sidney Johnson, the older man showing Holmes the plans makes a suspicious "they're getting too close to truth" kinda expression after Holmes leaves the office. So they gave all three characters suspicious moments.

This is by far my favorite podcast - such passion and hard work goes into each one and it comes over in the audio.

It's a real pea souper. Jeremy Brett is immortal. Best podcast on TH-cam. What an amazing body of work you have done. This episode was the last of Jeremy at the peak of his powers but I can watch the first two series ad infinitum as they're just exquisite

Made up to see this today. I miss them, and they're so well done.
I would love to see Disappearance of Lady Francis Carfax next. To hear reactions from Cheryl Campbell, Michael Jayston and Jack Claff would be amazing. That's one of the best episodes in the series.
Well done you guys for all you do, it's alot of hard work and commitment

I agree about Lady Frances Carfax. Cheryl Campbell was exceptional as the eccentric woman.

You have no idea, the absurd flood levels of excitement endorphins released when seeing a new episode uploaded from my favorite podcast on the internet! I wish I would have caught it live 😕, but I listen to each episode multiple times as if it's the show itself, consistently catching new threads to follow. I greatly appreciate the honest discussion, we're getting to the crossroads where the quality is still very high but the cracks are showing. An 8.3 is entirely fair, I myself went into it with a personal (arbitrary) score of around 8.0-8.4. There is much to love and absorb, with some.. interesting / perplexing choices along the way. I cringe a bit when Jeremy is singing in the beginning, but was a bit floored when you played a sample of him singing in "The Merry Widow"; he's a genuinely crooner! You can hear the training pay off with his controlled vibrato, which is an exceptionally difficult vocal technique. So much to dive into, I could go on for paragraphs! Thank you for this truly magnificent episode; I can't even fathom the process and execution of such a layered and informative chronicle of a relatively obscure work from the 80's, making it wildly exciting from start to end. All I can say is, "you guys get it" hah. You have never done anything but exceed my expectations, time and time again. It's to the point where I study your episodes nearly as much as the original works themselves! Thank you so much.

Wow, thank you very much! We're thrilled all the work that goes into it is appreciated. It's a labor of love for us, but it's genuinely nice to hear. So thank you!

I enjoy the details you give about a series I've loved for years, but I actually like this episode which, for me, doesn't have any awful visual effects that spoilt some of the later episodes.

This is a tough episode to get through. I think the acting is great but it’s the story or the script. There’s just not much there to sink your teeth into. It does have one of my top ten Jeremy-isms. When he is leaving the room after talking to Mycroft: “Bradstreet, Watson, Mrs Hudsoooon!”

Please note pronunciations. Avon is pronounced almost like Avin, not Avon like the fragrance company. When I stayed with my English friend, she corrected how I pronounced the river LOLI I've just discovered your channel and it is like getting an early Christmas gift. Love it and just had to subscribe.

I suspect your friend might have been having some fun with you. I live in the UK, and at one point wasn't too far from the Avon. Everyone I know pronounced it Avon. Maybe your friend knew the correct pronunciation, but most people here say Avon 😊

@@jeffreybarton1297 I distinctly remember her telling me. Funny how some things stick in one's head even after decades. However, she was born and raised in Coventry. This was in the '70s. Perhaps that made a difference.

@@Cissy2cute Could be 😊 I read online that it's based on a Welsh word Afon. The Welsh have always been awkward, though. There's a village in Wales called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Now that's just plain silly 😄

@@jeffreybarton1297 Welsh is an amazing language. And a lot of people love the Welsh accent. Some find it sexy. And they have their fair share of talent, such as singers and actors.
