    I made mine a couple months ago.
    Instead of the clamp, I have 2 turn buckles that brace the carrier to the safty chain loops which are a bit further spaced apart from the hitch itself and quite strong.
    I made the carrier so a hinged ramp swings out and the pull on 2 sprung pins and the carrier tilts to on side for easier loading.
    Its also stepped up so it doesnt cut my departure angle too much and my full swing door clears it when the bike is off.
    2 more turn buckles to the bottom of bike to tie it down.
    I also made some tethers with cable and coloured clips which look awesome.
    Went down the west coast of tasmania to test it out and it held up great.
    They are a great thing for camping

    I have a similar hitch bike rack. I've been using it for over two years now, and tt's a game changer for me. I got one that is rated up to 250kg as apart for my XR250, from time to time, I also use it to transport my road bike. Since getting hitch bike rack, I haven't used my 3-bike trailer, and hence sold it. Tip: I recommend using a fork brace support to prevent the front suspension from bouncing up and down. The brace keeps the bike taut and secure without compressing the suspension.

    Bought one of these a couple of months ago, love it, great bit of kit, really well made. Surprised me just how secure it was once the shim and u-bolt were in, rock solid!
    I’ll give you a tip for loading too, don’t do the wheel chock first, lean the bike slightly towards the rear of the car and hook the turnbuckle to the peg furthest from the car, it’ll just sit there until you can retrieve the bolt from the ramp and hook up the other turnbuckle and put the wheel chock in place, much easier. Also turn the bike on to load it, none of this pushing business 😉
    Also just wanted to say great videos, particularly love the practical decision making to go with quality products and only spending money where you really need!

    It's a good innovation. Been using a GripSport one for the mountain bikes for a few years now.
    How do you go with the tow ball weight? It looks like it'd be putting a bit of pressure on the hitch receiver.

    • @pimpshark
      @pimpshark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been looking at these racks. Most receivers have a tow ball rate of at least 200 KG. So with a bike like that no problem at all.

  • @benwhittaker8630

    Can it be installed facing the other way? So you could pull up in front of a bike shop and unload on the passenger/footpath side? Would also easier to grab some front brake when unloading.

    • @racknrollmc

    Great video, best rack I've seen yet. Question, could they make it and it still be safe to where l could open the tailgate And camper shell back window of a Toyota Tacoma truck?
    I think it would only take approximately another 6 to 8" longer, That way I could stop, get in the back the truck to sleep on a road trip without messing with anything.... Your thoughts would be Greatly appreciated.
    God bless.

    • @mkwa8870
      @mkwa8870 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think if you extended the rack 6-8 inches it'd be a bit too long. I'm not an engineer (yet), but that's a very significant increase in the length of that arm. I'd be concerned about it moving around, if not bending. I'm assuming you're in the US too, based on the tacoma. It'd cost a fortune to ship something that weighs this much to the States. Talk to a local mech. engineer and a fabricator, see what they can do for you on home soil. Good luck!

  • @JafffaAdventures
    @JafffaAdventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does anyone do one that pivots from the side of the vehicle when stationary? I have a LC200 with a tail gate and I don’t like the idea of pulling the bike off every time I want to stop for lunch or smoko to get into the back of the car. Something that fits into the tow hitch receiver but also swings away without having to take the bike off would be ideal. I’ve never seen one however. Do they exist?

    • @mkwa8870
      @mkwa8870 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The clamp thingos on these things are strong as, my mate has one. Put the wheel chock down and release the clamp closest to the car and let the bike hang on to that outside clamp, and you should have access to the boot if you've got a tailgate on that 200. If you've got barn doors, wait for the next great innovation I suppose. Hope that helps :)
