Fred again is a British EDM artist. Fred was Ren’s favorite artist last year and actually just won a Grammy. Ren took 5 different Fred again songs and pieced them together seamlessly in this acoustic mashup. He poured so much emotion into the performance, especially at the end. His friend Josh Stiles filmed the video and did a great job! Ren was very involved in setting up the angles and the flow of the camera work. Ren has so much attention to detail. The setting was meaningful - this is Ren’s apartment in Calgary where he’s been getting treatment for over a year. So it makes the “I’ve been lost for so long, but I’m really trying” lines even more impactful as he glances out at the Calgary skyline so far from home. Yesterday Ren released a video on his Patreon showing how he did the mixing. He does all of his own post production work. The vocals were left relatively raw intentionally. As you pointed out, it adds so much to the performance. Ren will be releasing a lot of new music this year! I’m excited
Something that stood out to me in that glance over his shoulder is how it echoed some of his performances with The Big Push on the roof of his apartment in Brighton. I don't know. It's hard to put into words, but it created even more distance for me, a greater sense of being lost.
Ren said he changed up the beat intentionally in that one spot. He doesn’t seem to do anything by accident, and is extremely diligent in the sound mixing of his songs, which are usually done by him alone.
When Ren is being emotive, he cuts right to the soul. Fred makes EDM dance music with emotive songs blended in. Ren took cuts from somgs that he liked and mashed them into this work.
Welcome back! I am continually excited every time I hear a Ren creation. I feel like we're watching something rare and special at the time it's evolving and we're fortunate to be along for the journey.
Enjoyed your reaction and was so happy to see you pop up on my feed today. Thank you. Nothing like a Ren performance to perk you up. Water for the soul. ❤
I totally agree with you - the mere concept of "perfect" art is oxymoron for me. A machine can make a perfect object, but art is subjective, open for interpretation. An actor will never be able to be the same in a play or a musician to hit the same note twice and that's the beauty of it. Ren's live performances are my favorite! Great reaction, thank you!
The interesting thing is that Ren is absolutely a perfectionist and wants every detail exactly right. Just think about how many takes he will take to get a live one shot video right (I think his record was 183 for Money Game part 1 😅). However, Ren understands that perfection can mean raw and vulnerable because that is what makes it resonate so strongly with other people and makes it so valuable as art. Perfectly imperfect. Also just obvious from these live recordings that he refined his art on the street busking. Ren makes music for people. And who else can take EDM tracks and mash them up into such an emotional performance? Ren is special.
Nice reaction, pretty accurate and yea I feel the same as previous comments Ren feeling a little melancholy on his recovery journey. Missing his mates and his Mom. I imagine so much support with his fans that he would never accept. He projects so much emotion makes everyone feel like so much more then just a fan ! I hope he is just getting started because I see nothing but good in his heart ! Looking forward to Thursday he is releasing Message in a bottle " cover" .
Hey there, LOVED this reaction, even though our musical tastes don't always align, when they do, I really enjoy your reactions. Not to gush, but I think there's often more negativity in the comment sections than positive, so I like to balance it out when I can...... There are very few reactors, I mean I can maybe count them on one hand, that I never fast forward through their commentary/pauses, and you are definitely one of them. Your ability to describe the intricacies of a performance, and point out the human nature, and subtle nuances that make an artist or their ability special or noteworthy are astounding, it's like having an itch you can't scratch, then hearing you're assessment is like being handed the worlds best back scratcher...lol, it's truly a gift that most don't possess. That's not even getting into the philosophical wisdom you impart at times that has less to do with music, simply just the human experience, so kudos my good man, please keep doing what you're doing, you have no idea how you positively affect some of us out here. Oh yeah, I'm pretty good at reading people (27yrs as a paramedic) and have seen enough of your reactions I'm pretty confident with two suggestions for Ren songs, whether you react to them or listen on your own, I think you will really enjoy them..... "Humble" - Ren featuring Eden Nash (female singer w/ amazing Island/calypso sounding voice), there's only one video, lyric video, the thumbnail has pink background. "Bongo Bong" (Manu Chao cover) - The Big Push (sans the drummer) This is the band Ren is in, live performance on a rooftop, great harmonizing, a verse in French, and a ukulele is involved, what's not to love!!? Only one video for it, thumbnail shows Ren holding a guitar. Ok, enough of my rambling, too much coffee too early, take care! ✌💚
The song covers in this mash-up are from the Fred Again music catalog (( UK Artist/DJ/Musician/Producer )) Ren's mash up is comprised of the main hooks from these EDM tracks by Fred Again. This acoustic performance by Ren makes it an outstanding stand alone piece.🤯 - Jungle🔥 - Delilah (pull me out of this)🔥 - leave me alone🔥 - Clara (the night is dark)🔥 - Angie (I’ve been lost)🔥 The city skyline view is from Ren's flat in Calgary, where he's been receiving treatment for the damage that his Lyme disease caused. Here’s what Ren wrote about Fred Again: “We went and watched Fred in LA back in October, toward the part of his set he played Angie (I've been lost) and the simplicity but power of that one repeated line pretty much broke me and I remember breaking down in the middle of a crowd of people. Something so simple pretty summed up the last 10+ years of my life and explained everything in a sentence. Music is fucking magic for that. Big big love to @fredagainagainagain for making wicked music!”.
"There is nothing valuable about perfection in art." It really makes me miss vinyl records -- the crackle and other noises are unique to vinyl -- you can't smooth it out in post, because "post" IS imperfect. Physical is different than digital, and live is different from auto-tuned. Great reaction. More Ren, please.
Ren is perfectly Imperfect. Those impefections he leaves in the songs and perfomances add a layer to the song and without them we would connect less with a "perfect" song.
That unexpected moment you feel tears in your eyes. Multiple viewings later, still happens. Fully agree that art is the spaces and imperfections and emotions. - Great reaction.
Glad to see you back. Love your analysis. Just watched the BTS on this ! Great to see the process. Ren added no guitar or voice to whst he recorded. He did use several EQ programs and reverb programs to add depth or "sparkle" yo areas. I loved how he took off reverb on voice to create intimacy and then added it to create ambience. I believe this was experts from 5 Fred Again songs with Fred's lyrics. Ren said the "Ive been lost " lyrics made him cry during the concert he attended because it perfectly described the last 10+ years of his life. He sure did a great job turning edm into an emotional Rollercoaster. I love this song. Over and over again❤😂❤
I have seen many (in the truest sense of the word) reactions to this song and yours stood out as one of the best, your professional experience gives your reaction a different quality... what you say about the inperfect quality of these performances is so true, first one of your reactions I have seen but subbed of this alone, keep it up man 👍
I think we ALL miss the human experience in musical art. I am a product of the music of the 70's. Not many or ANY artists can reach my soul like Ren. ❤
My favorite moment in this video is at the very end when he has to put his hand on his knee to steady his body. It's like he has to physically stop the music from coming out! 🎶Idk why but it makes me super emotional. Ren IS music!❤ Big up to Josh Stiles for the amazing camera work 🔥🔥
I always love your commentary and your professional take on Ren's music. When an artists mind leaves the body while performing and then 100% of the song comes from that body, perfection is the antithesis to that. I rarely see that in artists.
Completely agree with you about the value of honest, raw, live performances. We see that so rarely these days. Hope you feel better soon. ❤ Ren has a new live cover (back in 74/Message in a Bottle) coming this Thursday. Romain and Gorran have both got new songs out too, and they released an unseen The Big Push song. So you have lots of stuff to catch up on it you're wanting to dip a toe back into the rabbit hole. 😊
hello dear!! 'raw reality'!!! perfect, dude!!!! i may quote you ( if i may? ) it takes me back to years of living room and basement band jammin', wow!! flashback!! thanks!!!
"Fred again" is a EDM artist and this song is a mashup of 6 different songs of Fred again. There exists a Tiny Desk concert of Fred again. I recommend having a listen. It is great and it puts into perspective how much Ren has adapted those songs to fit for a classic guitar. It is brilliant 😂 Glad to have you back 😊

This song is an amalgamation of around 4 or 5 different songs from one of Ren's favourite artists called Fred Again. He is an EDM DJ and when Ren went to one of his concerts recently, he suddenly just broke down in the middle of the dancefloor bc he just resonated with the lyrics so much. That was the 'I am Lost' song at the end. If you want to see how truly brilliant Ren is watch this link to the original songs. So good to hear another of your Ren reactions! I hope you're doing okay? I have such fond memories of that Renathon a while ago - that was such a special moment!
Perfectionism makes any art form sterile and meaningless. Striving for perfection is about fear and control, and is only shown as something positive when you are trying to sell something.
I thought that I was “ safe” , aka not needing a box of Kleenex, with a mash up of EDM songs. But then I forgot that this is Ren. The tears began with “ I’m battling “ and then the end just destroyed me. He conveys the song with so much emotion and you can see it in his facial expressions as much as in his voice.

REN is so exceptional live he actually almost sounds better than perfect if that doesn't sound too silly.
Hope you start feeling better. Thanks for sharing REN. liked and sub!
Love what you had to say about the rawness and authenticity, the imperfection that Ren has and is missing in popular music today.
Ren is just amazing his vocal and guitar playing the camera work this was a Masterpiece loved it❤.

Been listening non stop since it dropped & still gives me goosebumps every time ❤️

Ren is perfectly Imperfect. Those impefections he leaves in the songs and perfomances add a layer to the song and without them we would connect less with a "perfect" song.
Loved your thoughts on live music ❤
I have missed you, man. Good to see you again. The songs are from an EDM artist called Fred Again. Thank you for this reaction.
What a beautiful reaction. Thank you ❤❤
It doesn’t. I could write a novella on the beauty of imperfection.
I do agree with all you said about live performances and appreciating their uniqueness.
That unexpected moment you feel tears in your eyes. Multiple viewings later, still happens. Fully agree that art is the spaces and imperfections and emotions. - Great reaction.
Hey…long time, no see! Good to hear your voice again. 2024 is the year for Ren & guitar. The Renegades are still here.

Big up to Josh Stiles for the amazing camera work 🔥🔥
I assumed his leg was shaking as a side effect of his treatment, but I hope you are right.
All the feels in this one🔥🔥🔥
Please don't be self-deprecating, you deserve no hate ever. 😊
real trumps fake perfection every time.
Absolutely loved your reaction and your take on his performance. The song gets me everything. I've subbed.
It does not get much more poignant than Ren looking out at Calgary while singing the Angie lyrics "I've been lost".
Thanks for this great reaction to Ren’s latest masterpiece. I love his performance in this one. 💜💜
Loved your discussion on the beauty of imperfection = art🌻
Always a joy to see your reactions.
I always love your commentary and your professional take on Ren's music. When an artists mind leaves the body while performing and then 100% of the song comes from that body, perfection is the antithesis to that. I rarely see that in artists.
Fred Again is an EDM artist that has deeper lyrics than 99% of that genre. The 5 songs Ren mashed up:
Jungle
Delilah
Leavemealone
Clara
Angie
Completely agree with you about the value of honest, raw, live performances. We see that so rarely these days.

4:35 I agree. Music today has gotten too sterile.
The word you were reaching for is acoustic combined with his artistry in which Ren is performing in alive one take.
Ren Fred again mashup lyrics and song titles
[Jungle]
Sailin' in the chopper road killin' like we vultures
I became a queen when I rode with them brothers
Turned to, turned to, turned to lion I eat nightmares for supper
Brraap Brraap on command I'll sick em' on another
'Cause there ain't no love in the jungle
Ain't no, no, no, no
Ain't no, no, ohh
Ain't no love in the jungle
Ain't no, no, no, no
[Delilah (pull me out of this)]
Pull me out of this
[leavemealone]
Everybody on a little mission mission
Money makes a go go missin' missin'
I get anyone in an instant instant
Everybody everybody everybody leave me alone
Her boobies gettin' lifted lifted
She wanna get lit lit lit lit
Fuckin' and battlin' and battlin' and battlin'
Everybody everybody everybody everybody
Everybody everybody everybody
Leave me alone alone alone
Leave me alone alone alone
Leave me alone alone alone
Leave me alone
[Clara (the night is dark)]
Courage my soul
It won't be very long
Though the night is dark
It keeps me holding on
God bless my soul
It won't be very long
And though the night is dark
It keeps me holding on
[Angie (i've been lost)]
I've been lost, I've been lost
I've been lost, I've been lost for awhile
But I'm really tryin'
I've been lost, I've been lost
I've been lost, I've been lost for awhile
But I'm really tryin'
I've been lost, I've been lost
I've been lost, I've been lost for awhile
But I'm really tryin'
I've been lost
I've been lost
I've been lost
But I'm really tryin'
There ain't no love in the jungle... but we're trying...
