Good day, I watch your channel from time to time, learned a lot. Question for you, I went to a dealer to purchase a used 2019 Ram Limited with 15530 miles, yes 15530. The KBB low price is $39,443, to which I added $1850, I was thanked, the dealer only wanted full price PLUS a mileage adjustment fee of $9450, wow. My credit union estimated $4590 for mileage adjustment, I walked away. No hurt feelings. thank you guys. Keep educating us.
I've watched several of your vidoes, and I feel this one is by far one of your best. Great information in just 40 minutes. I have to admit, I have made some of the mistakes that you refer to. Not any more though. Kevin, you and the Amazing Elizabeth have made me a smarter car buyer. THANKS for the service that you supply to the public.
I bought my 2018 Taurus 3 years ago when they had several thousand in rebates and the dealer was offering another $2500 off. I bought a car with a sticker of $28k for $20k. Ford was discontinuing the model and it was near the end of the model year. Everybody is buying SUVs, so I bought a Sedan. When you buy something that is out of favor you can save.
I bought a new Chevy Cruze hatch back in early 2018 it was on the lot one month brand new but the Cruze was being discontinued in the states, and I personally prefer to drive a car.MSRP was $24800 with a lot of haggling I got it for $17000 So good for us it's now 3.5 years old and it's worth $2500 more the what I paid for it with the new car shortage going on
The last part of this video is golden. Try paying cash for a car and you will see really quick how expensive they are. They depreciate rather than appreciate so not a good place to put a lot of money.
So glad to have you and your info. Must watch the vids here if you are going to buy. We decide on a car. Kia. Shopping around, we had Nissan tell us we had to fork over id, show work history, wanted to know drivers, on and on. When threatening to leave I end up with sales manager telling me the same. If we don't show them we can afford we were not going to get a test drive. I just packed up and said we would go somewhere else. He was pissed. We did shop. Where we purchased. They let us test drive without a tail. No license shown. No info besides who we were. When looking the online price was cheaper and when we asked they lowered the price. They worked with final price not payment. Worked with one guy from looking to sell and he even filled out our paperwork. No manager, no finance person. We were shocked. And the internet was open and free to use. They let us leave twice. Once for lunch and again after we worked on the price. We took his number and went shopping. He had no problem and he ended up the best deal. Thanks for all the help.

(THEN we negotiated financing…) But I tell you what, if I had access to the information in this video, I would have saved even MORE money! A 2-4 year old vehicle costs almost the same as a new car but with higher interest rates. Times have changed. Go new is actually sometimes better if you are looking for a Honda or Toyota.
I went in alone as a female to the dealer, I am probably a harder negotiator then my husband anyway. Just put off a purchase of a new lexus because of ridiculous add ons. I went in, by appointment, for the 2023 Rx350h, white, luxury package with panoramic roof as the only other added feature over the luxury package. They knew exactly what I wanted because I done it online and sent my desired car to the online 'team' at the dealership. Cars currently being sent to the lot are loaded with upgrades to stereo, triple headlights, digital rear veiw mirrors all costing $5000+ over what I actually want in my car. Multiple times the salesperson tried to steer me to the 2022 outgoing model even though I said I do not care for the look of the grill and milage is about 10 mpg off from the new model. When he gave me a print out of a car arriving soon there ridiculous add ons. $999 'mandatory ' on all new vehicles nitrogen filled tires, front 2 windows tint and door guards, yes $999! Also prior to coming in I had ran my current car on carvana to sell out right and got an offer of $34,136 which I was happy with (it was higher then what KBB said private sale would be) but the used car manager had told me to bring my car in, they could do better then that and wanted me to give them the opportunity to buy it. When I got there they only offered $30,000 but did go up to $32,000 before turned it down and left. Oh and the salesman told me Multiple times that he is not trying to pressure me into anything, that's not what we do here. Ha, pushing me to the outgoing model and colors other then white over and over, this is why I hate car dealers. I told them I am going to wait until there are more 2023 cars on the lot and that I did not appreciate the lie about my trade. The manager who told me they would give me a better price then Carvana never showed his face even though I called him out by name. My car is in excellent condition, low mileage, no kids and nonsmoker. Why would I give up over 2000 on the sale of my car then pay for $5,000+ in unwanted upgrades in a new vehicle. I am very happy I stumbled onto your videos.
I looked on the internet to find a car dealer with a 2022 Toyota Sienna to test drive. I chatted with the internet person who said come on in, for a test drive. I went the next day to Fort Bend Toyota in Sugar Land, TX. They had no Siennas. Their lot is vacant only a few used vehicles. Learning my lesson, I went back to the internet and chatted with another internet person at Sterling McCall Toyota, a much larger dealership, they couldn't tell me if they had a Sienna physically on their lot. I called Gulf Coast Toyota in Lake Jackson, nearer to my house, the internet showed 3 Siennas on site. They had none. I have been watching your videos and am ready to replace my 16 year old Sienna, but it looks like it will not be able to use my amazing negotiation skills yet. Thank you for all your information.
Had a Toyota sales person want me to sign that I would buy at X price. Took out my checkbook signed the check. Put the dealerships name on the pay to the order of line. I said, your turn. Salesperson said I need your signature to show my sales manager that you are serious about buying today. I said, if this blank check is not proof enough I cannot help you any further. I walked out. Next day, they text me. Thousands lower than the "reactionary" price they laid out. Amazing.
@@scottlehman47 I have done that as well. The stupid salesman thinks by getting you to sign a buyers order then you are "serious". Wrong! A blank signed check is the sign you are serous . Money talks, BS walks.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I've been watching some of your videos (new subscriber here) but to have everything all in one video is helpful! As someone who will be a first time car buyer in a few months, this info is all good to know. Thank you!
This is a fantastic video. It shows just how much money you can save when purchasing a car. I really makes me want to watch others to get the details. I am actually looking forward to shopping for my next car which will be very soon as I lost my last car in an accident, not my fault.
I'm a new viewer, just started watching your videos today, President day 2023. I've watched 3 videos already, and this video is so educational. Thank you. I smiled in the last contract, because it looked similar to my daughter's contract last year. She purchased a 2020 HRV. 👌🏽 We got a good deal! Thanks to Mama Bear, me being present! 🤣💯
I have been watching your videos every night. This video (so far) is the best with the most info. I am in the market for a new Silverado very soon and I am thinking about using your man Stewart.
2 reasons to consider purchasing a car that is fairly new: 1) Warranty for 36,000 miles of 3 years. 2) Purchasing an older vehicle with 50,000 miles on it could mean the oil has never been changed, etc. and repairs typically accelerate from 50,000 to 100,000 miles.
Today I purchased a Pre-owned vehicle a thanks to you I paid only what you teach us in your videos !!! it’s 100% real what you said !!! Thank you so much & get well soon !

New Sub here. I'm watching all your video's and learning as much as I can. Because, I'm really tired of being a bad shopper. And getting ready to shop again. Thanks for the content.
Many thanks to you! I was able to make a MSRP plus tax, tag and title on a 2021 Honda Ridgeline today! Norm Reeves Honda in Port Charlotte Fl. My trade was a 2019 F150 STX with 17000 miles on it. Because of the strong used car market right now they paid me 7K more than I paid for it originally. All Because of the education I received from your videos!
Seeing a run through of the different types of contracts was very informative. I also like the fact that you said...you buy a car when you need to. Please keep up the great work the two of you are doing....O! did you ever get to go to other cities and do a video on it? Peace, David
I need a car by next week but dealerships around here are being ridiculous. Used cars here are inflated by 30-40%, doc fees are $1000 and they won’t budge on them and most of the cars in my price range are either flawed, dirty, or have been in accidents. I don’t think I’m asking to much to get a clean smoke free car that gets good gas mileage and has a clean title with an out the door price of $15,000 or less. I don’t know what to do. I have tried looking private party but can’t find anything.
Pray about it and the Lord will show you what to do. I believe he will guide you and lead you to the right car. He did that for me numerous of times. I'm thankful especially since I'm a single woman.
If you buy any used car from a car lot that's past it's manufacturer warranty make sure it' has a certified warranty or at least a 30 day 3k warranty.people will trade cars in ,very nice cars or trucks with hidden issues that the dealer will not notice like a pinhole in a head gasket that could take 400 miles of driving to realize it's using coolant. And that's just one of many issues that could take a week or so of driving to catch. And make sure you ask for a car fax on the car your interested in. A lot of used cars on dealer lots are ex rental or off lease vehicles that had a rough life. The dealer will never tell you it was a ex rental or lease they'll tell you it was a one owner vehicle!!!
Thanks for the valuable information quick question, why it is necessary to put a Money down. When some of that money will be used for their junk fees at the dealership. Why not wait until the finance company receive the loan package, then apply the down payment directly to the loan.
Great video I have made better car deals and after your video I saw where I could do better. I am keeping my current car till the end and then I am going to walk if I don't get what I want (after doing my homework)
Not just insurance premiums, but if you're a first time buyer or otherwise never had insurance before, your insurance company may require a down payment to get insured. Consider this cost and get quotes before you try to buy a car. This especially important if no insurance company will waive the down payment, and if you have limited down payment funds.
I wish I had seen your videos before. Its superb tips and awesome knowledge that I will use on my next car. I bought a brand new Camaro RS convertible special package 2020 in June 2020 and I noticed all the extra fees on the contract. I'm not sure if I can dispute these extra charges currently. Can you help?
They generally don't mind that you have a preapproval from another bank or credit Union. Just make sure you tell them they have to beat your rate if they want a shot at the business.
Is whether or not you will use a dealer's service department a viable bargaining chip?...if so,when should that be brought into the process? #TheHomeworkGuy
I finally found a car! After about fifteen dealerships. I followed your tutelage, but I still had to budge just a little. I did have to pay a market adjustment. But it was half of what they asked, and it wasn’t $5000 like some dealers were asking.
@@tgf5652 define “better”.😝 The answer either way though is yea and no. Did I walk away from bad prices and deals, oh yes! Did I like seeing the look on those stumbling, mumbling salesperson’s faces when I called them out? Absolutely! Not a single one knew what to do when confronted with a person that knew how they played the game. It was beyond their training. But no, it wasn’t a better experience because we spent a full day, a full tank of gas and emotionally and mentally exhausted. I even went to a dealer that my father used to work at, and that was the worst experience of all. That’s the one where the salesman and his GM chased us out the door to our car, begging to fill out an app. After action report: Good: Got to test drive several cars to find the one I wanted. Didn’t get locked into a bad deal. Learned that all this super high intensity training isn’t wasted. They still pull all these tactics to this day. Bad: All that effort and came away empty handed. For the time being anyway. Ugly: Getting chased while trying to leave a dealership is something I never want to relive. And the car? Kia Stinger GT2.
Thanks for sharing such a great story. It is quite interesting to see all the elements unfold around you on a dealer lot when you know the game. You paid good attention to the videos, and it paid off. Well done! You made our day!
Hello Kevin, I hope all is well? I'm looking for a used car for my daughter. I'm also using the Costco and AAA car buying program. I'm doing my homework, but I wanted to ask you if that is a good route to go? You mentioned in your video Cpo is not always a good thing to use? I just want to buy my daughter a 3-4 year used car with a budget and no financing. Could you give me some tips,I greatly appreciate it. Thank you Kevin!
We uploaded an abbreviated outline of the FTC Regs for Dealers like that. You'll find it on our website: thehomeworkguy.com When you present the documents to the dealer, you ask "Have you heard of the FTC?" and then add, "You're behaving just like the dealers the FTC describes in this outline!" You need to also finish with "Take the Fee off or I'll file an FTC complaint." See our video "Lillian defeats a car salesman and a Finance Officer" She executed this strategy perfectly.
My only question is after you locked in a great deal price, trade value, interest rate are all good but then they won't drop the $500 dealer doc fee to $75 do you walk?
I too have this same question. I’ve tried this on a car deal and you would have thought I was from another planet by their reactions. Can anyone else in the comments validate that they were successful in dropping the dealer doc fee to $75? If so, how’d you approach it and what were some of the excuses the dealer gave you during the negotiation of that?
@@atharn6324 I live in Massachusetts and the dealers here all say they have to charge by law everyone the same doc fee. So what I do now I asked what the doc fee is early on and when it's time to talk price I just factor in the overpriced doc fee in the amount I asked off the price. So on the contract I pay the doc fee but make it up on the added discount. It's always still a battle.
@@arthurl.9985 that’s a great idea, thanks for the tip! On the whole, I agree that the dealer fees are overpriced and would love to just pay $75 but based on my experience it seems easier to negotiate the price of the car rather than the fees.
My question is, will the dealer kindly agree to remove those dealer-installed accessories just because I ask? I haven't seen any dealers doing that, and I wonder if it was because we were on the phone only and I wasn't there in person. But even in person, nothing worked since they aren't willing to negotiate. Any advice?
#thehomeworkguy I'm shocked at the the cash value I found through Kelly Blue book and Canadian black book up here in Canada. I had a cash offer made for less than half the asking price for a vehicle sitting on another lot in the city here. I'm not sure if I can really ask for that plus 5% and the $500 lot fees but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try.
When I get rid of a car the only thing upside down is the car itself--in a scrap yard. If it was still running and driving I would be the one still driving it.
I have a question how are used cars losing value yet i see them being sold for the same price of a new car, even more. I saw a used 2021 toyota corolla for 35k, and the new 2023 hybrid for about 24k.
I can do the cash route but it won't help you improve your credit rating. Unless our credit is already at 800 or we are in our 60s or 70s, it's not a good idea, especially if the loan has more than 2.9% interest. I am looking to buy a $31000 car with $4000 trade in, $7k. Down, 0% for 60 months to have a $350 month payment with option to prepay.
Excellent content! My daughter has a 2017 Lincoln MKZ and owes 19,000.00$ and wants a new car and I suggested to get approved at her bank, (as your videos describe). If she is approved the money/credit what is the next step. I wish you had a video for idiots like myself that LITERALLY go step by step once the credit union or bank has approved you. Thank you sir and young lady.
It’s painful to watch this video and realize the amount of “opportunity cost” I’ve paid over the years of buying cars. Thanks for the pain and the wake up call.

I went in to see a 21500 used car. The dealer offered 750 a month for 60 months before even running my credit.
Car dealerships should be illegal
New Sub here. I'm watching all your video's and learning as much as I can. Because, I'm really tired of being a bad shopper. And getting ready to shop again. Thanks for the content.
Many thanks to you! I was able to make a MSRP plus tax, tag and title on a 2021 Honda Ridgeline today! Norm Reeves Honda in Port Charlotte Fl. My trade was a 2019 F150 STX with 17000 miles on it. Because of the strong used car market right now they paid me 7K more than I paid for it originally.
All Because of the education I received from your videos!
Way to go!
Excellent contents helps me making a smart purchase thanks
Tremendous help to me. Thank you! Now to go see what Dave Ramsey has to say . . .
Kevin i opened a dealership in Chicago and im proud to represent honesty for you! Thank you for helping people!
oh yeah? where at ? Im in chicago and in need of a good car/truck.
Thanks for the great info.... I'm going to listen to it again. I DON'T want to make the same mistakes I've made over the years!
Many good tips in this video. I hope I can remember all of them when the time comes for me to select the car I want.
Love the show and learning a lot. Please tell Liz that I love her hair.
I'll pass that along. Many positive comments on her hair!
Thanks for showing examples. It's very helpful
Outstanding guys!
Excellent videos!! Keep up the great work!
Thank you, Doug!
This is awesome. Thank you 🙏🏼
Fantastic! Thanks!
I'm liking these videos!
I loved the contract review portion.
Great info, as usual, thanks Kevin and Eli
Thanks for the valuable information quick question, why it is necessary to put a Money down. When some of that money will be used for their junk fees at the dealership. Why not wait until the finance company receive the loan package, then apply the down payment directly to the loan.
Very good compilation!
I loved this video although i wish i saw it much sooner but now i know just what questions to ask and what to look for. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video I have made better car deals and after your video I saw where I could do better. I am keeping my current car till the end and then I am going to walk if I don't get what I want (after doing my homework)
Great tips! Thank you!

Thanks a lot! Sorry for not answering before, I ‘d been watching more videos👍🏼👍🏼🖖🖖
We all got to sit down, Great.
Not just insurance premiums, but if you're a first time buyer or otherwise never had insurance before, your insurance company may require a down payment to get insured. Consider this cost and get quotes before you try to buy a car. This especially important if no insurance company will waive the down payment, and if you have limited down payment funds.
Good advice! Never had a car before so this is helpful to know.
Thank you love that cleanest contract
Great information, definitely one of your best videos thanks
Thanks, Jorge. Tried to sum it all up in one place for car buyers. Share it out with all your friends and family!
What if your pre approved from a credit union when do you tell them
They generally don't mind that you have a preapproval from another bank or credit Union. Just make sure you tell them they have to beat your rate if they want a shot at the business.
YOU GUYS ROCK👍
Is whether or not you will use a dealer's service department a viable bargaining chip?...if so,when should that be brought into the process? #TheHomeworkGuy
Great video!
I finally found a car! After about fifteen dealerships. I followed your tutelage, but I still had to budge just a little. I did have to pay a market adjustment. But it was half of what they asked, and it wasn’t $5000 like some dealers were asking.
@@tgf5652 define “better”.😝
The answer either way though is yea and no.
After action report:
Good: Got to test drive several cars to find the one I wanted.
@@tgf5652 thankya. All told, I saved about $2-5k, just on markups alone. Probably double that in add-ons.
@@tgf5652 thankya! And thankya Kevin and the amazing Elizabeth! YOU guys rock!
Good for you. Enjoy your new ride!
Thanks for sharing such a great story. It is quite interesting to see all the elements unfold around you on a dealer lot when you know the game. You paid good attention to the videos, and it paid off. Well done! You made our day!
Is there a way to avoid paying the OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT/OTHER price if the vehicle is 3+ years old and used?
Thanks so much for your work.
How many miles a new car should have to be still considered new?
Thank you
So helpful!!
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
AMAZING
Great info, thanks. What do you say to that dealer when they refuse to budge on their ridiculous doc fees of $799 + ?
We uploaded an abbreviated outline of the FTC Regs for Dealers like that. You'll find it on our website: thehomeworkguy.com
When you present the documents to the dealer, you ask "Have you heard of the FTC?" and then add, "You're behaving just like the dealers the FTC describes in this outline!" You need to also finish with "Take the Fee off or I'll file an FTC complaint." See our video "Lillian defeats a car salesman and a Finance Officer" She executed this strategy perfectly.
WOW very interesting super kool ,1st class great info.,, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.
@@atharn6324
I live in Massachusetts and the dealers here all say they have to charge by law everyone the same doc fee.
Any advice?
No, not right now
Loved this one. Send a tip to your PayPal btw. We appreciate you
#thehomeworkguy I'm shocked at the the cash value I found through Kelly Blue book and Canadian black book up here in Canada.
Yup yup! Putting down a bunch to get a leg up in the first year of depreciation.
Super appreciated & Outstanding I Thank you 💯💯💯💯💯💯🎉
You are so welcome
I have a question how are used cars losing value yet i see them being sold for the same price of a new car, even more.
I saw a used 2021 toyota corolla for 35k, and the new 2023 hybrid for about 24k.
Great information - thanks much
Why don’t you buy the Gap insurance? Do you get it afterwards, separately?
Is there a such thing as administration fee and should I pay that?
Nice job on awareness thanks
Thanks for the information 👍
No problem 👍
Also, you never buy warranties or GAP?
Never have, never will.
Do this applies to buy and/or financing a semi tractor/truck?
I can do the cash route but it won't help you improve your credit rating. Unless our credit is already at 800 or we are in our 60s or 70s, it's not a good idea, especially if the loan has more than 2.9% interest. I am looking to buy a $31000 car with $4000 trade in, $7k. Down, 0% for 60 months to have a $350 month payment with option to prepay.
Last time I declined Gap insurance the guys got so mad that he walked out and another guy had to finish the sale 😂 ..
Dealers love their GAP even when a customer doesn't need it.
Feel better buddy
Get well soon Kevin!
Well said!
