    We had two growing up; one named Jenny, though we called her Moose, who was already old when I was born and crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 16 years old when I was 6. We got another puppy, Ranger, about a year before that. They were both black and white, extremely friendly and loving. Ranger loved to lay next to the fireplace and would get so hot he'd be panting and we'd have to drag him away! He also loved the piano and whenever one of us played he'd lay under the piano bench. He was fantastic, though Ranger had quite the set of jowls and you'd want a towel around after a big drink of water! Ranger crossed the Rainbow Bridge when he was 14 in 2005. I still have framed pictures of him all around the house. Springers are such great companions, you couldn't ask for a better family dog.

    I’m no hunter, and I’m older in a smallish home, so I wanted a dog with energy dialed back from a Springer & got an English Cocker. Until the 1920s, they used to come out of same litters & were labelled by size. He’s a wonderfully smart bench English Cocker, with huge personality, soaks up English including names of people & dog friends, and as one hunter observed, is demonstrably “fit for purpose”. Loyal, lovey dovey, when appropriate.

    Adorable little pup. My mum has one (we're in aussie), a field variety.
    I stayed with mum for about 12 months and her Springer Molly absolutely fell in love with me.
    She even got clingy and jealous of human females if she could tell if there was some interest from me.
    Mum started calling her "Wifey". "Are you taking wifey to the shops??"
    One game we used to play was, catch a fly from the window throw a blanket over Molly and then throw the fly in the blanket with her so she could catch it. Reall killers the ESS.

They are happiest when you give them lots of attention and exercise. You made a very good choice!

    I'm on my 5th field springer and I have to disagree about the people oriented aspect. I think it really depends on the owner socializing either type early on. I've known three or four bench springers that friends had and they were all very shy, weary of strangers, and would bark bloody murder. Mine is 8 months and she's barked a handful of times, never at people just during play. All mine were snuggle bugs and if anyone laid down with them the dog had to always be touching them with some part of their body. Hope yours is doing well.

      Lol. She wasn’t biting him, just nibbling. Puppies rarely bite hard but the needle teeth hurt. Had several springer pups over the years that wanted to chew on your fingers and toes constantly and didn’t seem to learn not to do that- and all of a sudden around 8-9 months old they “got it” and you couldn’t get them to bite you for any reason after that. It’s just part of teething I think.

  • @theofarmmanager267
    @theofarmmanager267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve had sprocket or springer spaniels for decades. They are, for me, the ideal dogs but there are a few things to note. Firstly, they require constant exercise and mental stimulation. They are not goods dogs if you can’t walk them for miles each day. They also don’t know when to stop - you do really have to be careful about over walking particularly when they are puppies. The long ears are prone to infection- it’s easily treated if caught early. Docking the tail is illegal in the UK except for true working dogs and health reasons.
    Don’t buy any puppy unless you can see it with its mother and, preferably, father and siblings from the same litter. Dog stealing is rampant over here with violence not uncommon to steal a dog away whilst out walking with its owner. These stolen dogs are put into cages and made to breed constantly. The chips that all dogs must and should have ought to help in getting stolen dogs home but some of these b*s*a*d* have taken to digging out the chip with a knife. So don’t let your dog out of your sight particularly when there are other people around.

    • @johnnyg1933

    • @MissTupsy
      @MissTupsy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep......they also look a little different. IO has more spots than a typical bench. Benches are usually almost all brown without a lot of specking. Both are super smart. I had both of mine house trained in a week! But the field dogs are a little more athletic. Either way you can't go wrong. Great family dogs and if you want a loyal dog to the end.....get a springer. They live to please their owners.
