Here is a small story about the firecrackers. It’s said that there was a monster called 年獸 in mandarin. It lived in mountains. came out and ate people only in the period of lunar new year. This situation bothered people a lot, and one day people found the monster scared loud sound and was afraid of red color, so they started to set off firecrackers and pasted red paper on the door.
I'm Chinese Malaysian. We celebrate Chinese New Year exactly the same as Mainland Chinese. We get red envelopes from our parents and elderly relatives. We called it "angpow" which means 红包 in mandarin. We do play fireworks and firecrackers. We don't eat dumplings but we eat mandarin orange. 🧧🧨 🍊
