Truly sorry for your loss, it just shows you of how this masterpiece hits the right spot for so many people, the direction, the music, you name it. I became a father myself not that long ago and it makes this game even more perfect than it already is. This moment, the ambiance, the voice acting it was flawless (granted the whole thing was but this moment shook me to the core). You can feel the pain when he says "I know," feel again the burning of the chains as they ignite again. But then, the resolve as he steps up and once again reaffirms his choices before doing what must be done.
Should watch the documentary they did "Raising Kratos" Chris Judge really felt that part. It was probably the strongest moment for him playing Kratos.

IKR? I'm literally crying, it was gorgeous. Good thing that I can watch it again and again until its back (only watch, for I'm too poor for a PS4).
Its crazy, i have a ps4 but i spoiled it for myself because i didnt think i'd like the game from the adverts, but omg its soo good. I really hope atreus (spoiler) doesn't act like marvel's loki. i hope they do him justice.. they also better not kill off kratos, hes wayyyy too cool.
Chloe Nah, seeing the background this is creating, Atreus probably will suffer a great loss or see plenty of injustice from the Aesir, enough to push him to, like his father, buy a war with them. But unlike slaying everyone with his own hands, he probably will be cunning and play his cards like the prophecies foretold - him, his children, and the events set in motion by himself will deliver the Ragnarok that is already beginning. The Dökkálfar invading Álfheimr, Loki killing Baldur, it's all on the Poetic Edda. The end is coming and Loki probably will be a great avenger of all those forgotten by the Gods... The will lay the path for the end of the world. :)

The name that Atreus found on the walls of Jotunheim is inscribed "Loki", the name of which the giants and Faye call him. It was considered by his mother until she allowed Kratos to simply name the child "Atreus".

I thought it was amazing that Cory Barlog won Game of the Year for this game! It's absolutely astonishing! I have beaten this game 6 times and I still love it! All the life lessons in it and the relationship between Kratos and Atreus! I have some MAJOR theories about future games that make a lot of sense if you want to open up a discussion about it.

@@swooshieblooshie6083 Well, did you ever notice that in the final boss fight with Baldur, when Atreus called for Jormungandr, his eyes were glowing gold. Like how Mimir's and Tyr's are gold but are also jewels. What I am thinking that Atreus will be a Tyr like figure who is going to end up causing Ragnarok with his oldest sons and daughter.
Now that we know that Atreus is Loki God of Mischief, here are some interesting things that would make a lot of sense for future games...
First is that in actual Norse Mythology, Loki is father to Jormungandr (The World Serpent), Fenrir (the giant wolf that is chained with invisible chains and who will consume Odin come Ragnarok), and Hel, or Hela, Goddess of Death and ruler of Helheim. It is said that Loki and his three oldest children from Angrboda (a giantess warrior) will cause Ragnarok and the destruction of the Aesir gods.
Another thing is that, in the game, Kratos' wife Faye was a giantess whose actual name is Laufey the Just. She was always causing trouble for the Aesir and thwarting their plans for certain things. Thor was always trying to find Laufey in order to fight and kill her but he was never able too. In Norse Mythology, Loki's father was named Faubauti who was considered a "giant with godly powers" or a "titan" even though titans do not exist in Norse Mythology. They do in Greek Mythology though.
To be technical, titans do have godly powers in Greek Mythology. They can be born from both gods and/or humans with gods. This can also make them demi-gods. So, like I stated above, Faubauti was a "giant with godly powers." Kratos is somewhat of a giant in his own way who does have god like powers. He is a godly so this makes him Faubauti. We know that is not his actual name, but maybe Laufey, or Faye, called Kratos that to her people because she may not have known his actual name at the time.
At the end of the game, while Atreus and Kratos were in Jotunheim, we all saw that Kratos saw on the wall what he may have thought was his own death. But, what if it isn't? If you take a closer look, Kratos is missing half of his right arm. What I'm thinking is that both Kratos and Atreus will fight some of the Aesir. As a result, Kratos gets mortally wounded, but does not die. Remember, Kratos has actually died at least 5 times already and every time, he comes back. This means that he is a true immortal, or that he is more immortal than most.
Also, do you remember when Mimir said when you come back from Jotunheim that the Hauldra brother took and uncomfortable about of measurements and then proceeded to bicker about the weather? Well, I'm pretty sure that they will be making Mimir a new body. This would be extremely helpful to everyone because that would mean that Mimir would be able to fight with Atreus and Kratos. I think that he will end up staying allies with them and assisting them throughout the rest of the series.

Interestingly enough, he did already. In the original myth, Ragnarok is first set in motion when Loki schemes to get Baldr killed. Baldr, in the original myth, is like, the perfect dude ever. Pretty, kind, charming, humble, the whole shebam. His mom has literally every thing in the 9 realms swear never to harm him. Except Mistletoe, nobody invites Mistletoe because mistletoe is young and nobody thinks about it. I really like GoW's version of this better. And I like Baldr as a flawed, broken soul much better. There isn't much about Baldr in the original myths, his only relevant role is dying.
Loki tricks Baldr's blind brother, into shooting a Mistletoe arrow at Baldr, mortally wounding him. Baldr is sent to Helheim. The gods are very upset with Loki obviously. But they go to Hel (Loki's daughter btw) and request of her that she releases Baldr. But rules are rules, she won't. At least, she won't unless all living things (or just gods? Have to check) petition in favor of doing so. Everybody does! Except one person, who is actually Loki in disguise. Thus, Baldr will remain trapped in Helheim because Hel's condition was not met.
At this point, the gods are pissed at Loki. Go look up "The Binding of Loki" to see how pissed. Spoiler: Pretty pissed. This is the start of Ragnarok proper.
Soon follows the Fimbulwinter, one of the first telling signs of Ragnarok. This is why the Dwarves measure a bunch and talk about the weather. Because while you were in Jotunheim, Fimbulwinter has started. Normally, 3 winters pass before the big winter, but it is noted in GoW that it has come much earlier than it should (100 winters or so, if I recall Mimir correctly), so what's 3 years at this point? AND THUS, things are set in motion, with Baldr's death. (Which if you noticed, was brought about by Loki and a mistletoe arrowhead! Nice touch!)
So yeah. Atreus won't end up *causing* Ragnarok. It is more accurate to say that he did, already. ;)
I really liked the Farbauti detail too! Since Farbauti is associated with wildfire and a cruel killer. Fits Kratos like a glove, tbh. So the parralel is great. They really nailed the subtle details.
Edit with more speculations: As a bonus, we can already tell that things are going to depart from the original Ragnarok, since there are a few survivors, namely Thor's sons, who then inherit his hammer (Ragnarok being an accepted and well known truth by the gods, this is probably what Mogi refers to when he returns to you talking about how he was supposed to inherit it deservingly but now people will just think he's getting it by default, because his brother is dead). But uh, yeah. These two aren't going to make it through, yeah?
I think Kratos will be dragged into things. The Aesir will come. For him or the boy. The Aesir have a weird habit of taking adoptive sibblings. Perhaps this is why Thor shows up. He needs a replacement for his sons? I dunno.
Either way, I wouldn't mind Kratos dying this time. Kratos has changed, his purpose has changed. Atreus is probably the only thing he would die for. But he can't, not yet. He has to be sure, sure that Atreus will not be him, that he will be better than him, not controlled by his rage. Once that's done, Kratos will be fulfilled. I think it'll make sense that he dies? Permanently? Heh probably not. But this will be the critical trigger for Atreus.
Atreus would then take the remaining Jotuns, namely, most of them his kids (in the original myth.. still weird how they are in the GoD version, too) and confront the Aesir.
And then the world ends.
But Ragnarok is not the end. The original myth tells that a world(s) is born anew from the destroyed Yggdrasil. Interestingly enough, one of the place in this new world is tied to/named Sindri. Hmm? Also interesting in the original myth is that apparently, of the ones who come rule/watch over this new world, is Baldr.
If GoW makes it that far with the myths, it could interesting to see Baldr have a redemption. After all, he has his feelings back, everything he knew gone. A chance at the life he was robbed of.
Personally, I'd like that for Baldr. I really like this Baldr, he's insane, menacing and yet relatable. Even if you can't relate to his problem directly, they aren't hard to empathize with. The only thing I really fault him for is deciding that "Oh wow, I have my feelings back!" doesn't instantly lead him to the decision of "Fuck this fight, I am going to go FUCKING ENJOY THIS". Like really. I guess any thrill was intoxicating to him, including a fight he could actually die in. And feel pain in.

As I was working I listened to the entirety of this soundtrack, and the entirety of Red Dead 2's soundtrack, which won for best score/soundtrack. Red dead was a hell of a game, but I'm playing through it a second time, as I did God of War. It's one of those games that I can play over and over again. There's only a few songs that stood out to me in Red Dead. Playing through the second time, I listened more and appreciated a few more songs. God of War? Entirely different story. Since my first run of the game, the music had a grip on me. It really set the mood throughout the whole game. From the sad mourning hums that start the game off, to the intensity and "Godly" sound of the Deliverance song. I love Red Dead, but I feel God of War deserved the best score/soundtrack instead of Red Dead. God of War's music gripped you, commanded you to listen as you played. Red Dead has taken me a second play through to appreciate the soundtrack more. Both games are games that I know I'll find nostalgic 10+ years later in my life.

1:10:30 This is easily one of my favorite tracks in the game. It is absolutely beautiful and combined with the ending makes up for one of the most amazing conclusions to a story in gaming history.

It's an odd feeling, I watched this games story through youtube, I have never played and yet I still feel it's the greatest single player game ever made. an OST can make or break a game. Echoes of an Old Life hit me right in the feels

My attitude hasn't changed. After finishing the game I can definitely say it is the best single player game I have played.

At 52:08 : The amount of Pavlovian relief I felt listening to that audio cue was uncanny.
The moment Kratos hands over the Mother's ashes to Atreus that's where it hit me, all the journey, all the knowledge gained, everything was for this moment. Atreus just wanted to be the one carrying his mother and that moment gave me chills, and the music made it even more epic. This game is a pure masterpiece, legendary. One example of a franchise that never lets you down. God of War is just.. I don't even know, just perfect.

The soundtrack has many fantastic leitmotifs that kick absolute ass. But, the one I think I resonate with the most is main melody of Memories of Mother. It just crescendos with such majesty that it's hard to suppress any feelings that come from listening to it. Bear McCreary really did outstanding work here.
Agreed. Also Mimir is pretty on the mark for how his character is introduced then expanded then later retroactively given emotional weight.

Finally got to play through this game this year and man the whole soundtrack is incredible but Memories of Mother is truly beautiful and is really the track that has stuck with me since playing it. Love this game and series! Ragnarok is coming...

@shotumn Not at all. For a lot of ppl, this game was a soft reboot. And during the whole game, you only hear about Kratos's past a bit at a time. So nope the blades weren't that obvious.
