She actively discussed the “these things are only combined for a wedding. Unless maybe quinceanera or a sliver of bat mitzvahs” (these parents, like the “Family Guy” ones, could probably miss either the one you can reasonably have your phone pencil in while still in the delivery room. Aim for no other plans either the weekend before or after. It’d be a miracle in that simple but… finishing studies isn’t a exact besides family travel stuff but this is off topic.
Her aunties (I have heard this from another teller and not there yet on this play so whomever actually did the dress/food/lodging-out-of-towners/how-open-a-bar/registry stuff) wouldn’t indulge someone over 8 with that (graduating seniors get the fraction that applies).
They not only had no excuse they managed a rare negative quantity of excuse even if the paper invite left the chat…

  • @nleem3361

If my daughter was engaged, I'd be asking about the date and offering to help. The parents never ever asked about it. Then they ignored a physical invitation and text (can't imagine either of my parents ignoring a text from me). Then they said they had a game to go to instead of asking for more info about the event. The parents are nuts and the brother has become so entitled he thinks it's ok to steal. She is not the a.h. and don't blame her for limiting contact.
Congratulations to op and making delicious lemonade out of dried up lemons.
People don't have to understand. Some folks try to become peace makers, but don't realize you shouldn't decorate a bush on fire until the fire's been put out. The parents maybe guilty, but more likely they just want to feel better, so they can go back to their unhealthy normal and quit having people judge them, but their actions are terrible.

OP needs to cut ties with those parents, they are abusive to her, and not people she and her new husband should want even around any future grandkids, and they didn't deserve the invite let alone for any follow up effort to make sure they knew, but they made a consious choice and she was rewarded for being the bigger person with them finally having any consequences for their actions whatsoever. The parents and brother are very unsafe for her, and possibly her husband to be around at all.

My sisters missed my wedding because it was a Covid elopement and they were both out of the state and couldn't get there. One of them cried. The other didn't seem to care at all, but par for the course, we've never gotten along and I don't think she would have come if she could. She didn't come to my reception a year later, didn't RSVP either now that I think of it. She was the spoiled one growing up, but at least my parents don't play favorites anymore and they came to both my wedding and the reception. These parents ought to be ashamed of themselves!!

Not sure if it's been pointed out yet in a comment (and it will probably be in the update) but the brother ended up getting rid of the invite behind the parents' back b c he didnt want to share them, and then the parents weren't paying attention whenever OP brought up the wedding, thinking she meant something else? I don't quite remember what.
Then the brother dogpiled on her to cover up his misdeeds, so the parents wouldn't know he knew.

Its so satisfying to hear an abuser get humbled and publically shamed ❤ Its so sad that it went on this long, and OP will never not be hurt by the way they've been treated. This kind of obsessive son-favoring behavior hurts families for generations. NC on Reddit is usually No Contact. Now that everyone knows the truth and you have your husband and in-laws to help support you, OP needs to leave them permanently in the past. And your earlier comment about wanting them to be grandparents to any children- Would you want these people to be grandparents to your children?

My brother for real developed a personality disorder, and I truly believe it was the effect of being utterly spoiled, being allowed to bully and escape consequences, and being constantly told he was so very smart and special. He is smart. He isn’t particularly kind, hard-working or responsible, and abandoned two children by the time he was 40.

I can’t imagine how any one could possibly “make up” from missing a WEDDING. I mean that’s kinda a big deal. Don’t know that there’s anything that anyone could do to rectify missing such a huge event in someone’s life. On the other hand, it sounds like OP and her husband were far happier NOT having the toxicity around them on their big day. She didn’t miss anything by not having them there.

  • @brookie_cheers

    Yes Jamie, need the update!
Also.... as for someone who has had a significant amount of family dysfunction, abuse, etc., as well as cut off a majority of my family (Including parents)... I just want to say to OP, you are not alone, I'm sorry, and there are people who will support you in distancing yourself from your family. God says to respect your parents yes, but if it is causing you to sin in other areas, then you really are not honoring God (Treat your body as a temple, and taking in toxicity isn't doing this or allowing you to become the person God designed you to be)... In other words... How much poison do you take before you die? If your family has harmed you, you are not living abundantly. Let this "cut off" bring them closure to the Lord and I'll be praying this situation turns to good in Jesus name!

Her family all suck, apart from her grandpa. I don't understand why she wants any relationship with them. I'd do what they do and put in zero effort - go no contact. Her mum and bro are awful and her dad's frankly not much better. Growing a backbone at this point is too little too late. They're not sorry they were crap to her for her entire life, they're sorry they're being called out on it publically

So even though it's for different reasons, it's not likely my parents will attend my wedding slash and fasting either. Hey Jamie, just an FYI for the next time you do a video like this: having a trigger warning for parental abuse would be really helpful for your viewers. I understand you didn’t realize where this story was going, but once you did, adding a trigger warning in the beginning would be so helpful to viewers going through issues of their own, so they can decide whether or not they are in a good mental space to watch. I love your content and have been watching since I got engaged in 2019 (I had a COVID wedding in 2020 and still watch your content). Just offering some food for thought for the next time you post more sensitive content 😊

I think the point is they knew what was happening and chose to ignore it and then plead ignorance because she hadn't pushed them to go (exactly right on her part, you shouldn't have to continually remind your parents to attend your wedding)

    • @lizajane2971
      @lizajane2971 หลายเดือนก่อน

She sent them an invitation!! I assume that it was a wedding invitation 🤦‍♀️ as she sent the same one to other guests. She sent them a follow up text to ask if they were coming and got no response. She tried to talk to them about it and talked with other family in front of them about it in the year leading up to it and they pretended not to notice. She asked them in person if they were coming on such and such date (when she presumably didn't mention it was her wedding) and they said no, that her event wasn't as important as her brother's game! They 100% knew what they were doing. They knew about the wedding and when it was and snubbed their daughter. They just thought they wouldn't get backlash and were mistaken.

    • @lonelyronin2428

They probably tune out as soon as she's mentioned. They clearly don't care about her. Going as far as to talk over her, missing every event in her life, and even assume any talk of her wedding was a lie & a grab for her mom's attention.
