Also to the people here remember: Squier CV basses or any of their stuff in general is a hit or miss mainly when you buy it online, I heavily recommend going to a guitar store to try one and the ones at guitar stores are usually very good as they are already set up and well adjusted! If only there was more color options for the 70s P Bass
Been eyeing both these for a while. I do prefer the warmer sound of the 60s but the 70s just looks so cool. I'm just as torn as before. Guess I'll just need to wait until we can actually go to shops again (still in lockdown here in Scotland) and see which one speaks to me the most.

My favorite thing about the CV60’s tone was pickstyle at 100% tone, there is a discernable low-mid growl after the initial attack. With the CV70 it just sounded…dry.
Both basses will pretty much sound the same in a song mix especially when you have Equalizers. Just buy the bass that feels most comfortable with your hands and feel.
No mention of the aftermarket bridge you have installed on the '70s bass? And I think it is also worth mentioning that the binding and inlays on the '70s base are only decals under the gloss finish, not actual binding or inlay.

...the bridge on the 70’s model is noticeable and I submit it’s a worthwhile improvement. The 70’s model is my choice. But, to hear that that the blocks and binding are only decals? switched my DeeDee Ramone signature body with the 70s CV body and its the best bass i've ever owned. the Fender body wasnt sounding right and i even stopped playing it until i did the switch.
I'm sorry but to my ears and with your mix and playing I could not differentiate a discernible difference in the tone of the basses. Close your eyes people and try to tell which bass is which. Aesthetics aside they are so similar in tone as to not make a big difference, especially if used in a live setting. So which bass looks good to you? Buy that one. Or get both! Personally I would look for a used MIM and Hot- rod it to my preference.

Disagree completely.. The 60s sounds noticeably better. Not just on this review/video but other youtube reviews/comparisons seem to have the same consensus.
Enjoyed your comparison video and I also would go with the 70's. The one thing I noticed is that it seems to have higher mass bridge than the 60's. But around the 6:50 mark you show a picture of it and it seems to have the smaller mass/"standard" Fender bridge. So I'm curious which it would come with if I bought one today. Rock on!

As with most P Basses, from the Affinity series all the way to Custom Shop basses, there is virtually no difference in sound from one P Bass to another. I used to have the fiesta red 60's version, and it was a nice bass, but I'd take the 70's. The slightly slimmer neck is going to be easier to play, the color is more unique, and the headstock logo is cooler, IMO. The Squier tortoise pickguards are atrocious. I know they can be swapped out, but that's more $$, and this is an out-of-the-box contest.
I like both colours of the head stocks. I think toastie maple is cool, the olive oil wood colour is also handsome. If I was to choose. I’d choose the ***** ****** one. Ahhhh. It’s a secret. Keep on cheersin. ;) see ya next time

Yeah second listen there's a little more bottom end in the 60s Bass. I have to say that these videos are some of the best thought out comparison videos I've seen, keep up the good work.
I tried both at a shop and liked the looks of the 60s but the playability of the 70s. The 60s bass just seemed to have more tension and rattled at the frets a bit while the 70s felt slinky and had no buzz unless hit really hard
I was trying to hear the difference in tone that you describe; but honestly, what I think I'm hearing is a _slightly_ louder signal on the '60s P recordings. (Which could be caused by a few things - I'm not suggesting it must be the reviewer's error.) It's just enough difference to influence our perception of tone. (Just my interpretation...) At any rate, everyone's advised to try these in person, if possible. You may just fall for a specific unit, regardless of which decade's in its name.
Who you like Jamerson or Nate Watts.. lol.. choose accordingly.. The 70's have more modern applications the 60's although richer in tone is pretty limited.. if its gonna be your main bass, 70's if you in a Motown cover band 60's
The 60s p bass have has a bit of warmer sound which is exactly what I would want . I actually am writing this at almost the same time you said it yourself . Plus it has a thicker neck . Which makes the 60s p gives it the win for me .Even though aesthetically the 70s vibe is really beautiful .
I’m 64 years old, I haven’t touched a bass guitar since high school (mid 1970’s). I just retired last month, and I’m going to order a new one, now that I have tons of free time to practice, and take lessons. I’ve narrowed it down to the CV 60’s, and CV 70’s. I had a branded Fender P back in 1975, which I bought new for $375. I’m going with the 60’s version because of the body wood. I’ve actually never heard of nato wood that the 70’s version is made of. Is this comparable to the poplar that the 60’s is made of?
They’re both quality tonewoods and do a great job. Poplar is a great alternative to Alder, which is very common in Fender made products. Nato wood is an alternative to Mahogany, a much denser style of wood producing lower and thumpier sounds. In short, ones not necessarily better than the other, they are just different! I'm a huge fan of block inlays, as I normally play Fender J basses and they both have block inlays. I have a 70s Vintera Jazz and a Geddy Lee Jazz and love both. I'm looking to add a budget P bass, and I have been looking at these. Thanks for the great video
I don't have any disagreements with you good sir. I believe the 70s style precision definitely has a better look. The 60s P does have more of that vintage/warmer tone (no doubt/not the band). Based on what I heard I would go with the 60s. However I'd go with the 70s precision bass. For fact that brighter tone would make it more versatile for slap pop style, Rock and especially Heavy Metal. Also I can always dial in a bass to give it a warmer sound. By means of string types, amp settings (rolling off the treble) bass tone control etc. However it's very difficult to make an organically warm sounding bass make sound brighter. Only my humble opinion of course. To be honest if I got that 60s style p I wouldn't give it back. I've played both basses at G.C. to be honest and honestly the major selling point is the 70s P feels better in my hands. Anyway great, thorough review. I saw this video I believe about a year ago if I recall correctly. You really nailed a lot of the details.

But hey man if you want top notch high level quality because it's not only about how nice the instrument looks for me that's just 15 to 20% the other 80% is how well it sounds and plays check out the Sire - Marcus Miller V7 Vintage Alder 2nd Gen J Bass. It costs about 530 euros and will hold it's own easily against a Fender American Ultra Jazz Bass no problem for a third of the price. I kid you not!
I listened well and with excellent headphones, the test. I don't know if the difference in sound between the two basses is also due to the hi-mass bridge you installed on the cv70 (you should have been careful to leave it with its original bridge for this test; as instead test is quite incorrect!) but to my ears the CV60 sounds much much better: sound much more defined, with a nice growl and also with an excellent midrange while the CV70 even better in aesthetics, neck etc erc, it sounds "boring" "flat "and with very little personality!

Weird that the 60's and 70's have the "same pickup?" The 60's ones I tried sound so different from the 70's one I recently got. Loving it. HUGE rich sound.
I'm really leaning toward that 70s classic vibes. The roasted maple gives it an incredible look. Throw in some new pots, and some EMG Geezer pickups, and it will be an affordable version of Lakland.

Im torn between the 70s P bass and the 70s J bass, how is the neck between those two?
They’re both quite thin - but the Jazz bass will be slightly slimmer again. Hope that helps!
P Bass is generally a better bass overall especially for song mixes. If you’re into soloing than a J bass would probably be better.

There is a difference but in a song mix either bass can sound almost identical especially with equalizers. Pick the bass that feels most comfortable.

I have the 70’s bass and love the slightly honky compressed mid-range tone - it sounds great in a mix, especially for post-punk, rock or pop.
The pickups sound just as good as other popular brand names. Squire did a good job
