Earlier this evening I was watching a shootout of the 60s vs 70s so this makes a three-way. I listened mostly through headphones but interestingly through the cellphone speaker the 50s bass comes across better implying that the 70s has less upper-mids. The 60s definitely had the Jamerson vibe. Tough decision because I thought I needed the classic P bass sound to go along with my jazz basses but the 50s has so much character I think it's the one I would buy.
I bought the same blonde 50s P bass last year. I love the chunky neck, I’m not a fan of skinny necks and I love the single coil tone. More growl and maybe too bright. I strung it with flats and it now sounds pretty much perfect. I agree with the pickguard - I’m considering getting an gold anodised pickguard made for it.
A few people have told me that they e put flats on there. I’ll have to give it a go, in my head it sounds like a great idea. Gold on white blonde would be super slick! Thanks for watching
That's what I needed! I really would like to see 60's vs 70's comparison instead of Telly 70's Precision shoot out but still - this is a legit comparison.
Thanks Hubert! At the time of filming there wasn’t any 60’s CV basses available in Australia. Stocks starting to come back, so hopefully I can do something soon
Recently I started to learn bass and I was attracted to P-basses because of Queen. And then I found that Squier Classic Vibe 50/60/70s are cool for beginners, but I couldn’t recognise differences much. But this video helped me a lot to compare them. Thank you for your effort to make this good video. I think I’ll get one soon. 😊
Thanks for the kind words Jose! When I’m editing this video I always wonder if viewers will get annoyed at my weird accent one day. Thanks for watching!
I’m a converted Pbass 51 dude now, I used the 57 P bass most of my music career till I got a 55 P bass and that was a now way back, all the clarity, brightness, rawness and bite that I was always trying to unveil from a 57 humbucker I got it in spades on a 55 single coil that I have to tame it, it easier to tame and cut trebles than get something that is not there by nature, the hum is manageable with proper wiring and shielding and good pickups like lindy fralins and if I want the low mids i just roll off the treble control and turn bass up on my amp, Love it love it love it my 51 and 55 P’s, now I almost used my 57-60s for deep sound with flats or tapes but for edgy roundwound tone the single coils is raw as F…
Love the squier 50s p bass. I have the sunburst version. Its awesome !!! The pickup is still stock but sounds pretty good itself has an old vintage tone. Cool video. BTW!!!!
Great vid and comparison however I disagree with a couple things... I just bought a Sunburst CV 50 P and own several other p basses. Loved the tone comparison but disagree with the analysis. the single coil is a bit thinner and has more attack than the split coil which is fatter and smoother.. but you had nice sound samples that showed that... I find The split coil is also more versatile as it it more sensitive to where you pick or pluck, as in close to the neck or close to the bridge..Both great basses
That’s cool! I’m glad we can agree that they’re both awesome basses. Congratulations on the new purchase, I was really looking around for the Sunburst but its no surprise they were all sold out - they’re beautiful. Thanks for watching!
Yep it’s called a ‘tugger’. In the early days of the electric bass, many players would pluck with their thumb and rest their fingers underneath the plastic rest. *Almost* tugging with their fingers with every thumb pluck.
What is the little tug bar for? Is it purely for vintage aesthetic? And how is the player meant to rest their thumb without a pick-up placed further back toward the bridge? Is it meant to be plucked with a ‘freestyle’ right hand, not resting anywhere? Thanks
Originally we played with the thumb to get power u used the tug bar to pull from with the fingers, imagine monkey bars on the playground! 4 fingers on thumbs free!
I tried to get a 60’s CV P Bass for the channel last year but was waiting for stock to arrive in Australia. It’s been ordered, and should be here next month!
Hi Kenneth, my set up is a TC Electronic BAM200 through an Ampeg 2x10 sealed cab. What you’re hearing is a blend of DI and microphone. There’s no pedals or plugins. Hope that helps!
Word word! I knew I was hearing some processing on the bass and being that amp sim and cab sims being so popular I thought it was that. Turns out to be that I was hearing an actual amp and cab. Aight mah dude good video. Cheers.
I just got the `60`s and the `50`s model. Both are fantastic. I changed to flat strings though. The necks are very easy to adjust with the bridge. I like the tone about 75% to the treble side and it`s tits!
Like the video. Maybe you should try a comparison with the Squire Jazz Basses. I have both the CV70's Jazz and P bass. The P bass neck is not nearly as thin as the Jazz. That 50's model must use a baseball bat.
I ordered a CV60’s Jazz Bass, and when it arrived the body had been cracked in transit unfortunately. I do plan on doing a Classic Vibe Jazz bass review and comparison, but it will rely on stock being available in Australia. The 50’s model has a thicker neck in comparison, but is much much thinner than an original. Thanks for watching!
Man I need another 50s style bass back in my life! That pickup sounds great. Amazing editing on this man, great job!
It really is a fun bass! Surprised at how unique it sounds (and feels) to the more common style of precision bass. Thanks for watching Jonny!
The 50s one does it for me, both in terms of looks & tones.
So much more lively & characterful.
I can see why Sting uses one!
Nice choice! Thanks for watching
Finally! Someone who loves glossy maple necks as much as I do!
Cheers!
They’re so smooth and fast to play! Thanks for watching

@@marksvideochannel3592 Good news - I released a 60’s vs 70’s Precision Bass comparison a few weeks ago. Head over to my channel to check it out!!

Big ups
Thank you George! That means a lot!
I have CV 70s and I'm really impressed. I mainly play punk and a little bit of metal and this bass has everything I need. I love it!
It’s such a great bass - getting a lot of use from me now that gigs are back!
the 50s just looks awesome. its my dream bass
Is there anything better than bass videos reviewed by a nice guy with Aussie accent? I don't believe it.
Great content mate!
Thanks for the kind words Jose! When I’m editing this video I always wonder if viewers will get annoyed at my weird accent one day. Thanks for watching!
Of course not man! I actually love the aussie accent.
Have you got Instagram or any social network where I can follow you?
Not for the review channel I don’t, but I’ll be releasing music this year. You can find me at @_maybesitter
The 50's is pretty.
It certainly turns a lot of heads!
@Bethlehem Eisenhour why shouldn’t you play with a pick? Shouldn’t the person be able to play in whatever style they want to?
@Bethlehem Eisenhour oh ok. Sorry for the trouble. Have a nice day

I've got a '70s one but I prefer the sound of the '50s.
I'd like to hear a similar comparison with flatwound.
Brillant vid...im not a real bass player but im enjoying my black 70s CV...wondering if the 50s would be better for rock eg with distortion
Those are both sweet. Close call. I do love the 50s vibe though.
Love the squier 50s p bass. I have the sunburst version. Its awesome !!! The pickup is still stock but sounds pretty good itself has an old vintage tone. Cool video. BTW!!!!
The sunburst is really cool! It reminds me of the godfather of thumpy bass tone - Sting. Thank you so much for watching!
Man, tone at 50% just sounds mean on any p bass. Love it. Both are awesome
Totally agree! Thanks for watching
song at 5:08?
I’m considering buying the 50’s Precision Bass, but I’m considering the Jaguar CV 70’s as well? I had a CV 70’s p and sold it after about a year.
Great review mate! Looking at a sunburst version of the 50s
Thank you! When I bought this one, the sunburst was not available. I would have loved one, just like our buddy Sting. Thanks for watching
Excellent comparison, subscribing now
Thank you for the kind words!!
Great video, I've been eyeballing the 70s walnut p-bass for a few weeks. Especially since I'm on a budget

The 70s sounds so wooly and soft compared to the 50s. Leo kinda looked into the... far future with his very first iteration.
Thanks for watching!
Great review, no bullshit.

I put a Fender Pure Vintage 64 precision bass pickup in my CV 70's Precision Bass.
Plus Flatwound strings.
I bet that beast would groove!

Aye 👍❤️🎵🎸🙂
@@willistaylor4077 how is it? i was thinkinf about it too, plus tort pickguard
I have the CV 70s Walnut, its been excellent since I unboxed it. I am thinking upgrade to hi mass bridge and V Mod pups.
Well done with the purchase, they’re an awesome bass!
You have a gotoh bridge on the 70s p so it adds sustain and deepens the tone
Good pick up on the bridge!
To me, the 50s with 50% tone sounded almost similar to the 70s on 100% tone. Just my opinion.
Interesting! Thank you for watching
Well i'm qurious what you think about the squier P Bass vibe 60's think that's the best PBass

How come the 50s pups sound so much more powerful?
There's always a price of SOME sort to pay for hum-cancelling pickups.

Thanks for watching!
I prefer the 70s pbass
Nice one Giacomo! Thanks for watching
I like them both an awful lot.
No harm in having both! Thanks for watching
Can Fender please just release an affordable bass that looks like a telecaster guitar already, it would sell like fresh kebabs
Agree, a Tele bass would be awesome. I would totally get one, and a kebab!
Fender actually did make such a bass a few years ago, but the bass didn't sell and they discontinued it.
I feel like the 50s has a bit more growl.
Pine is not heavy.
50s.
