I'm lost in a loop, Ive been watching this dudes videos for 3 hours straight bc he keep reccomending good videos to watch at the end, I dont know if I'll ever escape, tell my family i love them
1:55 I can dig the ball with my bicepts, with my shoulder *points at face* with all those different parts of my body. I dig spikes with my face all the time. I'm so happy one of my techniques finally gets mentioned in one of your videos!!
Thank you so much coach. I started playing volunteer a month ago and now I have an injured knee already and I can't practice yet but I watch your videos and I can see how many mistakes I had. I will have a stronger come back thanks to you!
Thank you coach don, you have been a great teacher to me and you have helped me improve a lot in my receiving, without you the process would have been most likely slow, thanks alot! lots of love from the Philippines
Hey Donny, good job on explaining passing here. I just have one point: I'm sorry, but I don't agree with the angles when you are closer to the baseline (when the distance to the setter/other target is bigger). When you play with a flatter angle which you suggest, you often get the problem of passing low or not in the right angle and taking away setter options, giving your teammates less time to organize or pass over the net if you want to avoid passing low. The accuracy required to getting the ball perfectly on the setters head is way bigger than, if you just pass with a 45° angle or higher but push it with much more power. Because if you do that, the ball will fall in a steaper angle onto the setters head => giving him more options. The traveling time of the ball is greater => giving your teammates more time to organize. Even if your angle or distance is off => setter can still run underneath the ball and compensate in many different ways.
Hey Coach great vid helps me a lot i can feel my passes get more consistant little by little . I was wondering if you could maybe make a video about a great diet or a list of things to eat or avoid if i want to maintain my weight or lose some and still be able to perform well in a game situation . I myself am a little bit fat and i think it would greatly improve my vertical jump if i lost around 5-10 kilos . Thanks in advance . Keep making these awesome videos :)
Hey Coach Donny, I really love your videos. I am wondering if you can do a video on how to do a dolphin dive because I think it's a really useful movement and it also looks very very cool.
Hey Coach Donny, I'm looking for a video to better explain what to do when you are receiving a ball that's too high for a bump but too low for a set. Personally I'd step to the side and do a off midline bump, but since they're still learning, they don't have that kind of reaction, so I was hoping you had another way that's more optimal for them (especially for girls)
One problem I have with a lot of these is that you give your viewers different options of how to move but you don't really show them WHEN they're appropriate to use. You should also specify passing (in serve receive) from digging (in defense). Very rarely should you ever have to cross your feet to move to a ball in serve receive seeing as there's two other people 1-2 shuffle steps away from you. The only time I could see that movement being appropriate is pursuing a serve to a corner. The other problem I see in this video is again showing how to take a ball outside midline but failing to accurately show a situation where its appropriate to take a ball outside midline. It is almost always possible/ preferable to shuffle and keep your hip and shoulder behind the ball so that WORST case scenario you overpass. The way you show here (6:30) is one step and then turning your chest AWAY from your team. While I agree that it is inevitable to take every ball in midline, I think your representation of passing outside midline is misleading.
We have a coach from India who agrees with you about this --> "almost always possible/ preferable to shuffle and keep your hip and shoulder behind the ball". Nevertheless, it's good to have Donny's angled platform method in our toolbelts on occasions when we do not have enough time to shuffle into position. Since the out-of-system situations are inevitable, Donny's video does correct a lot of the horizontal platform, slicing arms, etc. mistakes that many beginners commit.
I have been watching your videos and I find them very helpful but I would like to see a video of how to drop step and play a ball that falls behind you with little time to react.
Donny, does one track the ball all the way to their platform with their eyes? I am struggling to nail down my passing, and I don't know if I should be looking at the ball differently. I notice that with most of your passes, you track the ball with your eyes, then in the last foot of ball movement you continue to look straight ahead, then look at the target. And in other passes it appears maybe that you look at the ball the entirety of its path. I think my problems are perhaps unrelated, but I was hoping you could comment on this issue.
Hi Coach, I was trying to find a video you did maybe about a year ago about receiving tough serves/passes. You talked about what a player needed to do such as absorbing the energy, deflecting the energy, etc. and how your form should look. Do you still have that one available?
Say _yes_ coach Donny !!! Will be very useful for us in Brazil, believe me !
I have a question not much in this particular case but my float serve never across the net, I think it's because of my serving hand lacking of speed how can I create that speed in my serving hand???? what are the training techniques and drills are neccessary for flot serve????
If it's a fast strong hit to you, try to keep ur receiving formation idle and let the force be all the power you need, if it's soft raise ur arms up with some force and sometimes bend ur knees

Maybe do a video on how to react faster to balls on defense?
Experience.
Idk if you need this advice 6 years later but it really comes down to experience, your actual reaction time, and being able to read the hitter

I'm around 6 feet 2 inches tall right now and around 185 pounds so even 15 pounds would give me at least a few inches .
Still waiting for the volleyball pre game workout
