Minor point; Sarah McBride is a Representative, not a Senator. Though I think the reason this is a common error is because she was a State Senator in Delaware before winning her election to the U.S. House.
OOPS
@@_samanthaluxlmao
@@_samanthalux shit happens. We have no senators in Germany, but also representatives on country and state (Bundesland) level. There are two trans women in the federal house since the last election, also the first ones, unfortunately one of them had to face massive transphobia from the far-right-party AfD and for that doesn`t candidate again. She was a repesentative in Bavaria before.
Many influencers are upset that Sarah McBride didn't protest the policy. First off, she did push back calling out their hypocrisy by highlighting how she is working for the needs of her constituents while they engage in pettiness.
We need her to be poised eloquent and to not get into the weeds with the mean girl MTG contingent who want her to take the bait. They want her to get into the weeds with them preferably in an "its maam" style crash and burn to label her as toxicly masculine. Her rising above the fray will be seen more like MLKs peaceful legal demonstration in Chicago where he instructed his contingent to not talk back to his antagonizers. The images of the hateful retoric while he and his folllowers maintained a dignified presence was seen around the world and had a positive impact for the movement. Transpeople should do similarly going into rural areas in the south doung marches and getting it on tape for the world to see. Will there be losses. Yes. The civil rights leaders knew some would not return from the mission including MLK himself who was assassinated in 1968. He understood that you don't get anywhere without sacrifice. Since they couldn't get her to get upset about bathrooms, they will push her with male pronouns. That's when they will start looking like mean girls which will start to show people who didn't have an initial dislike of transpeople before this orchestrated hate wave these last few years, that the conservatives are engaging in manufactured outrage and that hating transpeople is the point and not some genuine concern. If she were to go into the women's room they would paint her as initiating an aggressive move which would take away the focus of their meanness when they go to plan b (pronouns) as some will think that she started it and hence deserved the misgendering.
It's really important that she be dignified. If Johnson goes as far as making her dress in the male dress code. That is covered by bostock and that's when she can disobey as he will have over played his hand and the public will start seeing the maga movement for what it is. I want him to over play his hand. Mlk counted on authorities in the south overplaying their hand.
She's the only transperson who broke through to the big show. The big show being a nationally known transwoman that will have an audience in the arena of politics. Thanks to the cis hetero corporate management combined with the dylan mulvaney boycott which caused a freeze on transwomen being hired for visible positions like news reporters , the hopes for more good trans visibility are dashed. Thats why she is extremely important. She is our Jackie Robinson. He was selected instead of Satchel Paige because too much was riding on the first black person entering the big leagues. They knew satchel was going to fight back. Jackie knew the whole weight of his race was on his shoulders and that he had to bite his lip for the first few years to not allow his antogonizers to take the focus away from his greatness as a player and a human.
Too many transwomen take the bait and become the aggressor which is exactly what the gc feminists want.
While she can stay above the fray, we can do the dirty work. Another protest Ive suggested which is different than the bensonhurst style one i describe above is for transmen trained in self defense to go into women's bathrooms in Florida which will lead to confrontation and violence to demonstrate the intrinsic flaw in the bathroom laws that don't take into consideration the social impact of transition. Again this is a completely legal protest. This also needs to be well orchestrated and put on tape for the world to see.
Sarah McBride is the first trans person to be elected to a state Senate seat :)
The same type of bathroom ban was attempted against trans representative Zooey Zephyr here in MT but the proposal failed. She's been great and stood her ground when people tried to shut her up.
snaps for AOC for calling this bs out publicly for what it is. I wish Sarah could've had the guts to stand up for her community as well instead of giving the weak canned response which just came off as cowardly to me.
Sarah McBride, as strong a courageous as she is, is still the targeted minority which has put her in a threatening situation. AOC saw that and chose to speak out in defense as a trans ally. In my view, this is one of the best ways the left could have responded (we just need more reps like AOC out there calling it out!!)
As soon as she responded with “yes absolutely” at that very moment she should have been stripped of her position and title. She is literally openly discriminating and targeting against a colleague and using her position of power only due to her on personal and religious beliefs, she has no right to be in politics and not for the betterment of her community or nation this is a personal vendetta. PERIODT!!!!!
As a trans man, I once got harassed in the bathroom because the man in the stall next to me started saying that I peed like a woman and was in the wrong bathroom. He wouldn't stop, and he made me so uncomfortable that I hid in the stall until he left. I avoid using public restrooms now unless I have to, and I get anxious every time I use the bathroom. I know I would make the women in the women's bathroom too uncomfortable. It is MISERABLE not being able to use the bathroom. All because someone cared so much about what my genitals are (I was also 16 at the time, soooo...).
I’m so sorry that happened to you. My girlfriend is trans and it’s hard to see her struggling when we go out.
I get UTI’s because I don’t go to the public bathroom.
Men don’t act like this. This is so obviously made up story 😂 😂 you think this scenario is believable?
Nancy's just mad because Sarah is prettier than her 😂
Right??? I was thinking the same thing! 😂 Beauty comes from within after all 😊
I’m so grateful for your support and good vibes through this election result. It’s not what we hoped for, but we’re still here. We’ll be strong together, especially with good leaders like you 💜
fr creators like her have kept me halfway sane!
All 3 branches of the Federal Government are Republican Majority now. And a good amount of Governors are Republican too.
We need to stay strong.
I saw some trans people on Reddit criticizing and complaining under a post about criticizing and complaining about her. She's doing her best.
Some of them act like they want her to be arrested and lose her job to protest against the unjust rules against her.
That won't do any good.
I'm just glad that she's there to do things to protest for our rights!
The director of the federal facility where I work put out an email stating that any policy that restricts bathroom access will not be enforced while he is there, and he is supported by his senior staff.
McBride's response upsets me. I get her point, but she's making the point at the expense of trans staffers and other government workers or visitors of government property. It also gives Mace the ability to say, "See, even she thinks she's a man!"
Her compliance isn't a power move for optics. It's rolling over and saying we WILL allow ourselves to be bullied.
A better response would have been something along the lines of, "I would like to apologize to their constituents that the speaker and Mace are hyper focusing on a single person and not how to put food on your table.
Having said that, I will not be compying with the speakers rules. To qoute MLK's letter in Birmingham Jail, "One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.""
I think far too many are glossing over the long term play and situation.
She said it herself, she did not run on, nor was she elected by her gender identity. With the right controlling all 3 branches is this really the hill you want the first representative to die on? What realistically can she accomplish against the speaker on this rule? Be censured, ejected or any number of other things to shut her up while still loosing the right to the rest room? She was elected to do a job, and in this climate getting her foot in the door, establishing herself and working on things for the people who put her there shows a lot of good and makes the the crazies look even more crazy.
Right now, its loose loose. But IMO, her doing the job that she was elected to do is more important. I do not see her as failing us, other trans people or any at the capital. Her going the distance gives her a better chance to fight it with more visibility over time and when there is a chance of repealing or having realistic rules put in place.
She spoke out against the rule but following means she can do her job. While the crazies were making X posts back to back she was out working with the people and THAT is good visibility that we need more of.
@@Ripskin16 I understand that. It's her move to make, and I disagree with it.
For me, her visibility means nothing if she isn't going to stand up for herself. I would much rather have her stand up for herself and be censured like Rashida Tlaib or be expelled (which would require 2/3rds of the vote, so she'd probably end up censured not expelled especially if it was just a statement and she stuck to using her office bathroom which I for sure would still critique her for but it's better than nothing imo).
If I was one of her constituents. A question I'd be asking myself right now is, "If she won't stand up for herself, why do I think she's going to stand up for me?" To add to that, I don't want to simply be seen. I want someone who will stand up for themselves and me. I feel more represented by Zooey Zephyr, who got censured in Montana for standing up for trans kids than McBride, who also isn't my representative and rolled over when an anti-trans rule came her way.
She has no power. She is outnumbered. Republicans have all the power and it's better for her to just try not to create controversy. She also seems like such a nice person. I suspect they will try to go after her, to get rid of her. This is like the circus and that woman just wants to create public arguments for public.
She keeps talking about penises as though they aren’t attached to living, breathing people.
Real it's so weird
Giving in to bullies never works. When you give in to bullies, it just gets works.
Im so proud of Sarah McBride!! Shes going to be amazing! I just hope the rest of the house wakes up and realizes how valuable she (and the entire trans community) are amazing!
Isn't she a zionist?
Why are they amazing? Do you know them all?
She cowered to Republicans instead of standing her ground. I'm extremely disappointed in her.
"she (and the entire trans community) are amazing!" How does being trans instantly make someone Amazing???
I agree
NO! SHE SHOULDN’T! Her giving up that easily made me really mad!
There are also many trans people like myself who have never been comfortable in male or female binary bathrooms.
Worth pointing out that the bathroom ban affects every trans and nonbianary staffer, aid and guest in the Capitol building bathrooms. Which in my opinion means every trans man in the D.C. area should stop by the Capitol building and join Nancy Mace, MGT and every Republican women in the women's bathroom.......✊️💜🏳️⚧️💜✊️
Nice idea, but they will just crank up the segregation.
Sign: "No ordinary people allowed in the bath rooms", subscript: "Please use the garbage dump behind the house. The place where we get our ideas from is appropriate for people like you. Signed: Nancy"
It really is something that the people in congress have so little to worry about they're litigating who gets to use what bathroom.
Not going to hold my breath waiting for Mace to call out Trump over his admission that he used to go into to the changing rooms at the Miss Teen USA beauty pageants to see girls changing.
I don't know if my comment is going to help this particular issue.
I can tell you my experience a couple days ago. I needed to go use the restroom quickly. I was driving and had to find the nearest stop. I stopped at quick trip because it has public restrooms.
I get out of my car and go inside to find that the men’s restroom had caution tape all over it with a paper sign written in magic marker that says do not enter.
I'm thinking to myself. Okay, why is the men’s room blocked off, why is there caution tape and why won’t they allow us to enter?
I look to my left the women's doesn't have caution tape over and doesn't have a sign that says do not enter. I'm
Thinking to myself okay I have two choices now. I leave this location and drive further to find a men’s restroom that's not blocked off with caution tape. Or I check to see if it's okay to use the women’s room for this particular time.
I crack open the door to see if anyone’s in there. No one is in there. I quickly make my way to one of the stalls and lock it close. As I'm doing my business I hear a knock on the door. I'm like Whos knocking? A person “man” I can hear their voice says. “You need to come out you can’t be in there.”
I wait until I get done and wash my hands. I look outside and there’s a security officer. He follows me out of the restroom and says, “You can't go into the women's restroom. There could have been a woman in there.”
I turn around and tell that officer, “Okay, well you can’t block off the men’s restroom.”
He responded, “Yes, we can the floor is flooded”.
He continues to follow me and stands around me. I’m thinking in my head what are you going to do? Escort me out? Arrest me? Follow me home?
He walked away and backed off. I went my own way and bought some items, and snacks, checked out, and left.
Thought I share to contribute to the conversation. Yes, I’m a cisgender man. Yes, I do have male anatomy. Yes, I do use the men’s restroom.
My question is what if I was transgender? Would that offer had said the same thing to a transgender man or woman? If so he would have violated his right as an officer and enforced discrimination.
Ive noticed that everywhere I've been in the past few days the mens bathrooms are taped off. The conspiracy part of my brain wonders if some business owners are taking part in some weird social experiment.
Honestly...if one of the gendered bathroom is closed down for whatever reason for an extended period of time...i.e. not for something like cleaning...the other bathroom should just be considered an all gender one at that point.
As for the transgender question, there is no rights or laws about using a bathroom in a store. The store can ask you to leave if they feel you used the wrong one...no matter what. and if you don't, you are trespassing. But there is no law that says a store HAS to do anything about bathroom use...or not about it. All the trans bathroom laws that have been passed only applies to government owned buildings.
@ thank you for your response.
Before my situation I was in the middle of the bathroom. I saw both sides offering counter productive agreements.
However, after my situation, It made me side with the inclusive bathroom side. I am a more nuanced person.
Where I stand is making sure everyone is able to have accommodation services to go to the bathroom.
I’m glad you understood my logic in my situation. I wasn’t purposely trying to invade a particular space. It was an unfortunate mechanical malfunction issue that should have been resolved and wasn’t.
Because they closed off the bathroom I regular use I had to use the alternative one. It was an emergency situation. Like you said there needs to be accommodations when situations like that happen.
If it wasn’t closed off I would have used the men’s restroom but they wouldn’t allow me to use it. That’s why I went into the women’s restroom.
Also, when I was in there, I was by myself. I locked the door behind to make sure no one saw me peeing. I checked my surroundings to make sure it was okay. Now I remember there was a woman that exited the restroom before I enter and she gave me a nod and said assured me it was okay to enter.
If I got her approval why should it be a problem?
Set aside my situation alone. The debate is so nuanced to the point it’s just a restroom with stalls. We can bend and accommodate things for all situations and people regardless of how someone might feel.
The whole bathroom debate is blown out of proportion. Till pretty soon we are just going to end up with all restrooms being gender neutral and they remove the “men” and “women” labels and just label them restrooms.
He definitely would have. I saw a video of them refusing to let a cis-gendered woman use the woman's bathroom because they thought she was trans.
Just let people pee, a toilet is a toilet.
Good pointz. We gotta fight for our basic human right TO POTTY
“radical left!!” girl isnt the radical left the side the helping you??
You can't beat American Comedy!
American: "You radical leftist!"
On the rest of the planet: A turbo-capitalist right leaning conservative that was indoctrinated with religious nonsense since birth.
It’s extremely irritating to hear nancy say see doesn’t want penıses in women’s restrooms when a majority of transwomen don’t want theirs. As a transguy I’m more terrified of going into the men’s restroom and an aggressive man finds out I’m not biologically male and doing something.
These people don’t understand that we just want to potty in peace (especially the peace of feeling like you’re in the right place) and that truly bad people seeking to cause harm will always find a way.
16:30
I agree. She shouldn't lay down and take it. This well affect also other people (like staffers) in congress
omg hi I love you so much u helped me with my identity and im always so grateful for you Samatha :)
The Nancy lady is giving mad uncanny valley. Oh my god. She scares me
As a trans person, I understand conceding bathrooms, but hopefully enough people will stand on our side through this like AOC
I was having a bit of a rough week, but a Samantha video is just what I need to feel better.
Great points you made, Sam!!
When a politician says „In scripture it says so.“ is FUCKING TERRIFYING!!!
Scripture also mentions talking animals so 🤷🏼♀️
The sad part about what Nancy is doing is that when it has been pointed out to her about DT and MG, she accused them of victim shaming her because she was SA'd
My Oppinion: If the Bathroom Situation would be a real Issue they could make Bathrooms Unisex and be done with it...
McBride shouldn't have to be an advocate for herself or take a stand on behalf of trans people generally. Where is the groundswell of support from her fellow congresspeople? Where is the solidarity from other women who recognize this as wrong?
I was amazed by Wicked's pacing
Nancy "Two Face" because she used to believe in trans rights.
I think as a trans community with the current political climate, we are facing a long game now. I really do understand her response, people were acting like she just bowed down. No she stated she disagreed, BUT then stated she will follow the law AS ANYBODY IN POLITICS SHOULD. She is taking an approach that appeals to the greater audience, I get it. Who knows what the majority will think if she said something more progressive? Having her in politics is pushing it enough for people, not that that’s acceptable but it is what it is. when she establishes a name for herself I genuinely hope she is able to make more of a stand for the community. Her job is what it is, I can sympathize with that, being a politician isn’t easy regardless and she has the worst cards. She’s being collected and smart, I think it’s a good move honestly.
The right want more sound bites like the "it's ma'am" clip. Their aim is to make trans women seem masculine and aggressive when they've been harassed for so long they crack.
It hurts our public image and gets laws passed against us because people think we are all like that, five o clock shadow clothes that don't quite fit and bad makeup is their vision of trans women it's one they sell to the public by harassing us.
Taking the high road is the only option..
I definitely see where you're coming from. When you're in power but are not the social majority you have to basically balance between doing the work to make your marginalized groups accepted but also focus on following the current law to ensure you don't immediately lose power to change things for the better. It's frustrating either way cause it's a dammed if you do dammed if you don't. No outcome is good.
My hot take (as a cis man) is that this was def the right decision for Sarah. The trans bathroom debate has always been about excluding trans people from public spaces, so Nancy's goal was clearly to make Sarah feel so uncomfortable and ostracized that she would either leave or attempt to fight back and face consequences. Instead, she focused on the work that she was elected to do and let the right throw a hissy fit about her supposed penis. However, I think that her cis allies (other democrats) should be fighting back in her stead, since she does not have the privilege to do so herself (shout out AOC ❤). Instead, most democrats are also rolling over and letting it happen because it wont affect them specifically.
Anyway, this might be a privileged take, idk, I'd love to hear other perspectives.
I (as a trans woman) agree with you. Personally I try and avoid going to public bathrooms because no matter which one I go to I feel like I'll make someone uncomfortable as I feel I pass somewhat well but if someone in the women's restroom clocks me, and in the other scenario of going to a men's restroom presenting female it would seem weird to the men in the restroom. So Sarah making the decision to not fight against someone's (supposed (i.e. Mace fear-mongering)) fears of someone being trans in a restroom is smart because now Sarah is abiding by her fears and being accommodating rather than causing conflict.
The way they describe "male" and "female" is I will call it "Colin-Wright-style", includes arbitrary and teleological assumptions. Wouldn't it be possible to challenge this legally in the US justice system? Here in Germany such a definition would have no chance to remain legally, the federal constitutional court (Bundesverfassungsgericht) surely would repeal it. For some anti-trans biologists this seems to be good enough, but not to base laws upon.
How does a servant of the people tell the people to "F off?" When did elected officials decide that they were above the people they are elected to server?
Weather the storm Sarah, thank you for talking about this. I believe this will be a huge stepping stone for transgender rights in the years to come .❤
Some people care about other human rights abuses in the world that are specific to region. Trans human, civil and social rights abuses are worldwide. I wonder how bad things will have to be for them to notice trans people? Black and brown and disabled trans women are especially vulnerable.
While the bill was clearly aimed at only one person, it does affect staffers and visitors
As a trans man who regularly enters and changes in the men’s locker room (granted, I always change in the stalls) and doesn’t always ‘pass’ completely (I’m very short) I promise you that ordinary people do not care. I have never been harassed or denied entry; and the few times I’ve been politely ‘corrected’, as soon as they hear my voice and see my face they apologise and go on their way without batting an eyelash. Disclaimer: I’m from Canada, but also from a more conservative province. While trans men aren’t really acknowledged in the bathroom debate, I still want to give trans men who are anxious about locker rooms and bathrooms reassurance that (depending where you’re located) chances are no one will care as long as you’re also respectful and walk with confidence. You DO belong there.
These term people what do they do when they have young kids, like my mum was a single mum and she had to take my brother into the women’s bathroom and I’ve heard of the opposite (single dads taking their daughters into the men’s bathroom) because some kids are too young to go into the bathroom by themselves and not everywhere will have family rooms. Like this isn’t even about trans people but like how would these rules affect these people
It's crazy, because I would feel uncomfortable with someone who looked fully masculine using the same restroom as me. Either way transphobes will be unhappy. And how do they suggest they see if someone is trans? Truly disgusting.
I love how even the people in the audience where she was speaking hate her. 😂
I don't get the hate towards Representative Sarah. She is not saying she is okay with the rule. She is just saying she will abide by it. Elected officials aren't vigilantes; they are supposed to change unjust laws, not disobey them.
There are many trans women veterans (I am one) who have worked with her/office in the past on ending Military Sexual Assaults. Now she wants to play games against the same ones that stood beside her. Oh and this ban is way bigger than one Representative. As it effects me and many other trans people who are frequently in the capital advocating for our intesectional communities. Especially effects us trans veterans with service connected disabilities. Note House offices 4 buldings 4.4 million sqft, 3 single use restrooms.
Thank you so much for this
How to deal with cognitive dissonance? One of the most difficult parts of Ww2 was deprogramming people from fascism and preventing more especially in America. There were government movies made to help people recognise fascism and not fall for it but afterwards all over the world we experienced it very differently now it always any British exceptionalism, American exceptionalism ect not about how to recognise fascism or dark truths about it like how the Alied forces kept lgbt prisoners of nazi camps prisoner until the 70s.
I don't think the senator should. People should be able to use the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity.
Sarah McBride is a highly qualified representative. Also… why does assume to know Sarah’s genitalia? So gross on her part
As a trans person, I think Sarah deserves to use whatever bathroom obviously. But she also immediately rolled over and showed her belly to the right and now not only will she be banned from those restrooms (which doesn’t matter because she has a private restroom), every trans staffer will also be banned. By immediately giving up her rights, she threw every trans person under the bus. I believe we need trans representation but we need people who fight. The next 4 years are going to be even worse because we finally have a representative and she is horrible on Palestine and also will not fight for us. I don’t think she deserves to be celebrated for courage when she doesn’t display it. I love you trans people 🫶🏽 you deserve rights and people who fight for you. We deserve better
Nice victim blaming ... you are able to construct out of your illiteracy of the law, democracy and your arrogance.
If anything at all, Sarah had to accept the democratic rules/decisions and is now oppressed LIKE ANYBODY ELSE in her position. In a democracy we fight this by debates, changing minds and then: THE LAW! This fight is the job of an elected representative like Sarah. It is not her duty to act like a criminal and ignore the existing legislation. This may be YOUR (our) job as activists (and those affected) to protest, make the public aware of the segregation and inhumane conditions.
Your strange topic-hopping and accusations, even constructing an enemy-image of Sarah just shows that you haven't put many thoughts into it besides your feelings and your superficial half-knowledge. You can change that easily with a little energy, that you put into learning, thinking about who is actually responsible for your living conditions and unholy F ... a little bit of loyalty to reality and proportionality might also be appropriate.
So now, what will you do? Cry in your misery and keep thinking that everyone else is on this planet is there to hurt you personally? Or accept some critique or good advice, learn essential principles and what is important in life and get on your feet, ready to end this s-show of inequality that not only trans people are facing but women, minorities and many more? Here is my hand, sister!
SEGREGATION is the word that applies here. Congressman Mace acknowledged in another video that it angers her that Congresswoman McBride considers herself Mace's equal. That's the issue. Separate but UNEQUAL? Haven't we been down this road before? Is George Wallace her role model? At least he eventually apologized.
Something I am getting sick of, is hearing liberals and "moderates" saying "we need to focus on 'average Americans, not pronouns" (which is starting to center around the same implications I'm hearing all simultaneously). Its the new people trying to say the "left has gone too far" (supporting trans-rights.) (Bill Mahar and TYT, though TYT is pivoting more loudly culture-war reactionary-centrist lately.)
I don't know where this came from all of a sudden or why they think Kamala lost over one Republican ad saying "she's for they/them *not you*" and they took that so personally, rather than it being... obviously transphobia.)
Its why Sarah McBride trying to look legitimate by conceding on this is not a good look. She is accepting trading her rights, for the transphobic "average American" voting against her. They always mean, white-cis-middle class people as "average" (meaning for them, "normal" and obviously themselves) Its most reactionary bs I've seen since Trump won. When I hear liberals claim "we need to focus on average Americans (against trans rights or anti-racism)" you can pick up on it being, polite bigotry. They're trying to separate trans-people, from everyone else as a political position. (Cenk & Ana have been loud about this bs now, along with others on mainstream news pundits) and accepting right-wing and terf positions, trying to claim the left needs to align with it to move forward. No thank you.
It’s hard because as a Florida trans woman this is already the reality for us. Considering the administrations she’s going to be serving under I don’t think there’s much else she could do to stop it since she’s not even sworn in yet. If she’s an established congresswoman than maybe she could raise more hell about it but imo she handled this as well as I could hope
I would like to know how this is handeled in practice by trans people. And how many non-passing cis people are affected. I think much more than trans people. Exactly as AOC said, it brings most harm to cis people, since there are many non-passing cis people for every trans person (passing or not).
On the one hand, it’s great to see Trans representation in politics, someone from the community who knows what are struggles are. Buuut on the other hand, working with either side of the isle? Letting this bullshit ban/ruling go through is a horrible statement to both transgender people and trans youth. Because they’ll see someone from their community have their rights taken away and not fight it.
I get your point, but Sarah is being smart about this imo. She's playing the long game here.
Keep in mind she just got elected to the house. Rolling in day one and causing a bunch of stir is a surefire way for her to be voted out, shunned or not cooperated with. Essentially leaving her toothless when it come to policy-making.
What's better is for her to stay out of the limelight and work on actual policy that affects real life, staying in her position, building bridges with other politicians and getting things done long term out of the spotlight.
Getting bogged down in culture wars nonsense is the worst thing she could have done, rendering her unable to enact any discernable change.
This has been my year, sorta LOL I've lost a ton. But I am going to transition this year and this news feels like 10 years ago+ where we were the butt of jokes.
I live in Canada, so I don't think I'll be affected too much. This type of stuff overall just makes me sad.....I've taken a few classes in my community and worrying about where to pee is sad =/
Most of my places I have a gender neutral restroom, but more often then not, it's just a handy cap with a new sign D= Sorry those who really need them
Am I crazy to think that representatives had their own office bathrooms? People should mind their own business
I love the nail sounds samantha should do asmr ngl
I actually hate it :D. I love Samantha but the nail thing gives me the shivers.
It's just crazy that they worry about "men in women's bathrooms" (🙄) but what about the trans men? (As a trans man) I genuinely don't understand the bathroom beef people have. I know I get nervous in a women's bathroom and accord to them I belong there? Idk this stuff is so confusing and I hope Sarah can get some genuine work done. I can only imagine how much of a tricky situation this is for her
I also want to weigh in on this whole notion that there's only one transgender person in the whole entire place. They're May very well be only one elected official who is trans but who's to say that there aren't custodial staff or trans security staff or trans any other people that are inside that entire building!?
Thanks for uploading and making my day better. 😊
I agree that I am tired of the culture-war, but I am not going to concede to the right-wing. I am tired of it from a left wing position. People know these are manufactured outrage bait for careerists and grifting engagement. While it has real consequences to ignore, I'm tired of people using it as a circular wedge issue that isn't a real wedge anymore outside of just Christian extremists and engagement farmers on x.
No. Next question.
kinda hate how some people these days are able to make a good living simply by making some 3 peoples lifes worse. americans voted for this but get angry if you think they have severe cognitive issues.
I'm going to go out on a limb here: I think that the long term effect will be that liberals who had previously been apathetic will become more active allies of ours. Meanwhile, those few conservatives who actually think for themselves will likely become apathetic, some of whom might loudly say "who cares?"
I love how she does not mention once anything about trans men being forced to use the woman’s bathrooms, I’m sure she hasn’t even thought of that scenario 😑
Can’t imagine being in her position and not standing for mine and my fellow trans peoples rights. What a spine person
I am ever grateful to be Canadian!
Yayyyyy Samantha posted!!! 😆😊💜
we all in the bathroom taking nasty animalistic shits, there is no need to pretend like it's a sacred place, people get so worked up about who goes in what bathroom, it just so does not matter, the sign on the bathroom door isn't going to stop bad people from doing bad things, this is just another way for billionaires to give their transphobia a platform
may i dare say it's irrational and fear like maybe transphobia?
Explaining and sharing factual information that confirms their bigotry and hypocrisy is very useful and powerful!
If Sarah McBride just said “cool story, bro.” That would have been perfect
I wish she would, but she's got to decide to have that fight or not. There's some utility to letting allies step forward in this at first, especially since we're a minority. The public outcry can become an open door to a rallying cry, where she is kept protected, and isn't the one having to lead the charge, but is the icon of the very thing we need to combat; bigotry.
Hey just wanna say I don’t really watch most of your videos because I don’t have the stomach to expose myself to transphobia on a regular basis (even if your lovely personality is the one talking about it) but I really appreciate the work that you do. Keep doing what you’re doing and keep being lovely.
Where does Mike Johnson's quote on scripture come from? Like the passage
Has anyone checke Mace's bathroom privileges? Because the longer I look the more I feel sure that she is, in fact, being portrayed by the talented Daniel Day-Lewis.
Glad to see AOC giving solid allyship and backup on this issue. It’s good to hear something positive from any congressperson, especially a woman
She should have at least said Trans people are a tiny vulnerable minority, focusing and fearmongering on us is extremely petty and bullying
This whole thing just made me think okay but how about what does a mom with her child who is a young boy at the store and she needs to go to the bathroom but she can't leave for a kid out in the cards even if it's next to the restroom she can't just go back and forth to check on him to make sure he doesn't get stolen so she has to take him in the bathroom so if these idiots in congress say yes to this bill and mother cannot take her infant child who's a boy into the same restroom for safety and again like I said the idiots who wants to say yes to that type of bill that's just stupid
Come to Blue Sky, Samantha!
as a trans woman i'm still scared using womens restroom ;-; i still get weird looks from cis men this law is so stupid
Yay for Sarah!!!! 🥳
Isn't she pro-Israel? Yeah, I wouldn't have even voted for her myself, trans or not. Definitely not remotely radical, unfortunately.
I'm sorry? You thought they were over this? Why? Also, there are trans staff and aides that need to use the bathroom. This doesn't only affect McBride.
Congress people protest the rules and break the rules and debate the rules ALL THE TIME. She would not be removed and would paradoxically win the respect of at least some republicans. The same logic that says she should give in on this, means she should give in on how she dresses and dress as a man.
I love you girl, so proud of you and Sarah!!!!
I'm incredibly disappointed with Sarah McBride's response. As "the first", she's being a terrible advocate. She's acting like an establishment Democrat: bowing to extremist bullying instead of fighting against it. Girl needs to grow back the spine she had 10 years ago.
What an "attack".
She stands alone here in South Carolina. I am a trans woman and live here in South Carolina for 3 years and most people are respectful and kind
I agree with you that Sarah's approach is the correct one optically. I also think that all the Democrat representatives and senators should be the ones actively decrying this bill (as AOC did) for the act of legislative harassment that it is.
I wish Nancy Mace would focus on important things like the UAP issue.
She's already sending billions to genocide women and children in Gaza you think she cares about women when she's a REPUBLICAN AND SUPPORTS PROJECT 2025!!?? Absolutely tf not.
So allowing men into women's bathrooms is okay?
If you can, run. Try to flee.
Is it just me, or does Nancy Mace look and sound like the evil stepmother in almost every knock off Cinderella moive??? 🤔
Yeah it’s not fair. You can’t deny someone’s identity and then say you’re still treating them with dignity. That is definitionally the opposite of treating someone with dignity.
Also wish Sarah McBride stood up for herself. It’s insane she was ever okay with not using the correct bathroom (the woman’s restroom) and it’s insane she was willing to self segregate. She’s a representative, her decisions don’t just affect her they affect all of us, and these ‘no you’re right, seperate but unequal policies and discrimination are actually fine’ being her de facto behavioral response is insane.
You can’t stick up for your constituencies if you can’t even stick up for yourself, and by not sticking up for yourself and doing the messaging of easily proving how insanely bigoted and contrived this all is by using talking points actively let’s down your constituents and your entire community nationwide and only makes it unsafe for all of us. There’s a reason most people didn’t fall for the bathroom discrimination and it failed the first time. It’s proven that this messaging won’t work if you just push back and expose their bigotry like with exactly what AOC said. I wish she’d do more. AOC fought more for her than she did for herself. :/
What's your view on the matter of females vehemently objecting to males, however they describe themselves, trying to access female only facilities, compromising said females' comfort and privacy ?
Okay, but like multi-stall bahtrooms are so gross. Imaing the stalls gone: we're just sitting like two feet from each other pisisng and shitting. And God forbit you get the stall that lines up with the door, so you can make eye contact with everyone who enters thrut the giant crack. When you put the toilet cover down and sit down, and it's wet, and it sticks to the seat and you. The amount of people who don't flush. The fact that EVERY surface is probably covered in shit particles.
Equality 🟰♀️🏳️⚧️ 🏳️🌈
wicked made me cry too queen
I think in a way this will allow the men in the mens room in congress to see the error of this. All while hopefully she gets to know her male coleagues personally as they get to know her personally. I hate to go pop culture on this one but, what would Elle Woods do?
1) The whole bathroom issue against Mcbride is STUPID.
2) it's really a non-issue because these people have private bathrooms in their office.
3) Thank god Mcbride had good sense to not engage this idiotic non-issue. It's a waste of time.
Honestly, this whole thing made Mace look like a moron who wastes everyone's time.
What about staffers or others that work on the Hill who don’t have access to private bathrooms? What about school trips?
@@AriadneCampbell-i3f The bathrooms in question for the non binding resolution (i.e. something already meaningless and a waste of time) would not be something open to school field trips as the resolution ONLY are for bathrooms under the prevue of the chamber of the house. Not all of capitol hill as the house does not have that power. Nor are staffers likely to have to use said restrooms either as the staffers also have access to those private restrooms. Like Mcbride said, it's not worth her time. And I respect her IMMESISELY for that. Wasting time on something that is ultimately just superficial when there are real issues to fight over. While I believe Mcbride absolutely should be allowed to use the women's restroom, I also respect that she is wise enough to not waste time on it.
>"Thank god Mcbride (sic) had good sense to not engage this idiotic non-issue. It's a waste of time. "
This is kinda unrelated, but the first time I saw a photo of this representative I thought she was Abby Shapiro at first lol
I cried while watching Wicked, too!
