Well, I’m usually a classic VH/ Hair metal fan and player but that song sounded really good. It made me think of “Epic” by “Faith No More”, I don’t know why, but it had that exciting octave/orchestra sounding tone with the stops and starts… I hope I made sense.
I'm listening to that intro tune and going FUUUCK that tone is some HUGE APC vibe and the amp sounds so vicious, great and airy - bam, he starts talking about Howerdel... 😮
A black'd out Naked popped up on Reverb back in 2013 (for like $2,500?!?) like TWO days after I dropped a pretty hefty amount of dough on a used VH4. I LOVE my VH4, but I will never stop kicking myself for missing out on that Naked.
Check out budda superdrive series as I have read that when Dave designed the preamp circuit in the budda it was basically the naked circuit with a few minor tweaks.. and they are priced very well
Holy crap that tune was awesome brother!! And that tone is beyond with the right chunk, the right bite, and the mids aren't muddy or nasal - it's got the goods. Reminds me of LeTekro a bit - the Naked wins wow.
So grateful for this video, Mike. That is Billy’s sound! Never heard that from any other amp.. fat, full & and aggressive with that somehow ‘rusty’ high mid range/ highs. Even the (very) clean sounds have that certain character to it. Always assumed Billy’s LP’s had custom wound PAF style pickups, unpotted or some such, creating the that retro, rusty, full mid range. Someone told me once Billy wound his own pickups, so figured that, and a modded plexi was the tone. Speaking as a massive APC fan, this was immensely satisfying. Goddamn that second Naked amp sounded ridiculously good too.. the BE definitely does not do ‘that’.
Ugghhh, I had one of the earlier ones from 2010 in the old style 2203 headshell. Just like this white one except black. It was a uniquely great amp and one of the ONLY pieces of gear I regret selling. Between the main channel, the simple one-knob clean, Saturation switch and effects loop it had everything you need and nothing you didn't.
This shares a similar preamplifier to a Naylor and a Budda Superdrive. Apparently Dave Friedman designed the preamp in the pre-peavey Budda Superdrive's then Jeff Bober designed the power amp section. I own a pre-peavey Budda Superdrive 45 and it's my go to. I can't afford a Friedman Naked but the Budda Superdrive 45 and 80 are very similarly voiced.
I think it's noteworthy to point out that Billy Howerdel's rig had 2x Lexicon MPX G2. The upgraded version of MPX1 that doesn't have processing limitations and surprisingly has a preamp. It's the best budget thing if you wanted that Lexicon PCM tone, the only good thing from Lexicon's later and more affordable units I hear. You can get MPX1 for a price you really shouldn't be able to get that stuff even with the processing limitations. And the ability to tweak parameters, add effects in delay feedback and tweak the processing chain is powerful once you start doing your own presets. Are those "H3000" looking units Digitech? I think the units below them might be Digitech or maybe TC from the looks? Interesting how it's kinda one generation later rack that doesn't cost arm and leg, before racks went fully out of fashion. Really wanna hear a demo of those PCM42's (and PCM41's) if possible! It's almost impossible to find a demo of the sounds inside those units on youtube, yet everybody and their mother raves about them if they know their old gear. People are almost religious about them. And saw them in the racks of Ratt too, with SPX90's. Been so intrigued by them, what makes them so great, what do they exactly sound like. Kinda curious about Roland SDE-3000 as well, another legendary unit.
YES! It's also worth noting that the G2 is a pretty flakey unit. That's why Billy always had a bunch of them... as replacements for a failed unit. Also, they're miserable to program. I bought one, never could figure it out.
Very cool.. from what I've read and understand the budda superdrive series are almost identical with very few tweaks. They come in at a great price point.. I'd love to see u demo one and get ur thoughts on that. From what I gather Dave and Naylor had a hard in developing them
1) The piece you recorded for this video is WTF next level. 2) The Naked amp may well be the best sounding amp ever. Everything you played through it sounded like it had been triple or quadruple tracked. It was three dimensional. 3) Badger Mr Friedman to make that amp again exactly (sonically anyway) like the amp you played. That combo of thickness, distortion and clarity is not supposed to exist. Thanks for another great video.
Actually, The Naked is Dave's best Rock amp I owned outta the herd. Great ACDC in there. It's the upper mids and the fangs with that fat tight bottom end.
I can only speak for the older one I had. A good master but not mouse fart chamoion volumes. I've discovered, no kick ass rock amps like to be told to quiet it down. It's like: "No man, F-YOU! I'M GOIN' NAKED"
FINALLY, I got it out! 2 false starts, but I think this one is FINALLY FINALLY complete. haha. Rock on!!!
Roots! Outstanding, you killed it! Now everyone can see where Dave began ..... well, in building amps.
i was waiting!...i watched like 30 seg the first time and said!...great...i'll watch later!!!..Gone!...Awesome!

Video suggestion: see how close you can get to the Naked with Friedman pedals.
That intro was like a 80's inspired version of APC - The Outsider, very cool.
I'm listening to that intro tune and going FUUUCK that tone is some HUGE APC vibe and the amp sounds so vicious, great and airy - bam, he starts talking about Howerdel... 😮
No doubt!

Intro track is smoking!!!
Sounds like it could be a new A Perfect Circle song.
Spot on
You should have a backtrack channel always love your riffage
Wow! That intro tune is A-MAZ-ING! My ears are drooling!
There's something about C# man. Testament, Ozzy, Behemoth, Decapitated, and the list goes on and on.
Man I wish Dave would put these into production. I'd buy one.
Check out budda superdrive series as I have read that when Dave designed the preamp circuit in the budda it was basically the naked circuit with a few minor tweaks.. and they are priced very well
Wow! That beginning sounded INCREDIBLE! Great playing, tone, and mixing, sir!! 😎👍
Something tells me Michael can hear those post production lexicons even before they are added in as he plays.
Coming back a year later, that intro song is sick
Sounds so huge! That track is awesome. Big Hairy Guitars always delivers.
Sick track at the beginning, Michael!
Holy crap that tune was awesome brother!! And that tone is beyond with the right chunk, the right bite, and the mids aren't muddy or nasal - it's got the goods. Reminds me of LeTekro a bit - the Naked wins wow.
Intro track is phenomenal and so are the tones! The pinch harmonics sound similar to the Rivera preamp you played last year 🤘
Dude! I thought so too! Interesting that you picked up on it also

Goddamn that second Naked amp sounded ridiculously good too.. the BE definitely does not do ‘that’.
The Alex Lifeson riffs are cool because he used anything and everything, proving it’s not the amp at all.
Awesome jam to kick off the video! Awesome sounding amp too of course !
Usually anything "Chugging" is a non-starter for me. But I end up watching your videos start to finish because YOU sounds SO GOOD. 😎
Thanks Chris! 🙏
Both amps sound really good. I would be happy with either one.
Michael......that composition was awesome 🤘😳❤️.........what better way to showcase a Friedman Naked.....than a Billy H. inspired masterpiece🤘
That intro music...I would buy it! Take my money!
Awesome song! Even the production was fantastic sounding.
Fantastic job. Everyone needs Nakie time!
HAHA
way to nail the inspired by aspect of that intro track... literally sounds like an unreleased APC demo, but with a shreddy solo
Killer! These would be cool as limited Friedman. As always stellar production!
Dude…that intro track was killer!!!
Incredibly good sound and playing!
It reminds me of my 1st generation Quick Rod...especially with that white one nearly being a twin. Not bad at all.
love the opening song. massive and dynamic to the max

Gee, Michael, that opening rock is unbelievable. Congrats to that riffing extravaganza!

Wow that opening song was amazing 😮
Love that clean channel….love the whole amp
love all your demos but man those tones!
Is there anything obtainable close to this? That smooth low end. Just perfect.
Great!
I really love your tracks à mix between Tool and APC sound is amazing 💪🖤
Sounds to me like the tone we all aspire to have.
**Dann Huff Interview** with Michael Nielsen...
Since these aren’t in production, can we get a Kemper pack?? 🤞🏻
Plus 💯
its out
Ew
@@cardbored_ ???

Mike’s wife: How many “British” amps do you need?
-Yes.
Haha
The opening tune is sick!! Totally needs a top line and release that puppy! 🤘
I would buy this Single!!!!
Great stuff! Awesome playing!!🇨🇦
Michael Nielsen is a Guitar GOD ...thank you for sharing your gifts, so much fun to watch and hear you play - more, please
Man, hope you do a Rig Library of this amp, can't wait!
Intro track sounds bloody great on the heavy rhythm stuff! 🤘👍
Naked pancakes for dinner!
Yes!!
Excellent intro!! 🤘🏼
Very cool.. from what I've read and understand the budda superdrive series are almost identical with very few tweaks. They come in at a great price point.. I'd love to see u demo one and get ur thoughts on that. From what I gather Dave and Naylor had a hard in developing them
You killed that intro!
That Ratt tone was spot on. Wow!
Wow stellar intro track! I love it nearly as much as the Jake E Lee signature intro track.
They need to make these again.
That intro song is EPIC.
also, i've wanted one of these so bad since hearing Billy use it live... the sound is just so crushingly immense
Man, that intro was sick.
Gosh...devouring the chuckiness...finger lickin good 😁
damn killer intro song! and killer tone!
intro is so amazing.
Bravissimo, very good piece of music, compliments!
Sounds a lot like the fryette stuff to me. Kind of like my pittbull 50CL if I could play as good as you 😍😍😍😍
You're a master, keep rocking man
We need a comparison with this and the Budda Superdrive 80
The Naked seems to have retained the aggressive highs which the browneye has tamed.
What an intro! Hell-yeah!
Nice Intro-Song
Where can i buy the Michael Nielson solo-record? 😅
Sick tones!

Intro track is smoking dude
Man that sounds really good.
Intro track def has a Billy vibe!
Phenomenal music Mike 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That jam at the start was awesome. And I’m not a metaller anymore.
Kemper Pack?
Naylor Superdrive 100 Preamp + Marshall Jmp 1978 Power Amp.
Love this
Gawd, you had to pull out that Friedman T-Type! Still haven't picked one up.
Waiting for the Kemper's profile. Thanks!
Killer intro!!
The red one is back!
Sounds Great! Especially the original! What Lollars are in your les Paul???? Thanks
Keep rocking all the way
That may be my favorite intro you have ever done. Badass...
Thanks dude
Seems to sound really close to a boosted Friedman SS in term of gain structure.
Actually, The Naked is Dave's best Rock amp I owned outta the herd.
Great ACDC in there.
It's the upper mids and the fangs with that fat tight bottom end.
I'm contemplating buying one these for classic medium-gain rock. Is this amp's master volume usable?
I can only speak for the older one I had.
A good master but not mouse fart chamoion volumes.
I've discovered, no kick ass rock amps like to be told to quiet it down.
It's like: "No man, F-YOU! I'M GOIN' NAKED"
Damn that thing sounds great!
It sounds like a modded Marshall through my headphones.. sounds good.
In regard to intro songs you are getting preety much on par with Pete Thorn.
Kinda reminds me of the VHT Deliverance
It’s almost identical to my ears, and Deliverance sounds more harmonically rich
Yup this rocks , great demo of a dream amp and it’s tones ..... freakin pancakes !!!!
Hi michael! What pickups are in the black friedman? Sounds terrific🙌🏽
That intro song!
perfect sound \m/
Future kemper pack? I'd pay good money for that
Reminds me of a nailor/budda that perfect circle guitar tone.
AFAIK that's exactly what this amp is. It was the preamp section of a Naylor in a 2203 with the power section left intact.
@@bullhead242 thats why i said it. Wasnt sure if i remember all the particulars but read about it in my marshall mods soul search a couple yrs ago.
Awesome !
Hey Michael, do plan on making some Kemper profiles of the Naked amp?
They’re both borrowed, and through Dave, so I’d have to ask him
