    I just learned about aquaponics today at an emergency preparedness fair. I'm hooked and I'm excited to learn more about it. You are the first TH-cam source that I have found. Thank you for the content and I'm subscribed. Goodday from the desert southwest of US.

    I have the valves with screw threaded unions either side, makes cleaning and replacement easier.

      Have used a few of them as well Lee like on the drain outlets on the FT. Just didn't get to cover everything this time round. 😉

    Hi Rob, those red handle ball valves break down in the sun, i cut my fingers open on 1 as it snapped.

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I only used them for a couple of years before they got mothballed. These Sanking ones are over 12 years old & still going strong.

    I wonder if you can 3d-print a uniseal like unit using TPU or other flexible filaments.

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea. I don't know much about 3D printing. @Hoochos would be the man to ask.

      BTW, I dare say it's the black cockies you've seen doing the damage as I've seen them digging into branches before.

    Hi Rob, i think those sweeping elbows are painted with gold, that's why they cost so much.

  • @TankBossOG

    Love your work. Can you send a proper discription of those black quick disconect piping fittings, or a link to the product ? Some clue to where, I can research and source them locally in USA?

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're a bit hard to find in the US so I've put together kits for supporters in the past & sent them over.
      Pond, irrigation & aquarium suppliers would be your best bet I think.

    The screw and tape tip be good for indoor use? It would be a great hack for my fish-tank to sump plumbing for my aquarium 🤔

    • @RobsAquaponics

      It should be just fine for aquarium use Jennifer. 👍

    Would that tape and screw method work for 90mm pipe

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have used it on 90mm but it's not as secure mate. Make sure the pipe is well braced & can't wiggle.

    Australian DWV pvc-u non pressure pipe is drinking water safe in AS/NZS 4020 vindiex/iplex made. Also low density poly (irrigation) pipe is fine . Rural green stripe and metric blue stripe are the same material just different pressure ratings. Clear PVC tube/hose and vinyl garden hose are not food grade...but most people water there vegetable gardens with "garden hose". So you don't have to use pressure PVC pipe unless you are perhaps a comercial operator and require "food grade" certifiaction for legal inspection reasons.

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pressure pipe has a lot more fittings as well so that's another reason I prefer it.

    Do you really need to have a coupling on either side of the Uniseal?

    • @RobsAquaponics
      @RobsAquaponics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't depending on what the pipes job is. 👍

    A variable pump is ideal and I can really recommend it to any person with a pond or aquaponics system. I have one that also has a pause button so that you do not have to unplug the plug if you want to do maintenance, which is very useful. It also has a memory for the last operating setting, a soft start, overheating protection in case there is no water for whatever reason (frost or leak in a dry installation) A simple display that shows the power consumption and at what capacity percentage the pump is operating. Wet or dry installation. And the newest updated pumps from that same type of pump even have a wifi connection that communicates directly with your phone without the need for a router or an internet connection. And it can be programmed with the app. They also use about half the power from a traditional AC power pump. I believe that they have 3 or 4 different models with a different capacity up to 20.000 L/h.
    Compared to a traditional not variable pump those variable pumps from this brand are only about 10% more expensive when you buy them. And much cheaper compared to similar style pumps from other brands. In my country, the Netherlands, we have relative high energy costs, so I earned back the 10% extra purchase costs within a year, and I have all the other functionality which has proven to be very useful. I am using it for 6 years without any issues.
    -Aquaforte DM-vario
    -Aquaforte DM-vario S
    -Aquaforte DM-vario S Wifi
    There are 3 different types from the same pump, the DM-vario is the oldest version and the other two are updated versions.
    (I do not know if they sell it in every country.)
