Enjoyed your presentations on OBA’s. Also liked your photos! What chemicals are used to make OBA’s? Are they different than brightners that you would find on other “printing papers” (offset coated and uncharted papers)?
William Kelly Hi Jose Bill Kelly from Liverpool UK had to upgrade from the Epson 3880 to Epson SC p900 had the 3880 for 8-9 years. I had an inkflow system from Fotospeed it was fantastic so i have been searching for a ink flow for the P900. Found one in China but I cannot buy the ink in the UK. have you or any subscribers used ink from China? and have you any experience of these systems in general. Thanks Bill K
I also have a P900 but would be reluctant to use anything other than Epson ink without a lot of hard evidence that it would not damage the printer. In addition I would want to be sure of colour accuracy and print longevity.
Here is what I found on libe: It's not as bright as the Pro Platinum (98 brightness) and is a little brighter than the Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss (91 brightness). ... Because the brightness is less than 100, it doesn't appear that Canon is using Optical Brightening Agents (OBAs) in this paper. One way to do a quick check is to view a paper in a dark room with only a black light. If it fluoresces then it has an amount of OBAs.
@@cheo1949 thank you! However, if Pro Platinum does have OBAs then why is it considered to last more than 100 years? Actually, the same goes with Luster Pro and SGS II. As it seems to me, all of these papers have OBAs because usually paper makers note when their papers are free of them. And still, Canon claims about 100 years (now even 300 years!) longevity. Maybe it's not just OBAs what counts but the quality of that OBAs?
Yet another super insightful episode. Thanks so much Jose.
Great information to know, thank you Jose.
Very Helpful!
Wow! Thanks a lot.
Thanks so much

Does Canon Pro Luster also contain OBAs?
