- This is a simple and intuitive drawing exercise to increase your understanding of one point perspective.
03:00 Exercise overview
05:55 Full exercise in real time to draw along to.
This is the second episode in the series and will be focussed on one point perspective. The aim of the drawing exercise is to increase your ability through repetition and gradually increasing complexity, whilst stripping away a lot of technical terminology....... that can come later.
This series is designed to give a full understanding of what perspective drawing is and why I think it's worth learning.
Really looking forward to sharing my tips and advice, let me know what you think and if you'd like me to cover anything specific in future videos.

Getting a free art lesson from a master?
Priceless
Thank you
You make it look easy to film, but it is a pain, and extra work.
I appreciate it, from you and everyone else who takes the time to do this!
Thanks so much, really appreciate to saying so 🙏
@@Luke.Adam.Hawker Not twenty minuts ago i just purchased my first stilograph, i'll not eat in about a week but, i just love drawing. Wish me luck. You're such an amazing, superb artist. :) Love from Mexico. :)
Thanks a million for this, nice length video too so doesn't feel rushed trying to cram too much into 10 minutes like you'd see on other videos
Cheers Bob! Really appreciate that
I know why do they also have to rush so much?!
Love it! Thank you so much for putting out these amazing videos.
I just discovered your Instagram yesterday. Thank you so much for starting a video tutorial series! It's really helpful to follow the whole process in real time.

Hi Luke, thanks for offering up such great content. Have played with drawing perspective many times but to have your expertise as guidance/instruction is invaluable. Many thanks, Matt
Thanks a lot Matt, glad you found it helpful
Thanks for the tutorial, appreciate it and I enjoyed taking some time and working through it alongside you. A relaxing way to spend an afternoon.
This was ace, thank you for taking the time to make this. Looking forward to the next one.

This was a great video. This wasn't too rushed and I could actually follow along. Great excercise.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm loving these master clases and looking forwards to keep going with your amazing lessons. I've read a few books about perspective and practice a fair amount but nothing like the voice of the experience and these great explication to put all these information that i had and didn't know how to really apply to settle down in my mind, and my sketchbook. I can't strech enough how happy i'm to have found your videos. 10/10
Thank you Dan! Really means a lot. Glad you have you onboard 🙏

I can't afford a print of your drawings so ill simply have to draw them myself
That’s the spirit! 👍
very instructive video - thank you
Thanks for saying so Jo
I thought I was inside a rel city! Very cool.
I love this! , Thank you for doing it. Some bits though you seem to be talking but I have no sound just wondered if I am doing something wrong. It didn’t ruin the tutorial though .
Thank you Louise, seems like the video might have a glitch or it could well be the edit (me cutting out some rambling nonsense haha. I hope my editing skills improve!
i love your book and i follow u on insta! i really wanted to draw like u when i read ur book, im so.happy to know u are making videos on how to draw perspective!
That’s lovely of you to say so, thank you!

Thanks for saying so 🙏
I got my new 0.1 fineliner and sketchbook ready. All set for the next 1 hour 18 minutes.
Great! look forward to seeing what you come up with.
wow nice..
Thank you!
Amazing
🙏 thank you!
Hi Luke! That's a wonderful demonstration of One point perspective. Very informative. Thanks very much for sharing. Let's stay connected #LipsitaArt
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it
Could you explain how to do this type of lines that you usually use? And how to interpretate an image in order to draw the scene as you? The result is amazing, thaks
Thanks! I’ll be doing episodes specifically looking at my line technique etc. For now I’m focusing in the principles of perspective. Then we all have the foundation to keep learning.
Great video Luke :) Will u cover topics about cones, elipses and spheres, etc..?
There is also question about using ruler for drawing shapes, just to get more precise.
One more time, great video, waiting for new materials :)
Thanks Robert!
I’ll definitely be covering the things you mentioned, as for a ruler, feel free to use whatever feels best for you. From my point of view, I never used rulers as I don’t enjoy the process. This series is about showing how I learnt to draw in ways I believe developed my skills along the way.
Thanks for the video! Loved being able to follow along, i look forward to doing your 2 and 3 point excersizes next, and hopefully that will prepare me for whatever the next step is. I would be happy to share my piece with you as you say in the video, on instagram?
Yes please do share! instagram works, tag me. I hope you enjoyed the 2/3 point exercises. I am currently uploading plenty of videos all varying in subject.
This is really excellent info Luke! What happens when all sides are of different lenghts?
Thanks John, I'l cover this, you can always start with the typical cube and then work within it to adjust the lengths of the sides. Hard to explain over a comment but. hopefully my inktober videos with help and cover more irregular shapes and forms.
Can you explain your thought process with the excess lines-drawn-through at like 11:14 - 11:24 for example? Are they just guidelines? Can you explain how you use them in a sketching-on-site setting? I understand for this exercise they are probably inconsequential, but they seem characteristic to your style. I've completed programs like Drawabox that have you complete similar exercises, but your style feels looser and more forgiving.
Edit: Big fan BTW! I am an aspiring architect and love your work.
Sure, these were to help me stay focused on keeping the horizontal and vertical lines true. I’m often using light construction lines to help guide me along the way. It’s good to not be hesitant in making marks.
TY for doing the Video's!! I find I am still getting lost... Even with he first three... and I have done perspective houses before. Somehow I am having hard time seeing the first three cubes. And then as you draw in the bunch of them at the beginning. Almost as if I am not sure if the cube is getting smaller or bigger as we draw them. I know this makes no sense Just wanted to say it is still a bit confusing... Would love if somehow you can slow it down... or break it down a bit. Ill keep trying though. So even on your first cue which is the cube the outer square on inner square? Its just hard to understand what that picture means (Since its on the horizontal line maybe? I just have trouble in all your cubes seeing which is the closer wall and which is further away if that makes any sense.
Hi Sueb, don't stress, it is visually confusing but each step in the same, have a few more watches of the video. It is really important to draw along, if you need to pause, pause. sadly I can't go much slower as the video will be far to long. I would suggest starting with the first video in the series, the overview as this covers more theory. I'll be uploading more videos and I'm certain with patience and dedication you will master it. Thanks for the feedback!
Nice video ❤️👍amazing❤️❤️👍....🙂.....👍
Thank you very much!
Just bought your course on Domestika and looking forward to starting it. Question: Looks like you are purposely making the line "squiggly"... Is that just for effect?
Great video it motivates me to draw my big challenge was not to use a ruler and not to turn the page I had to stick it with tape to get rid of this habit lol 😂
Well done for challenging yourself! That’s the only way to improve 👍
In the video you say 0.2, but in the description it says 0.3. Which is the one in the video? Also, loving the tutorials. Cheers!
Yes well spotted, another mistake to learn from haha. thank you!
@@Luke.Adam.Hawker No worries, I went and got all 3 instead.
I was wondering what the brand is of the pens you use.
All in the description, thanks for watching
@@Luke.Adam.Hawker Thank you for teaching!
Thank you for the tutorial, got me drawing again for the first time in a long while 👍🏻
At 17:15 you say:
Draw through the line, not to it.
Before the line, not from it.
Could you elaborate on what you mean by that?
Thanks, that’s great to know!
So at that point I’m describing how I tend to cross my lines, instead of worrying about stopping/starting at a particular destination.
If people are concerned too much with that it can cause your to slow down and go off course.
@@Luke.Adam.Hawker Ah I get it now, so start and end your line before and beyond the points you’re aiming for, gotcha. Thanks!
🇲🇽
Luke: "Shade all the right side faces of the forms"
Me, gaining too much confidence: "pfff, easy!" *Proceeds to shade the right sides of ALL the shapes without looking at the video*
Luke: And then, shade in the left sides!
Me: wait...what? Oh sh*t!
The audio goes away in a lot of sections of the video. :(
