Be aware that even entry level helpdesk jobs are difficult to get right now. most entry level cyber jobs want 3-5 years of cyber experience plus a degree right now. I'm in cybersec 2 years exp with sec+/oscp a bachelors in info systems and red teaming courses plus HTB CPTS cours but not cert yet and i'm struggling to find a role even doing exactly what I do now (haven't even gotten an interview in months). and that's after paying hundreds for a new resume. it wont always be this way but be prepared for the job market and have realistic expectations. look at job postings. good luck guys; soon the economy will turn around and well all be swimming in offers again. Also good tips, thats about what you should be doing id say as well.
Josh Madakor is how I landed my first Help Desk Gig. They were super impressed I had a home lab/domain controller setup with 1,000 users. They gave me the Tier II position and 1 year later I'm senior Service Desk. My company just had a major VM Ware security incident, and now they will pay for my Sec +. Before this happened, they said it didn't pertain to my help desk role haha
That's awesome. And that sounds about right, organizations didn't care until it's too late
Senior SOC Analyst here, would totally be up for communication just to help broaden interest in the field.

The SOC Analyst Roadmap: From Personal Experience. Enjoy!
I was one of those that asked for a roadmap on your previous video. Thanks man, I appreciate the quick upload!
Absolutely! Thank you for the suggestion. Let me know if you have any other request or questions
Josh is great. He has awesome courses as well
Something about the way you deliver the message in the video is definitely unique to all the other videos out there. I like it. Keep it up bro!
I appreciate this, glad it can resonate with you in some way
Aint no way! I started as a geek squad agent too when I was 19 :D am interviewing for a soc analyst position now lol
Awesome man, keep going and keep learning
Thank you :)
Great video. Thank you for taking your time to put out something realistic and honest!
Thank you very much!
Nice, I am currently onto Josh madakors bootcamp... I guess I am on the right track here.
Awesome. I have not gone through his boot camp, but he has provided great information and direction from everything I've seen from him. Keep going
Awesome tips! Thanks bro! ❤
Absolutely. Thanks for watching!
Josh Madakor is the man!
Absolutely!!
Reality information no sugar coat :)new subscriber to your channel
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed.
Thanks, man 👍🏾
You're very welcome, thanks for watching!
this is a great channel
Thank you so much
‘The TH-camrs who do that… do not care about you’ 🤣😭 the way I exploded in laughter.
Thanks for watching 🏴☠️
thank you so much man!
Of course. Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for these information, it helped me a lot since im struggling build my own road map to become a SOC Analyst 🙇
Same bro
This is the exact roadmap I used to become a SOC Analyst.
12 cups is rookie numbers and i can agree alert fatigue, id see 5k+ alerts in a 12hr period fun but also tense
Very tense indeed, keeping up with what should be prioritized can be a lot on a person but as you said, fun. For the right person. We are the right people lol
@@ForeverAnonymous Yeah I had plenty nights coming in and last team left malware sitting for 2 hours and boss would ask me to stop what im doing when i got in to investigate and remedy. Always fun getting to do malware research/reverse engineering. And yeah like you said for the right person its very fun for the non adhd people it may be confusing
@@DefCantGame I love diving deep too, makes me think of pivoting into threat hunting. Spending more time to fully understand one incident rather than a bit of time on a hundred
@@ForeverAnonymous Yes that is what I have been working towards getting into. While I've always been good at rapid detection and response, anytime a pen test is suspected getting to deep dive and try to find information on whos doing it and then things like their linkedin etc and asking the client is "John Doe" running a pentest with links and getting a oh ummm yeah. But yeah going into threat hunting/bounties and such, working towards getting some new certs in the offsec and sans side. but until all those are got still building out recon tools
@@DefCantGame I have adhd too! maybe this is the sign! lol do you guys have groups I can join to? so I have someone to look up when my adhd paralysis creeps in?
Keep at it bratva. Going good 👍
If you haven't id suggest making a playlist..
Thank you! Can you explain the playlist part? Do you just mean putting all my SOC Analyst videos into a playlist?
@@ForeverAnonymous yepo
Will do
thank you!
You're very welcome!
@@ForeverAnonymous Could you make a video regarding SOAR and the future of AI and how it will affect new cybersecurity analyst chances of getting entry level role... well i mean there really isnt a entry job to begin with but you know what i mean.
@@tommypham1101 I will look into this, thank you for the request
For the absolute basics of tech study Aplus certification curriculum, professor messir has videos on these topics as well
🤔
Sir , how many certificates do you have to become a soc analyst
Hello I saw you're an honest youtuber and I highly respect that. I never had an IT job before. However, I've been tinkering computers since I was in 7th grade, building computers from scratch (scrapyard of my school). I also finished the LFS from linux found. I'm moving to intermediate networking. Though, it's from cisco free skills. I already have scripting knowledge also as a hobby to automate most of the task that I do and regex because I do my note taking on vim text editor, Assembly language is also my forte(x86) but I never go to college because I have to work at my father's farm. I really want to hear from you if I have a chance to get into cybersec base on what I know.
There is a lot of nuance. You seem to have a genuine interest in the field, of course you have a chance. In order to get a Cybersecurity job you will need Cybersecurity knowledge. It sounds like you have general computer knowledge and are now transitioning into networking which is exactly what I did. After you get an understanding of networking start learning Cybersecurity concepts
@@ForeverAnonymous Thank you very much! I subscribed as a token of appreciation.
I want need a perfect roadmap
This is exactly what I did
I love this video. I’m finishing my masters in cybersecurity and been applying for six months and got nothing so far 😢. I hope one day it’s worth it b/c I do not want to settle for helpdesk.
Hello, thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoy it. Sounds like you might need to improve your resume
2 things.. #1 - if you NOT getting interviews, it's yo resume and #2 - if you not getting job offers, it's yo interview skills
It's really that simple
Best of luck

Do I need to know any programming languages for Soc?? If yes then, let's say I need python. So do I need to learn it from DSA point of view or like what?
You do not need to know any programming languages. Now, it would be nice to have a familiarity with PowerShell or, yes, maybe Python. We do not use these programming languages though, we just analyze activity that uses them. If you would like to learn Python I have a couple of books in the description that are fantastic. Remember, in the job field you are competing against other candidates. You might not need certain things, but to stand out you should include anything you can.
Thanks a lot for your guidance. As i researched, python can be used for automating tasks in soc. Just wanted to know that if I learn python, then do I need to learn it from DSA point of view, just like Btech students do? Or should I just learn the core then after the books you recommended?
In your opinion: Is it worth having BlueTeam level 1 cert. to start a career as a SOC analyst?
Or it is not recognized by most HRs. ?
From what I've heard, it is a good cert in terms of what it teaches you. Though, I can only vouch for the path I took which is highlighted in this video
4 months of Technical Support internship and 2 of Data Analyst. I started my masters in Fall 2023(Graduating in May 2025), and since then have completed Google CyberSec by Coursera, CompTIA Security+, BTL1, and HTB CDSA. Currently prepping for CCNA and want to complete CYSA + before august. I do a lot of TryHackMe and Blue Team Online Labs. And I am also working on a SOC Lab with some assist from Eric Capuano Blog.
I am actively looking for internships as well.
Do you think I can do anything more to better my chances to get an entry level SOC role once I graduate?
You can definitely get a SOC Analyst job. Absolutely. Something you need to do is transfer all of that knowledge and certifications onto the resume effectively.
@@ForeverAnonymous Thanks. Will do. I also made my University CTF Team. We participate every week in different CTF comps. Do you think I can add that as leadership experience? Or should I just mention it in some section in my resume?
starting from zero cyber security experience & no degree do you think its good to try to go to help desk route and keep upskilling to eventually become a SOC analyst or pentester etc.
That's what I did
@@ForeverAnonymous appreciate you to get a help desk role do i need to get the a+ or is there any other things i can do?
I'm strugle 2 years around Thm 🥴🥹
Do HackTheBox, I did not like Try Hack Me at all
@@ForeverAnonymous yes but in Terms of learning doesnt explain AS a Thm ,but im Not Sure. Also Makador Provide a course maybe would BE a good Option.
Thanks
