The reasons Lezhneva gives for preferring Baroque to Classical Opera singing, are exactly my reasons as well. Italian operas from the 19th century are great, too, but a bit too pathetic and saccharine for my taste. Baroque is very emotional as well, but in a more controlled and more "honest" way.

I find the exact opposite to be true but more power to you.
