      Maybe the new giant trees are the kokiri. The kokiri evolved into the forest itself. A theory with no real evidence, but I think it'd be kinda cool if the forest species turned into the forest itself after hundreds of years. Maybe some kind of dark magic caused them to transform.

    I like to think the kokiri realized they could leave the forest and are now hidden in plain sight. Whether or not she’s a kokiri, I 100% believe that Agitha was at least meant to be a reference to them in Twilight Princess. There’s three women in castle town who share a unique feature that I believe to be a nod to their missing people in TP; Agitha, Telma, and Fanadi all share the trait of having three dots under their eyes (Green, red-orange, and purple of course). Agitha is a child who lives alone with a giant tree in her house and has a fascination with glowing insects (like fairies perhaps?). Telma has red hair and the symbol on her apron could be interpreted as a stylized gerudo symbol. Fanadi has a weeping eye symbol on her forehead and red eyes, a common trait among the sheikah. Also, Fanadi's original japanese name was "Imparess", a play on Impa's name.

    • @anonymousfellow8879
      @anonymousfellow8879 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Zelda in general is guilty of Rule of Cool: introduce something, slap “sacred” or “temple” onto it, then moonwalk backstage. That ain’t mystery, that’s them not caring to really give any context for something they consider to be “just a level.”
      But…the racial conflict in TP and how portions of Gerudo and Twili and Sheikah symbols and the Mirror itself and the Kokiri symbol turn up absolutely everywhere once you know how to spot it?
      Now THAT tells a super interesting subtext story and goes well with the core themes of the game.

      @@mohammedu7105But why do people have to do that for dungeons specifically? There's plenty to theorize about already excluding them. And it's not like they'd have to give us much, all they'd have to do is leave a few hints of what it was, like in OOT and some of TP. Some OOT dungeons are VERY clear with what they were, yet people still theorize about them. Idk, this fear of not having something to theorize about if they told us too much about the dungeons is silly.

    I’m surprised you never mention that the boss room tree looks greyed out compared to other trees in the temple - the same way the Great Deku Tree was after it died - and inside the boss room looks incredibly similar to the watery basement of the Great Deku Tree (metal grates and all). I’d say this is the strongest argument for the Temple being Kokiri Forest.
    The figure on the artwork looks more to me like one of the Monkeys rather than a fairy - perhaps depicting a Monkey using the wind powers of the boomerang. It could also be Faron the light spirit itself, being that Faron is a monkey in this game.

      @@rezahydra Locations in TP are quite different than other Zelda titles. Hyrule Encylopedia actually hints that massive shifts in land occur between eras which accounts for different locations, and in TP's case, the massive chasms we occasionally see in the land.
      The Temple of Time itself is seemingly moved from Castle Town to the Lost Woods. I speculate this is because maybe the Temple of Time should not be so close to the general public.

      @@IamCanadian3333 I mean specifically in reference to OoT. You can align the map in many different ways to fit with OoT, even counting Temple of Time (though as said in the video, Sacred Grove/Lost Woods doesn’t make sense by nature), but none of them have Ordon in the location of Lon Lon. Kokiri Village on the other hand? There’s certainly a few. Though this I will deny is the least prominent point. The house styles and locations, even with the stream in the middle scream Kokiri Village in every way. And that’s without mentioning again Link’s own home which is just the same thing but expanded to now be a true full house compared to the OoT counterpart

  • @Buphido
    @Buphido 3 ปีที่แล้ว +342

    If we conclude, that the Forest Temple and the Temple of Time are all included in the massively expanded lost woods and considering the woods being as magical as they are, we could just as well conclude, that the Kokiri are still living in the Lost Woods, but in a part that the woods won't let outsiders into. The Link in OoT was an exception, as he grew up with the Kokiri, but Twilight Princess Link, who is a grown ass almost-adult with no connection to the Hero of Time other than his spirit, would not enjoy that privilege.

    This might be total crap, but perhaps by TP, the Kokiri, under the guardianship of their new Deku Tree, had already taken the form of Koroks. Without the Great Flood, it might seem unnecessary, but Breath of the Wild proves that some evolutions may occur even if what we perceive as their original cause, don't happen; the Rito evolved from the Zora, due to the aforementioned flood, yet in BotW both they AND the Zora still live side by side. BotW's own spot in said time line might be questionable for some, but in it, regardless of time, the Kokiri are gone, and the Koroks exist. The point of this is that, in BotW, most people cannot SEE the Koroks; they are basically unnoticeable to all but a few souls, and can linger practically anywhere. Even that Link, who can see Koroks, can't ALWAYS see them; they may duck and hide from him, as he approaches, or wait till he's finished their game to reveal their presence. Even when moving around to get him to give chase, they make an effect for him to follow, but aren't themselves visible. While it might seem like a trait only the BotW Koroks have, maybe the TP Koroks also have it, and due to their nature, or the danger in the world, they are simply hidden. They don't have a history with this Link, and even many who might've been present to see Link c l aim the Master Sword, in BotW, still avoid Mr. Hero, just because that's how they normally are.
    Perhaps they are there, but just invisible; waiting and watching to see what type of turn the world will take.

      Agreed, I like this concept of Koroks (or any iteration of forest spirits) being hidden and mysterious. From what I recall, the Kokiri and the Koroks are referred to as “forest spirits” which, to me, makes their physical appearance more arbitrary.

    • @aaronolson6736
      @aaronolson6736 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      kinda tangential but maybe also evidence to this point, The Rito in BotW may very well be Loftwings having finally come to the land of Hyrule given the fact that Zora are also present. Even though the race was present before the cause of their existence was very different. Koroks would have 3 reasons by this logic; WW is a form taken to help maintain nature across the islands, BotW was to become hidden in plain sight, TP would be due to dwelling entirely in the forest and result of the Wind Fairy.

    I've always thought it likely that the skull kid we encounter in Twilight Princess could be THE GHOST OF the skull kid from Ocarina of Time/ Majora's Mask. The lantern he carries as he leads us deeper and deeper into the forest is nearly identical to the one's the poes carry in TP, plus I just get the sense Skull Kid is supposed to the one and only of his kind. I think It would be so fittingly eery and sad to imagine skull kid waiting decades upon decades for his favorite playmate to wander back into the woods, even in the afterlife. Since we're on the subject, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the Sacred Grove from TP, which are theorized by some to be the ruins Ocarina of Time's Castle Town due to the stone ruins surrounding the area and of course the appearance of the Temple of Time. It's been theorized that the Castle Town in TP isn't the same Castle Town from OoT and that the Royal Family migrated north after the events of OoT (possibly due to some sort of war with Ganondorf and/or the Gerudo that left the original Castle Town devastated), which explains why Death Mountain is to the east in TP rather than to the north like it is in virtually every other Zelda game. It could be theorized that after the Hylians moved north, the ruins of original Castle Town were overgrown by woods and became the Sacred Grove. Though of course there are some things that do contradict this, such as the locations of Zora's Domain, Zora River, and Lake Hylia (but that could just be explained away as typical Zelda geographic fuckery), but I always thought it was an interesting theory nonetheless as I can think of no other explanation as to why the Temple of Time somehow moved from HCT to being surrounded by a huge forest (also the location of the Sacred Grove on TP's map in relation to Death Mountain and Faron/Ordon Woods kinda makes sense).
    I know this doesn't have much to do with the video in question, but watching it did makes me think of this and didn't have anywhere else to post it.

    • @DracoMagnius
      @DracoMagnius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Perhaps the Sacred Grove isn't actually geographically where it appears to be, but Link gets teleported to its actual location via Lost Woods magic much like in OoT how Link can get to Death Mountain and Zora's Domain from the Lost Woods?

    • @vcdonovan5943
      @vcdonovan5943 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe it's the ToT that moved? It's a temple guarding the gateway to the Sacred Realm. In TP we see that it links to a dungeon that appears to be outside time and space, with golden light gleaming through the windows. One can speculate that the ToT dungeon in TP is the Temple of Light - or at least a portion of it - in the sacred realm.
      My point is that ToT screws with time/space. The Lost Woods screws with time/space. Seems to reason that either one of those places could end up anywhere else, even together. The ruins around the temple in TP could be a portion of HCT that the ToT took with it when it moved.
      However, TP clearly establishes a connection between OoT and ALttP by showing the Master Sword in a wooded grove just like it appears in ALttP, alluding that the ruins of the ToT decayed completely by the time of ALttP leaving only the Master Sword in its pedestal in the Sacred Grove.
      But people often wonder how the forest got from eastern Hyrule in OoT to western Hyrule in ALttP. But if you look at the fog of war surrounding Castle Town on the Hyrule Atlas in OoT, you can see a small line of trees behind the clouds just to the west of Hyrule Castle... there's a forest there.

    For the fate of the Kokiri, I feel they already left the Faron woods, taking the young Deku Tree with them. They went on to establish the Kokiri Forest and the Lost Woods in a new region to the north, northwest. This could explain why in games like A Link to the Past and BotW, the Lost woods are in an entirely different area across the map

    Half-way through the vid. I'm going to just throw this out there that there was MUCH of the Kokiri Forest and Lost Woods that was not explored or mapped. On top of this, I do think that the forest grew and expanded into what was the Hyrule Field from Ocarina of Time, eventually taking it over almost completely.
    The Old Temple of TIme and castle town was taken over by the forest and I'm sure that Link and Skullkid remained friends through all of this right up until the very end.
    Ordon Village, I believe is the old Kokiri Village from Ocarina, established officially when Link and Malon moved there.
    I'll shut up now and keep watching.

    • @dayshallcomeagain
      @dayshallcomeagain 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I personally don't subscribe to the Northern Expansion Theory. My personal theory is that the temple of time found in Twilight Princess is the remains of the ancient sealed temple, now overgrown and abandoned. The temple of time from ocarina of time is thus a completely different temple in a completely different place, though it shares the same name. This was already done with Lanayru's temple of time in skyward sword, so it's possible it was done again in some later time, that time being the Era of Chaos, built by Rauru to protect the Triforce. Given the pristine state it's in when TP Link travels back in time, it's safe to say that it was well taken care of, likely by the Sheikah Tribe. The Sky Folk were likely involved in it as well, given the Dominion Rod is found there.
      I doubt that Ordon Village is the remains of Kokiri Forest. If anything, the actual kokiri village is likely just somewhere further east where we can't explore in-game. It's that simple. Ordon Village is simply another settlement, established sometime during the gap between Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask by humans, not hylians, given all of them except Link have rounded ears. This seems to imply TP Link isn't actually from Ordon Village, but elsewhere, likely castle town before he and his family moved there when he was too young to remember.

    there's another reason why the Kokiri/Korok's aren't seen in TP. Koroks normally can't be seen by people, either being invisible to them, hidden from sight, or are disguised as something else. TP Link simply might not have the ability to see them, and thus we can't see them either. For all we know, they could have been right under our nose the entire time.

That being said, Twilight Princess Link probably never would have been able to enter and meet a Kokiri.

Theoretically a group of Hylians who returned to Skyloft, after it was abandoned at the end of Skyward Sword. If the Oocca were up in the sky with the Wind Fish and Levias the whole time, only really reconnecting with the surface through the royal family on occasion, it would be entirely possible that the Oocca hid the Fused Shadow in a deep part of the forest far away from any life, locked behind traps that could only be disabled through wind.

It's implied in Breath of the Wild that Koroks cannot be seen by most humans, and only children can see them. Link in that game seems to be a rare exception, and can see them, but maybe that's not always the case. In Wind Waker, Link is a child, so he can see them just fine, but maybe because he's an adult in Twilight Princess, they are around him, but completely invisible to him. My thought is that the forest temple is the husk of the old deku tree (there is even a pond inside at the bottem in both games), Ordon is Kokiri village inhabited by hylians, the Temple of Time's entrance is the OoT's sacred medow (You enter a portal to the interior of the Temple of Time), and the only one "alive" to remember how to find it is Oot/MM's Skull Kid.
    Edit: It is possible that some oher disaster rolles through between Oot and TP, causing the giant chasms in the forest which as a preservation measure, had the kokiri become koroks. No longer needing to protect the kokiri or their emerald, the curse of the lost woods dissapates, allowing both adults and bokoblins to enter freely.

Never even realized when you go through the first door, you aren't inside a tree but actually in a forest of humongous trees! And the way it spans across multiple of these huge trees. That is so so cool thank u to this video for making me appreciate one of my fav zeldas even more

    My theory:
    I feel like the Kokiri “forever children” are actually just forest spirits created by the Deku tree to help the Deku tree in any way, like raise Link (for Link wasn’t like the kokiri, cause he was a normal Hylian). So with each new Deku tree comes with different helping forest spirits to fit the trees needs. Down the lineage of Link, we see that link is no longer living in the forest but with his own kind (Hylians). So the Deku tree lineage didn’t need to create the Kokiri children because they simply didn’t need to take care of Link. I feel that the Skull kids and the monkeys are just spirits that live in the Deku tree domain but aren’t as connected to the tree as the Kokiri, for they a little bit more free will and can leave the forest (Kokiri could not leave).
    Now for Sarah, I feel that the Deku tree was attached because Ganon thought for sure that he was the sage of the forest. But because Sarah was also a Kokiri, the Deku past that responsibility on to her because he knew he would be the first target. And that is why when all the Kokiri vanished and not Sarah was because she was still holding on to the last piece of the Deku tree that kept the forest sage lineage alive.
    Now fairies (not healing fairies, like that from the great fairies foutains).The fairies guide the Kokiri but fairies have a bit more free will than the Kokiri (major’s mask). The fairies seemed to only want to be with forest spirits which is why Skull kid had a better connection with the fairies than Link did in Mejor mask. And Link couldn’t get a fairy on his own, which is why the Deku tree ordered Navi to help you outside the forest. So when link got his fairy of course the Kokiri were shocked and happy cause it meant that Link could be a forest spirit after all. But this wasn’t the case for Navi was ordered to help carry out the mission, that’s it.
    Last thing, I refer to the Kokiri as helping spirits with no other purpose, but that’s an understatement. I feel the the Deku tree loves them because they are apart of him and gave them a bit of freewill (like how they behave). So in other words the Kokiri are his children and that is why there is such a strong connection between the Kokiri and the Deku. Sarah could have been the most favorite because of how fairly she treated Link when he was growing up, which is why she was closest with the tree in spirit receiving the honor of sage.
    Short: Kokiri are just spirts connected to the tree, and are there to help the tree in every way possible, and when the new Deku tree rises, new spirits take form.
