It was probably a Employee that was behind the device because it had to take some time to install and the information and/or the device itself still needs to be retrieved without being noticed.
Or the owner.......People don't make a lot of money owning a Dollar Tree so he probably has a buddy who makes the money and the owner gets a cut of the deal.

IKR, I couldn't believe that a grown woman wasn't looking at her accounts online at least every few days. Even if she used her credit card and is very low tech, she could call the phone system and listen to the recent purchases.
Always keep the skimmer. Don't give it back to the store, because the people working at the store could be the ones skimming.

Stores need to be held liable when these devices are found. There is no excuse for this level of brazen crime to happen without being detected. Retailers, protect and check your machines or else pay up for any monies stolen from customers!

Does the scanner keep the information and the thieves have to come back and retrieve it? Businesses should be liable for this, they need to check their check out devices every hour now.
These Dollar trees are so nosy and into people's business when they come in there's no way the manager who is constantly always at the cash register did not know this was put there

The store has to know because there are camera everywhere.
The card machines should be transparent like electronic devices in prisons. Would make skimmer detection a lot easier and or difficult to install a skimmer.

Unless you're going to an actual bank atm to withdraw your money, you're still at risk of that atm having a skimmer attached to it.
Absolutely no one should be using a debit card to make purchases to begin with.
It would have been nice if they showed us what the skimmer looked like ATTACHED to the machine! Then we'd know exactly what to look out for.

A skimmer on a store debit machine has to be an employee. Who else could possibly have placed that there? That's what's crazy to me.
Exactly, and the register area is always well monitored so it couldn't be all that hard to go back and see who installed it
It takes 2 seconds to clip the skimmer onto the terminal.
A customer could easily distract the cashier while their friend places the device
You can't even run an errand, shop for food, supplies, without having to worry if you will get carjacked, assaulted, robbed or even make it thru the day to RETURN home. It's just so upsetting and infuriating. This world is full of discord now everywhere. I still continue to pray tho, Harmony seems so out of reach anymore. 🙏

Not when you have set up your bills auto debited. You would have 10 or more people you would have to call to give them your new card number! Total nightmare.

A lot of people in the comments are saying store employees. I'm not ruling that out. High probability. But, there are thieves that use distraction techniques at short-staffed stores like this one. One guy asks for help, while the other guy attaches the skimmer.

Dead ass, an old timer from brick told me that also. He said never to buy gas after a rain storm cause the tanks pull in water apparently
That just happened in Camden. Two times at the same gas station. People had cars dying all over the roads. Some cars didn't make it out of the station. Unbelievable. I am glad that guy was eagle eyed to spot the skimmer, he probably saved some people their money.

I live in Bayonne! And there are times when I know there is X amount of $ in my banking account and then it's a couple of dollars lower. Yup, thank YT because they made me hip to this device, also!!! Also, very rarely am I using my debit card! The machine looks different with this degice on it - not that one can readiky tell but the real machine is sleek. Not big plastic sides, etc

No one should swipe their debit card because that’s your money. A credit card on the other hand is “their”money and they (bank) will have to deal with it while it’s getting investigated.

Always pull on the face of the machine before you use your card, even at bank atm's.i usually use the little lip around the number pad, just give it a firm tug.
Give the skimmer to the police, don't let the employees have it.
This chain is a nightmare anyway. Getting impossible to find companies to feel good about patronizing.

I got scanned at a Kroger gas pump. Now I check the pumps everywhere I go.
I have a gas company credit card and only go to those stations. I feel like it is easier to keep track of that usage on a statement, plus the damage will be contained if the card is compromised. I also saw some advice to use the pumps closer to the door, since those farther out of sight of employees are more likely to have the scanners on them.
How is it that all these skimmers are on camera but no arrest are ever made - are cops stupid - find a skimmer and stake it out to see who is retrieving it at the store. All I ever see is we found another skimmer - no arrest were made but we did find a skimmer !

I don't and people that have paperless billing don't either . I am on paperless billing. I call my banks toll free number to check my balance and see which purchases have cleared.
Use mobile pay from your phone, like Apple Pay etc. Your card number is tokenized so they don’t get your actual card number. Also, consider using credit card instead of debit because of the additional fraud protection

I was scammed at family dollar in Michigan!! I was pissed of went off on the manager he knew! I told him you are being investigated and I'm letting the community know not to shop here!
Never ever use your debit card in stores that are under staffed.
I just has my card charged more than $350 in fraudulent charges after visiting a 5 Below store. I got it straightened out and I got my money back but I will not be going back to that store

There a shimmer that inserts into the card port, it can not be seen.
But it makes the card a tighter fit. It needs a tiny camera to get the pin.
Lock your cards when not in use. Check your accounts for activity twice aday.
I shop in that store about once a week.

I just went yesterday at 6 pm to Dollar Tree, and today at 4:15 a.m., my money was taking two different states over 3000. This is the second time since July 2023. My card was used twice in Texas casco 1600$ and 1200 $and other stores. When I went to use my card today, that's how I found out.i call the stores and the lady told me some man was used my card. Tomorrow I will call the bank where my money was taking and other places. I don't know know much I can do because I don't live in that state, but if I have to I will fly and investigate my self because they are using my personal information and stealing my money. 😢😢I will go tomorrow to the dollar tree and chek the cameras and see if I can see anything . I can't take this anymore. 😢😢😢
