The tunnel was used possibly as an escape route to st Mary’s church, I actually found a wooden handle sword in the tunnel which my brother gave away to the war museum

I enjoyed that. I discovered the village and did a walk just after Christmas (video on my channel).

Well done. Another great video. Didn't know there were 5 lodges. Thought there were 3.

Thanks Steve, there are three visible today, but the original boundary of the park covered Bishop’s Walk, Addington Palace and part of Shirley. The other two were on that side of which only one remains. They are on a map from 1912 as well as on the Croydon documents. Hope that helps 👍🏻

Opposite the church there was a sweet shop as kids we spent our bus fare money there, on the way home from Shirley secondary school as it was then

That fairly standard looking property had been so many things over the years, Peter. Nice that you have those memories.

The tunnel runs to the church at coney hall roundabout . My mother worked in Henry V111 house behind the church where I used to play in the tunnel which ws blocked 100 yards in i was born 1 day after your parents marriage

I lived next door to the man who wrote "Addington A History", Frank Warren.

The middle lodge had a parrot outside who swore at passers by
