Waouh, quel magnifique travail et un précieux savoir faire ! ♥
Que precioso trabajo, que maravillosas manos, como me gustaria hacerlo por mi misma, mis felicitaciones señor, sin dudas el respeto de todos para usted,
Dear Mike: Thanks for your question and interest. I use both gold and silver cloisonne wire. I currently have 4 different dimensions of wire that I use for different purposes, effects, and kinds of projects. My primary wire is .004 x .050 inches, which I have custom made as it is not a standard stock dimension. My experience is that cloisonne has a relatively long learning curve and requires buckets of patience, but the work can eventually be artistically rewarding. Thanks again. Don 703-244-3757 Dviehman@comcast. net
Beautiful work and really nice video. Thanks for sharing your process, it was enlightening. Liked how you use your samples to plan your color arrangements in your pieces, my moving them around to see what colors work best together.
What a beautiful and talented man...thanx so much for sharing your process! I'm inspired. I just got my first lot of Thompsons transparent enamels in the post today...now off I go to experiment. Thanx again!
WOW! The process is intricate. Your pieces are exquisite! Loved seeing your work space with all of the plastic spoons set out with tiny bits of enamel. I bet no one is allowed near there when it's set up that way. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hello Don Viehman..I just have watched the whole creating process and its amazing how delightfully your hands work together so can create such wonderful art. I have sold at work some love cloisonné old pagoda cup from Chine..mad on brass... so I am close to few old one..every day. Was lovely to see it how its made :) Thank you and all the best to all of you there from Prague 8-)
Beautiful work! Have tried several unsuccessful approaches to get warmer colors to stay put on top of even a couple of layers of supposedly hard flux. I tried to find a source for the Bovano # 3 you refer to but can't seem to find a supplier. Relatively new to enameling and am getting a bit frustrated with my results. Thank you for your help.
Hi David: Thank you for your kind comments. The wire is nichrome wire. I use 18 guage; thinner is too flexible. I have not purchased any in a long time. I used to buy it from Enamel Emporium in Texas. Not sure if they are still in business or still carry it. Sometimes you can get it at a good hardware store or they can order it for you. It is not expensive. It takes approximately a foot (and a 3 or 4 inch mesh firing rack) to make a jewelry size trivet (really should be called a quadrivet :) ). Thanks. Don Viehman 703-244-3757
One other question if I may ask. What is the clear adhesive for the wire. I have been using the Blue stick product from Rio but don't really think much of it. Double thanks.
Don you have the best enameling on the web; I have been comparing across the globe. Question: You use shaped wire on your firing rack; what kind of wire is it? Where might I find some? Thanks. Dave
What size wire do you use? Is it gold, silver or do you use both. I haven't tried Cloisonné yet but I'm intrigued and your video really gives me incentive.
Hello, very like handmade, see your work is beautiful, can please teach you, cloisonne glaze is make your own or buy? Hope to receive your reply, I wish smoothly.
Hi Terry: Thank you for your comment. Over the years I have created cloisonné pieces of frogs (both in the form of wall pieces and jewelry pieces) and certainly roses (jewelry). I do not currently have either theme in completed form, although I have many pieces with other themes that are complete. Much of my work now is also custom ordered so that clients receive exactly what they might like.Jewelry pieces typically range from $500 to $1800 depending on complexity and whether the setting is silver or gold. Wall pieces are commonly $900 to $2500 again depending on complexity and the kind of framing desired. Please let me know what sparks your interest. You can always reach me at Dviehman@comcast.net or 703-244-3757. Thank you! Don Viehman

The thin flat shields are typically made from a durable material like polycarbonate or fiberglass. You can find them at specialty retailers or online stores that focus on protective gear.

Hi Terry: I currently do not have a finished butterfly piece (or bird). I could make a lovely small piece (approx 3/4" W x 1/2" to 5/8" H) for you with an open wing butterfly set in Sterling silver for somewhere in the range of $450 to $525. Is this what you are thinking about? If you wish to email, it is best and more timely to email me directly at Dviehman@comcast.net or you can call directly also at 703-244-3757. Thank you. нет. Они очень маленькая компания, расположенная в Сиэтле, только Вашингтон. Они могут быть готовы, чтобы попытаться отправить в Россию. Но я уверен, что это будет трудно. Если есть компания в Москве, которая продает эмаль, что компания может быть в состоянии импортировать эмаль непосредственно из Ниномия Эмаль Ко в Японии.
I am not sure if I understand the question being asked. Vitreous enamel is a type of glass that will bond with certain metals when sufficient heat is appropriately applied. Although I use a small brush to apply the powdered glass to an object being enameled, I am not using paint. One type of vitreous enamel that I use is semi-transparent and when fired correctly it can create a wonderful "opalescent" shaded look to the color. I think this is what you are seeing and about which you are inquiring. Thank you for your question. Don Viehman 703-244-3757 Dviehman@comcast.net

One other question if I may ask. What is the clear adhesive for the wire. I have been using the Blue stick product from Rio but don't really think much of it. Double thanks.
The adhesive I use is Klyr-Fire liquid adhesive. It is water soluble and able to be diluted. Burns away cleanly.
