You actually motivated me to completely change my life. Short version is I watched the video when you quit your job to ride Mtbs on the internet. I had a factory job I hated at the time so I thought if you quit a good job to do something else then I should try something else. I devised a plan to move to Colorado and start a business. I did and lived there for years. The business gave me a life I never thought possible. Now I live back in Kentucky and I have a mini van where the seats fold into the floor and I some stuff that turns it into a no build camper van. Now I am able to travel around mountain biking different places while still getting to be a dad. You played a massive role in that and I thank you and hope to be able to meet you someday and tell you the whole story. So yeah I went out and road something new 😊
Watching your videos during lockdown def got me motivated to get out to the Tahoe Rim trail! Nowadays your videos KEEP me riding!! So many injuries across the yrs doung different stuff but watching and listening to how you approach biking has helped to shift my view and how i approach riding a bike and skiing. Appreciate your advice!!
Don’t be discouraged I bought a bike 3years ago after watching your videos. I’m from Reno and I’ve made it my mission to ride all the places in the la sierra you post. Gonna try and make it out to everstoke also’ wanna say thanks for getting me into my favorite hobby!
Hey Brian, just wanted to let you know that I just did Gooseberry Mesa (North Rim) because of your recent video. I have also gone to the Santa Cruz Flow trail in the Demo forest. Keep calling us out to ride these trails, some of us are listening. Thanks for all the recon and keep it up!
What a WONDERFUL sight to see: single track paralleling dumb, boring, hot, dusty, rutted, stupid fire road! LOVE IT! "Friends don't let friends ride fire road!!!"
Thanks for showcasing this trail! Brought back memories of a trip to Downieville many years ago. The landscape sure looks different now after the Dixie Fire. Wise advice being mindful of the poison oak, I had shin blisters for weeks after my trip.
i happened on your 50 state shred some years ago and more and more, it influenced me to ride more places. initially a vacation in phoenix, then cross-country trip to help move a friend let me ride CO and moab a little. next year - a longer XC with some van camping! so yes - your vids do have an effect :)
Started back MTB after 20 years off and found your channel 4 years ago, been riding ever since from southern states FL_NC to over a year in NZ love riding and bought a Ripmo because you rode one everywhere. She’s 3.5 years old and still going strong, Thinking about getting a Toyota mini van for trips and camping with fridge and power. Plus 25-30 mpg hwy reliability and able to sleep in her.
Bravo BKXC pour la vidéo, paysage magnifique et encore une belle sortie VTT comme toujours 😍👍, pour les voitures électrique j'adore la Tesla Model Y très bien pour y mettre un VTT 😉
Hip/backpack - Take a look at the Henty Packs. They are mostly a hip pack with shoulder straps that have a mesh upper for breathability. It really works well. The newer style I believe has a 100oz bladder available. I have the older 70oz and it is good for most days.
Those yellow flowers are really potent if you are allergic. I am not allergic to much, but get me close to a big field of those and I feel it. Heading up to Everstoke in about a week and a half
Gotta get rid of those plastic bottles Brian. I switched over to Bivo and never looked back. Both the standard bottle and the insulated are great. No plastic taste, crazy fast flow, easy to wash, and the insulated bottles are amazing on really hot rides.
I know, I am a damn fool for keeping these plastic bottles around for so long. Tried the Bivo and it just endlessly dripped out of the top of the bottle. Love the idea of doing a steel bottle. But for now I just need to toss these old bottles filling me up with microplastics!
Great video man, love the content as always. INCREDIBLE area! would love love love to ride this. Ive had those same thoughts on my rides as typically I ride by myself as well, have fun but be careful haha
SL ebikes do have a smaller battery, but they should be paired with a smaller motor as well. At least mine is. So the battery should last pretty much just as long as a regular ebike... you'll just have to work a bit harder on the climbs. For instance, the Levo is supposed to give you up to 4x your power, while the SL only gives you 2x. Personally, I chose a Levo SL because I still wanted a workout when I climb. I just didn't want to be totally dead after doing so, or possibly having the ability to do the ride twice instead of just once.
I haven't ridden this yet! Looks pretty great. I think this could be worked in from a shuttle to the top of Hough, but like you said, it puts you in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of 4x4 track to get out. I'd want to do that with someone else rather than solo.
Yeah, pretty sure it's a 10 mile "traverse" to get to the bottom of Hough if you do the shuttle of this. I think I'd rather do the suffer climb than the endless traverse!
Rode Hough last year as hurricane Hillary had arrived. Rode mostly under full rain all the way down. Me and a bear had an encounter as well. Was an adventure for sure.
That rocky stretch through Indian Falls 2 totally reminds me of the deer trails that I ride in the scabland coulees of Eastern Washington. Especially when you said..."welcome to Hell". Lol. And regarding e bikes, I concur, lightweight, small motor, with a giant battery would be ideal.
Dang, what an awesome trail. Those rock formations alone would have made the climb worth it for me. I also have some bony hips lol! I ride with a Camelback glide belt. No issues. Could give that a try.
Can't speak for others but I'm out riding now. I started with a Trek Marlin 7 just last season to get my feet wet and loved it so much that I upgraded (well, added) to the new Orbea Occam 150/160.
My wife and I have been riding Indian Falls oab for a few years now and yes on ebikes. You’re probably aware that the prior to this year had to ride 1500 feet and 4 miles of dirt road before you got to singletrack. Now thanks to the awesome Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship and their trail building wizadry that road climb has been reduced to about a mile. As for ebikes, don’t think the Ibis ebike is the best ebike to opine about handleability…from what I understand it’s a bit of a pig. That’s not to say that ebikes aren’t as maneuverable or playful as acoustic bikes but you should try and get your hands on an Orbea Wild, Pivot shuutle LT or Specialized Levo. Enjoy your videos. Happy Trails
We just rode up chandler loop then up Taylor creek to grizzly ridge, then to the top on the upper mt hough trail and down Indian falls trail, we were on E bikes very fun ride! You are a stud riding up Indian falls on an acoustic bike! (Was that your boat near the bottom? )
Consider a Ford PowerBoost F150-it will power your camper (7200w@30amps), and tow it, fuel mileage driving normal will be around 25mpg (mine does- 4x4 super crew, best 32mpg). Stupid fast (faster than a raptor stock vs stock) . With the way you do drive places, even if you do cut back, you will forever be looking and waiting for chargers. I’ve used mine to tow my camper from Va to California and more. Stopped where ever and power up the hot water, a/c, microwave and had a place to sleep. My truck has ran nearly 100 hours straight doing driving and power the camper for sleeping. Stayed in many state parks that said no generator after quiet hour and I had my truck on the whole time when generators need to be turned off-why? Cause it’s quiet, doesn’t run constantly and ubiquitous. Good luck with whatever you do! But dodge sucks😂
Very nice!! Love hearing the experience. I should have clarified that the camper will just be parked at Everstoke forever and never moved, no way I'm towing anything anywhere!!
Get another tiny home on wheels over a travel trailer. Travel trailer will be drafty in the winter, too many entry points for rodents, roof not meant for the snow load at your elevation, etc. On a separate note, BONC has been doing a lot of trailbuilding at the parliament trails, all volunteer work. Would be awesome to see some aluminum BONC pedals from TrailOne.
I've gotta get back out to Parliament soon, they are killing it out there! Definitely some drawbacks with the travel trailer, but a tiny house is at least twice as expensive!
I got the Ioniq 5 bud. I like the car, lots of tech, long range package. The charging infrastructure here in BC is reasonably good for all EVs. Read up on repair issues, Hyundai is happy to sell you an EV, but if you have a problem with the main battery, it can be pretty expensive to replace. Less f an issue with Tesla I think. Not sure the solar set up at ‘everstoke’ can charge your EV effectively. Good luck. 😊
How are you liking the HD6 now after riding it for quite a while? I've watched most reviews of it, but there is not that much info/vids from actual owners of it. Been looking at building a new bike up over the coming off-season, and the HD6 is in the top 3 contenders right now. Some people claim its a bit "too much" on mellower stuff, because of the 180mm fork, and mullet rear wheel. That it really likes the steeper stuff. But seems like its working just fine for you on more flowy stuff?
Guys do you have any tip against flys and mosquitos during climbing? They make me go mad and I feel like I burn a lot more energy swatting them. I've tried 1-2 mosquito sprays, but they don't do much if at all.
If you want to buy an Ioniq I would recommend waiting until Q4 when they're scheduled to switch to the NACS charging port so you can use Tesla's supercharger network.
Another issue with ebikes is charging them if you are camping. You can buy chargers that give you another charge or so, but the ebikes are definitely more of a money pit than regular bikes.
For sure! I'm lucky enough to have solar panels and a nice Bluetti in my van, so I can get away with a bit more remote charging. But if I was trying to charge an ebike for me AND the wife, then it becomes a bit much.
I try to ride fairly often, but 4h seems like a crazy amount to drive. I don't have enough miles in my personal tank to justify making that kind of drive. It seems silly to spend more time in the car - spending money on gas - than on the bike. And the longer the drive, the more difficult it is to avoid the hotter times of day. I don't think the novelty of a new trail versus the ones I like that are less than 15 minutes away really justifies the effort+cost regularly.
Id love to ride places like this but not being able to drive limits my options and where I live there is absolutely nothing like this at all. Have to stick with riding along canals and a few short treks through the woods
It should be. I've made that drive a few times. There is a supercharger in Gardnerville. Then just need to get a good charge in Reno and then highway 70 will take you to Everstoke and you will have plenty to get back down to Truckee or Reno.
@@mtbingadventures1551 Sure you can make it work but it can get stressful. I drive from San Diego to Mammoth twice a month and charging can get to you, especially when a station goes down and you gotta drive the opposite of your route to make it anywhere- at midnight. When in San Diego, it's amazing. I also have a Rav4 prime which is excellent for long drives.
Get a 2015 Tacoma and build a little overland rig. You'll need 4wd if you're going to be at Everstoke in the winter. Get the electric car for the trips back and forth to the Bay.
yes!! your rides are inspirational, and help satisfy my bike fix, keep up the good work. yes, get an ebike! even nate hills has one. youre ruling out a large and growing audience by not incorporating ebiking into your channel. Id subscribe!
You can shuttle this ride with Yuba Expeditions, instead of doing the 3.5K climb. You either have to plant a car at the base of the trail or do a 10 mile fire road ride back to South Park.
They just announced a "double down" shuttle where they bring you up Hough, pick you up at the bottom of Hough, then back up to the top of Hough, then pick you up at the bottom of Indian Falls and then drive you back to the shop! Makes it so much better.
That's a nice day on the bike. Why not build another tiny house, one for just you and Sarah (sp?)? That way she has a more comfortable place to work. Then you can rent it once your situation changes.
Very expensive and/or time consuming. If we can get an area cleared we can basically get the travel trailer in the next day. Tiny house is $100,000, travel trailer is $35,000. If we can make the RV last for a few years it will give us a great bridge to eventually build something substantial!
@@bkxc Tiny house prices are way higher than I thought. My parents bought a used RV a few years ago and it's been okay. If you're buying a new one and do maintenance I'm sure it'll be fine. Good luck!
I watch your videos fairly often, I just can't get out on the trails and ride. TBI/Traumatic Brain Injury back in 2017, not exactly safe to ride even with a helmet on after such an event.
The problem with your lease idea is, if you put 30k a year on it, better plan on paying double what you're used to with penalties. Good thing you can write everything off for taxes.
If you’re driving 30,000 miles in a year not only is leasing not a great idea but probably neither is ev. That charging time will really cut into your trips. Not only that but the logistics during trips will increase significantly. While finding charging stations there in California and other major population centers might not be a big problem finding solutions on some of your more out there trips could pose major problems. I’d hate to see your content drop off due to logistical problems like that. What ev is going to make bike transport an issue?
ummm, just financially speaking, the more miles you. put on the EV and faster, the sooner you break even and lower the overall/lifecycle cost. the savings come from marginal cost of electric energy vs. gasoline. you have to drive the ev for it to pay off.
This guy reminds me of my brother but gets to mountain bike all the time and doesn't have kids. Brian don't ever have kids, or you'll end up in Kansas and never mountain bike.
You talking about getting an electric car while also worrying about the range of an e-bike. Your range anxiety with an electric car could be severe haha. You might have better luck buying a vehicle from a more reliable brand. Anyways, nice video and nice ride.
Glad you enjoyed it!! Haha, that is a funny dichotomy. I figure I'll be doing the same drive to Everstoke over and over and over, so I'll have it dialed in pretty good if I get an EV.
Great video and awesome trail! I think you should try some different E-bikes. If you have light one with a small motor, then you need a smaller battery and you can go just as long as the big bikes. Are you often going for rides that are longer than 30-40km/18-25 miles ? I am usually done and tired way before my battery is all out. Also if you have a really good E-bike with a carbon frame and good suspension they are super nimble and fun to ride. More riding = More fun :D
Driving for four hours for a day's trip? You Americans must've really lost the feeling for distances with your weird units 😅. If something is four hours of driving away, that's at least a two night stay for me 😂
I'm watching older videos and this pops up...posted 4 minutes ago. My first time watching a fresh video.❤
Beautiful!! Love to hear it
Best part of those videos is feeling the pure joy of riding through the screen thanks to your enthusiasm!

The way the rocks are jammed in upright along the trails is amazing...love that.

@@bkxc hahah totally understand the RAM issues with the van, I wouldnt go back if i went through the same thing too
Living in Mammoth Lakes and traveling to Tahoe/quincy/Graeagle is just not feasible with my Model Y. I would not repeat.
Hopefully we'll have a charger for you at Everstoke by the end of the year!
I can highly suggested you to buy ford f150 lightning, ford mustang mach e, or Volkswagen id4 for sure 😉
Nice! I love the suggestions
I'm not skinny, quite the opposite, haha. But I have a osprey seral 7 hip back that is very comfortable.
Nice!
🔥
Get a 2015 Tacoma and build a little overland rig. You'll need 4wd if you're going to be at Everstoke in the winter. Get the electric car for the trips back and forth to the Bay.
That would be pretty cool!
The Tesla makes sense. I've got one. I have solar on the house so I don't pay to charge it. Also, my company pays me mileage for fuel.
That's awesome!
Have you considered evacuating Kalifornia? $5 a gallon is ludicrous.
I hear you but you’re not doing a 50 state shred in a leased vehicle.
Nope, not a chance!
yes!! your rides are inspirational, and help satisfy my bike fix, keep up the good work. yes, get an ebike! even nate hills has one. youre ruling out a large and growing audience by not incorporating ebiking into your channel. Id subscribe!
Great point!
Lmnt is not available in ireland
Ah, interesting!
Good luck!
i do at greenway parke bike trel
I watch your videos fairly often, I just can't get out on the trails and ride. TBI/Traumatic Brain Injury back in 2017, not exactly safe to ride even with a helmet on after such an event.
Glad you still enjoy the vids!
come back to Draper utah. 😭
It'd be great to get back there!
3500ft climb, WOW
And a little bit more by the end!
The problem with your lease idea is, if you put 30k a year on it, better plan on paying double what you're used to with penalties. Good thing you can write everything off for taxes.
I'd dial it way down and stay within the mileage if I leased!
Most definitely! We've always got Sarah's car for gas powered journeys.
@@bkxc fair enough then. Keep up the great work sharing your journeys. Been watching for years and love seeing your adventures. Dream job for sure!
ummm, just financially speaking, the more miles you. put on the EV and faster, the sooner you break even and lower the overall/lifecycle cost. the savings come from marginal cost of electric energy vs. gasoline. you have to drive the ev for it to pay off.
Very nice👋👍
Thanks!
Lucky guy ;)
Big time!
Do you carry a bear spray?
Nope, not afraid of black bears in California.
This guy reminds me of my brother but gets to mountain bike all the time and doesn't have kids. Brian don't ever have kids, or you'll end up in Kansas and never mountain bike.
Hahaha
You should look into a Mercedes Sprinter, diesel engine, +22 mpg.
Don't get sucked into the EV trap, it's unsustainable.
Waiting for the guy from the other video to comment about how young people don’t care about wildfires (???) lol
Hahahaha! That was puzzling
Yeah, I've gotta give one a try! I think this ride would have been perfect for the light ebike!
Down here wasps eat poo, they are pretty gross.
Interesting!
Get yourself a hybrid don’t go full electric. It’s big shift in lifestyle
Cybertruck BKXC
Too expensive at the moment!
Driving for four hours for a day's trip? You Americans must've really lost the feeling for distances with your weird units 😅. If something is four hours of driving away, that's at least a two night stay for me 😂
Oh yeah, I didn't mean it as a single day trip, just as a trip! So many people never venture far.
