My teen daughter and I have had a rocky relationship for a few years now. Maybe it’s time I truly surrender my control over her and just get to know her again. Thank you so much for the first tip. Please pray for me and my daughter, Trinity. 🙏🏽❤️

That is key. I was in the same position a few years ago. I got so sad. Started praying to St Monica. Read the book how to talk so teens will listen etc. There they stated the importance of really knowing them. Really listening to them, talk back as you care while they are talking... believe me. All the suden you will have them telling you everything. I was a control freak with him. He shutted down with me. We have learnes together, I am pleased that the Lord is hilding us by his hand. Now we have the best mother/son relatioship I ever dreamed of. Dont give up, be patient, surrender, pray, trust, open yourself. God bless.

One thing that really helps me is realizing over and over again that my children are making concrete memories for the rest of their lives. I don’t get to choose what they remember, but if I can help it, I can make the opportunities for positive memories be more plentiful.

One tradition of ours (a friend gave me the idea) at mealtime together is "Hi, Low, Buffalo". We tell a hi, a low, and a random thing (buffalo) from our day. We bring our tradition with us to extended family and friend get togethers. So much fun!

Thank you so much for this. I love the first fifteen minutes after school idea. I often have trouble finding joy in the moment of motherhood, and then later I worry that my children’s childhood is slipping through my fingers.

This was the best and super timely. I'm not a mom but I recently started babysitting and while some moments can be really hard, I keep inviting the Lord to give me the grace to enjoy it and to love children for the gift that they truly are.

One part of their weekly chores is to help me cook dinner and one dessert on the weekends. They get to pick the dessert. I’ve also started to let them help me meal plan. They love it and can’t wait for “their” week. It’s a great time to chat with them and really listen. They also LOVE to tell the sibling to leave the kitchen because it’s “their” week. 😂

My priest actually suggested the same last night, that I should do coffee or something special with my son, perhaps attach it to mass, so after mass do a meal or coffee...a lovely catch up session.

Before the churches shut down in 2020 my husband had a tradition of taking the kids who had received First Communion to Saturday morning Mass and staying for whoever would like confession, then take them to a bakery and get himself coffee and a muffin for the kids. They loved going to the cafe with Dad and they all knew confession would be offered weekly if needed.

Heather, I have a 2 year old and 1 year old right now -- please tell me it gets easier! I would love to eventually have 4-5 like you but right now the thought it so terrifying because it's just so hard! I'm afraid the Lord is going to ask me to give more than I have to offer Him.
Thank you for all of your content! All us Catholic mamas have to stick together

    • @fionainherkitchen

It does get easier!!! I had three smallies once...when my third was born my second was 2 and my first was still 3 for another month.... I thought I would never get over or through those days, weeks, mths, years and now after a blink of an eye they are all of a sudden 11, 9 and 7 at the moment! So yes it's difficult, it's tiring, it's totally self giving but it passes and now I cherish the memories of those baby days 😊 God bless you and this stage of your life 🙏💕

I’m struggling with the baby years too. Mine aren’t as close together as yours (4, 2, and one on the way) but I’m also a bit older I think than the average mom of little ones (I’m 38) and just exhausted. It’s good to hear from Mamas of older kids that it does get easier. Hang in there! 🙂💙

Hi, Mrs. Heather! What a sweet vídeo. I love every idea. I don't have kids and maybe I'll never have due to health issues. But I do have a precious nephew and a gorgeous niece. My nephew is almost seven years old and we spend a lot of time together. We bake cookies and make drawing contests. Also, we love to play animal riddles while having lunch during the afternoon. And he loves the stories I tell him.
God bless you and your lovely family. Your ministry has been a huge blessing for me. Greetings from Mexico!

I have 2 toddlers- fun family things we do include going for walks in the neighborhood and making the walk into a scavenger hunt. Another thing that helps me is changing my expectations 😆- for example we are going on a trip for a few days with the kids; I try to have the mindset of going at a slower pace than rather at the pace I would go if alone with my hubby. Having this mindset helps me not get frustrated or have unrealistic expectations for the trip. It then becomes a more relaxing fun experience.

My 7 yr old loves playing monopoly. It can span over several days but she loves counting her money and it sharpens her math skills. We also like to play charades, we get a lot of giggles out of that. Another simple, fun and creative thing the kids love is to go around and take turns adding a part of a story. It usually ends with a wacky and adventurous story line.

I have 3 kids of age 2 and under, so they’re home all the time. It’s easy to get lost in the ‘don’t touch that’ ‘oh, there’s vomit’. Despite that it costs a lot of effort I try to organise drawing, music making, going outside and anything that’s fun for all of us. Your video made me realise there comes a time I’ll feel I don’t see them enough, so despite that it’s sometimes overwhelming I’m cherishing this time.

Thanks for your work here. How do you share your everyday life. It is very important because sometimes it is difficult to find the answer what it means to be a Catholic. You need to practice good relations with children from an early age because when they grow up, it is difficult to change some things, they do not want to spend so much time with their parents. Please make a recording of how you care for good relationships and love in marriage. I greet you warmly from Poland and I hug you tight (I understand every third word from the recordings, but I listen to you anyway :))

Families that pray together, stay together. Also, studies have repeatedly shown the same for families that eat their meals together during the week.

I am first time mom and my little is 4 month old..she takes so much of my time that I cant do anything and I wonder how I could care for another child (we would like to have more but right now I really feel overhelmed). Can you make a video how you handle a newborn with having other kids? That would be soooooo helpful :)...or maybe you did, but I didnt find it can you give me the link?
