  • What's It Feel Like to have blood clots in your lungs?:
Rene is a broadcaster for a t.v. station in St. Louis, MO. In 2013, he started feeling tightness in his chest and found it very difficult to breathe. By 2016, he could barely function doing his job. Doctors found blood clots in his lungs and tried to treat the issue with blood thinners. But eventually, it became impossible for Rene to do even the basic things. He became a ticking time bomb. Doctors performed a 9-hour surgery to remove the clots and save his life. Rene explains how difficult it was to live with the clots and what he learned about advocating for his health.

I was litteraly just released from hospital from a massive pulmonary embolism. Doctors had to shock me they were sure I'm not going to make it. By the grace of God I survived. I felt exactly the same.

Thanks for describing the pain. I never knew how my brother felt before he passed away. He texted me complaining that he was short of breath and asked me to help him call the ambulance. A few hours later he was unconscious and a day later he passed away. He was 40 years old.

I’ve been dealing with worsening breathing problems for months. Finally it escalated to the point where I was certain I was suffocating. Honestly I begged God to take me quickly and put me out of my misery. Ended up in the ER where I learned I had a pulmonary embolism. I’m still hospitalized at this moment. It’s been a rough ride.

Oh my. Thank you so much for sharing. I have been accused of faking illness and lost both my kids, husband, in laws and even dad because they thought I was a hypochondriac or chose to be a jerk. I started to believe I was crazy and probably was a pos. I had "more than we can count" in my lungs twice. The doctor told me a 3rd probably kill me.
I can't even begin to describe how much this simple 7 min clip has helped me. THANK YOU.

@@Jenny-ZZR I’m glad you continue to take them and they’re working. I asked my physician why does every adult no matter what size take the same amount of Eliquis and he just said that’s the way it is. I don’t understand it. I also asked how do you know if it’s working and he said if you don’t get any clots then you know it’s working. That to me sounded kind of dumb. I’m thinking isn’t there a test they could do like the people that are on Coumadin and he said no Coumadin is different those people get their blood tested every week or two. Anyway I’m always scared somethings going to happen again but if I’m taking the blood thinners I’m doing the right thing. I hope you have a good evening. By the way that’s a shame that your family thought you were faking an illness when you truly had blood clots and symptoms. I was also told there were a lot of blood clots in my lungs both small and big. They kind of give me that look like you’re lucky. I’m currently in pulmonary rehab recently started to try to get my energy back and hopefully get the breathlessness to go down. I get tired pretty quickly. How about you?

@@TLovetoDance012 Goodness. I hope you know there's no shame in getting another opinion. I wouldn't be comfortable with those kind of answers, either. Not that he was rude, it's just with these types of things, you know, the illnesses you can't see or predict. Doctors forget, I think, that while they might not be worried because they see so much, most patients don't know much and need reassurance.
I don't know if it's wise to compare but you could ask a doctor if you should feel a noticeable difference like I do. He/she may not want you to experiment between taking it one day and not the next. Maybe you need a higher dose if he/she agrees it should give you a better overall feeling. Maybe I'm just lucky. We think it was from smoking while on a hormone treatments. Has anyone done a DNA check on you for a blood disorder? If not, you really, really need that done. ALSO, I believer a D-dimer test is the best simplest test to see if the meds are doing their job. But, I don't know for sure. It may only be able to detect clots are present.
ALSO.....don't let me worry you but I did a lot of reading and it seems to be common for people to be diagnosed with cancer somewhere in the body within 6 months after getting clots. But, of course, that was on the Internet and it has a habit of scaring people. :)
Thank you...... I think it was an in-law kinda thing an They don't particularly like me. LOL
If you want, keep me posted on how you're doing.

@@Jenny-ZZR Hi Jenny. I read your nice post. Yes I could always get a second opinion. When I got the blood clots and was in the hospital every doctor who came to see me asked me about cancer screenings. They asked if I had got the mammogram G.I. testing etc. and I told them I had plus female tests. I read all the reports there were no signs of cancer. They did tell me that sometimes people with cancer get blood clots and that’s why they were asking me. Of course they asked the usual questions..have I taken any long flights, long drives, car accidents, did I have a fall, etc. I told them no to everything except I had a minor fall down six stairs and bumped the right side of my lower leg. I did not have a bruise and I got up and brushed it off. Somehow I wonder if that caused all of this but they wrote it off. I’m also asthmatic and during last fall season had a terrible flare that ultimately sent me to the ER because the steroids weren’t working and they always work. They did the D dimer, pulmonary perfusion scan, CT and then I was diagnosed. They had me on injectable blood thinners in the hospital but then released me on Eliquis. That was in November. I recently had a D dimer about three weeks ago which was normal. I was relieved. I would like to get one of those at least every six months and I will talk to my doctor about it. When my mom had heart surgery she was on Coumadin. This was over 20 years ago and she had to go weekly for a test and that it was every two weeks but she had to be so careful about eating green vegetables especially since she loves salad because it would mess up her numbers. At least people that take newer blood thinners don’t have to worry about that. I don’t remember how long it was that you said this happened to you.. has your family come around and are more understanding? My children are in the medical field and we have a doctor in the family so of course I got opinions and information flying at me as soon as the diagnosis hit. I was especially told to get checked out by the cardiologist because the clots were so many when they look like that they usually come from the heart from a backed up heart valve. I am very grateful it wasn’t that. Well I hope you’re doing well. It’s nice to have someone to chat with because it’s a little depressing not having the energy I had before. It’s taken me a long time to get where I am from November to May now I am in rehab on the treadmill, a sit down elliptical etc. and I’m hoping that will work. Just want to be able to take a walk without feeling so out of breath I have to sit down somewhere.

I finished chemo 4 months ago and told my oncologist and regular doctor I thought the port catheter was sticking my heart. It was causing chest pains, I couldn’t breathe, heart was beating too fast or too slow or would temporarily stop. They blew me off thinking I just wanted the port out. I was on the highway one night with a friend and 10 minutes away from home a deer just stood on the road in front of my car and I hit her. Huge doe. I was taken to the hospital and still complaining that the port was hurting my heart. They took a CT scan and X-rays and told me I had 2 blood clots in my lung. It wasn’t the port, like he said, I was dying and didn’t know it. That deer saved my life! Killed my car but saved my life! Sad thing, I did ask for help. My medical team blew me off

I just survived one on January 2nd of this year. While 7 months pregnant. I have never felt so scared. The feeling of not being able to breathe is truly terrifying. They instructed me , " dont panic. Inhale in through the nose, out through the mouth" and I just couldn't do it. It was like literally I forgot how to breathe.

I’m so sorry you had to experience this yourself and am so happy you made it through. You are so right, it was impossible to breath and that was the worst part for me. They had me on heavy duty pain killers but it didn’t work because it wasn’t that type of pain. It was the worst feeling ever and I pray you or I never have to go through that again. I did however, get another massive clot in my leg later on in 2021.

@SgtWill that actually was how I was first introduced to clots. DVT in the right leg in 2019. Then in Auguat of 2023, while 5 months pregnant, I had a 12 day hospital stay for Bilateral DVTs in both legs... for me the legs came first and progressed to the lungs. It's heavily hereditary for me, that's why I to deal with it
I was the youngest to get clots in my family at 25, and the first person to have them travel to the lung and survive.. they really are no joke

Having any blood clot is awful but having a big pulmonary embolism, you think your dying and are very close to death. I thought I was having a heart attack, and prayed so hard to survive before going into a long hospital stay, after I had just left the hospital recovering from a femoral clot that unknown to anyone had broken away and travelled to my lungs! I never want to go through that trauma again..and thank god that miracles do happen. This occurred in my mid thirties, my 1st clot in my ankle occurred at 29. But once a clot has formed in a limb, its already damaged it, and has caused damages in my body...cause 'The contraceptive birth control pill' ...amazing how one pill can cause so much damage. Thank you for sharing your life story! My life changed totally because of D.V.Ts.

If you have blood clots you need to go to the ER. A doctor’s visit isn’t going to cut it.

I think the reason you kept getting more blood clots in your lungs was because you were not walking. You have to move your legs to not get blood clots
