Johnny Hodges, king of the alto sax.
My goshhh. In heaven. An absolute dream.
Johnny was a key component of the Duke Ellington Orchestra. It was never the same when he left. He was one of the greatest alto sax players.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!From a mad keen 73yo Aussie fan.

Just ...wow.
That reach to the minor third...making the V chord augmented.. that's what does it
❤❤❤❤❤💯❗👍
Musical Valium.
A new version to me. Any idea who else is playing and when? It sounds rather like Lawrence Brown or perhaps Juan Tizol on trombone, but it doesna sound to me like typical Duke on the piano.

Might be Charlie Parker was the greatest musician at the time , but Hodgers was undoutly the greastest saxplayer.
