    Thanks! This helped me understand how to remove and clean the lock. Pretty much exactly the same gas cap on ST1300's, except we don't have that plastic insert, spring and plug. I'd suggest to anybody else taking their gas cap apart to use a good sized box to work in to keep springs and screws from escaping and make an easy clean up.

      That is smart. There are a lot of loose/small parts to these.

      I have a 599(cb600f) and don’t have the plastic insert, spring and plug either. My gas cap doesn’t shut completely I wonder if those parts missing are the reason why? The key also doesn’t turn back automatically when pressing the cap.

    thanks, question, I put the new china cap back on my bike and it didn't open well, I had to shim 3 bolts with a washers and it's better and may have to add another, the caps off a bit and doesn't open with ease...how did yours go back on ?

    • @g00gl3it

      Mine fit great, but it was OEM, just powdercoated. Those Chinese knock offs tend to always be out of whack a bit and require adjustment.

    The metal ring was the "key" :) thanks

    How do you get the metal ring back under the rubber?

    • @g00gl3it
      @g00gl3it  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rewatch from 1:30 to 2:30 - you'll just do that in reverse. You just have to lift part of the rubber seal, work one edge of the ring in there and then work around the edges to get the ring to pop back in underneath the seal.

    Hi. What do we do if the gasket breaks or is worn-out ? How can we replace it ?

    • @g00gl3it
      @g00gl3it  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can order the gaskets from any parts supplier online.

    Do you have to re install the metal shim? Is that just to cover the screws for security?

    • @g00gl3it
      @g00gl3it  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you need the shim. It helps hold the rubber gasket in place and keeps the screw heads from wearing into the gasket I believe.

    Thanks man great video do you now how to remove a gas cap from the gas tank. I lost my key for my 900

    • @g00gl3it
      @g00gl3it  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the gas cap is similar, just look at the deeper (recessed) bolts on the gas cap. These are the ones that go into the tank (one at the very top and the two at the bottom). Remove those and you can remove the gas cap. You could then proceed to disassemble and remove the tumblers from the cap itself, and either get a key made for the tumblers at a locksmith or swap in they tumblers with matching key from a replacement part.

      Removing the screws won't work only loosen it. You still need the key to remove the cap.

    im having trouble opening my honda cbr1000f gas cap with my key its not turning feels stuck..wats the plan wit that?

    • @g00gl3it
      @g00gl3it  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely it has dirt, debris, or oil/gas residue on the cylinder lock. I would try cleaning it out with a safe for paint lubricant like wd-40, lighter fluid, or silicone spray. You may want to disassemble the cap like I've done in this video to clean it. If you do clean it, you'll want to remove all traces of oil or cleaning fluid until the key lock, cylinder, and tumblers are all completely dry. Reassemble, then lubricate with some dry graphite powder.

    Ummmm, you didn't show a key (no pun intended) aspect - the Removal of the Tumbler! Sheesh! Does it just pull out? Do you have to remove a clip???? What?
