    One reason a lot of guys in the south use braid for slip corks is that your bobber stopper doesnt slip on its own as easy. Also, line management was mentioned a bit in the show, having braid allows your line above the cork to float instead of sink which helps with line management. We usually tie on a 3 ft fluro leader to the braid.

    My best days for catching walleyes has been on calm days. Haven't had much luck with leeches though. Half a night crawler with jigs. I mostly fish a lake that is part of a large river system and has almost no structure and the deepest spot is about 11 feet. One of the times where I did best was in about 3-4 feet.

    If you put a Corky between your bead and the top of your borber it helps as an indicator letting you know that your bobber stopper is to the top of your bobber where it needs to be

    When you set the depth is that 3 ft of floro + 25 ft added onto that? So you’re fishing around 30 ft but a couple feet above?

    • @dennisarmes3473
      @dennisarmes3473 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes... that is correct ! keep your leech/crawler/bait above the fish making them "look up" ... also, use a nice thin but strong hook and penetrate your bait on its skin only which will give more wiggle action to the live bait !! very tempting !!

  • @dudebwm
    @dudebwm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Mr Lindner, question, have you ever used this is a river situation? I have a spot where there are walleyes stacked up but there is a steady current, Looking to provide a more natural presentation, and thought that using the slip float close to bottom maybe within 1-2 ft, they would grab it, if you have time let me know your thoughts, Thanks

    • @auto_5
      @auto_5 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brett May - I have, can be a decent option, but I’d say it works better in less or no current. First thing to keep in mind is you have to set your depth a little deeper to make up for current, which can vary. And if you are fishing where there is scattered rock/boulder, it can be annoying hanging up on them every few casts. It’s a nice change up, though compared to my usual pitching jigs and cranks. Find a nice eddy and it can be a real blast!

    Monofilament is terrible for float fishing. Braid floats and allows you to keep slack out of your line.

    • @SmokeETer-he6xy
      @SmokeETer-he6xy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have floating mono on my float reel, I never have a problem with slack.

    • @robertculpepper1508
      @robertculpepper1508 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SmokeETer-he6xy So when you real you're line in when your bobber is floating toward you it doesnt move your bobber. I've fished floats hundreds of times for steelhead and walleye with a jig under. Anytime I have used mono it has a negative effect on the float while trying to mend line because it doesnt float. But I guess you found the magic floating mono.

    • @SmokeETer-he6xy
      @SmokeETer-he6xy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertculpepper1508 Yea it is literally called floating monofilament, Blood Run Tackle and Sunline are two companies that I know of. Before that when I used Ande mono(well for some non float related fishing still do), I used something called silicone mucilin. Something for dry fly fishing, you smear it on your line and it helps your line float on the surface. Wears off after some time, usually an hour or two

    • @robertculpepper1508
      @robertculpepper1508 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SmokeETer-he6xy Or when you are float fishing you could just use high vis braid. Then you wouldnt have to buy special mono that no stores carry or smear a messy flotation goo on your line. Just sayin... When you are dead drifting jigs or eggs in the river and you cant get a natural presentation because your line sinks when you mend it you catch less fish. Some people just like their mono though I suppose.

    • @SmokeETer-he6xy
      @SmokeETer-he6xy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@robertculpepper1508 Haha I'm familiar with mending. And yes my line is high vis. No I don't get a belly in my line because it floats(like I said earlier), that way my float barely moves as I mend it. All of the local tackle stores carry a combination of the lines I mentioned before. I also like the forgiveness of mono, it helps keep the hooks pinned and sheds ice easily. How does your braid do in -6C? Or do you have to buy a special braid for that? I get some of the benefits of braid, I use it to float fish smallmouth... with a 20ft bumper of mono. Sensitivity of braid cannot be beat, casting lures and bottom bouncing. Trolling long lines, I prefer braid because of the thin diameter. but mono is not terrible for float fishing.

    I don't see the float as making the effectiveness. The fish-finder telling you exactly where the fish are and a leech, no float needed.
    If you used soft shell Crayfish you would have even more effectiveness.

    • @nickposten4847
      @nickposten4847 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The float keeps your bait away from the boat. Also keeps the bait set off the bottom at the desired height above the fish.
