For the amount of time ESPN FC talk about Portugal, I’ve never heard them once address the real issue with the team. Portugal’s Achilles Heel is not Ronaldo. It’s playing against extreme low blocks with inverted wingers who endlessly pass the ball sideways and backwards. It makes their attack far too predictable because even though they dominate possession their inverted wingers take far too long to actually get the ball into dangerous positions. Martinez needs to adjust quicker and start using direct wingers that prevent low blocks from just sitting in and mostly defending shuffling side to side in and around their own 18 yard box.

For the amount of time ESPN FC talk about Portugal, I’ve never heard them once address the real issue with the team. Portugal’s Achilles Heel is not Ronaldo. It’s playing against extreme low blocks with inverted wingers who endlessly pass the ball sideways and backwards. It makes their attack far too predictable because even though they dominate possession their inverted wingers take far too long to actually get the ball into dangerous positions. Martinez needs to adjust quicker and start using direct wingers that prevent low blocks from just sitting in and mostly defending shuffling side to side in and around their own 18 yard box.
