I'm a teacher who was forced to edit videos for hours and hours during the peak of Covid for online teaching. I thought I knew how much time and effort you put in the vidoes, but it was much more than what I imagined! Thank you for always sharing amazing content, including this vlog! Love your honesty about life not going well and not vlogging when you don't feel like it. We all have those days so it's so relatable 😌❤
Yes, it is a lot more work than you imagine but it is fun too :D For me though, the issue is I look at myself so much that I start to dislike myself 😂 So I decided to change it up a bit, and it is much nicer to edit something like this than a video where I see myself the entire time xD Yes, we all have days when we are not so great :) I think it is good and important to talk about them :)
Love the format its reassuring to see a realistic view of plant maintenance I'm impressed with how much you are able to accomplish with all the filming and especially the editing - I would never be able to keep up with that. Your video's are truly a work of art. Thank you
Thank you for showing a slightly less glamorous side of plant collecting! It seems like plant content on social media is always shown as so easy and everything always looks so clean and organised and effortless. It was nice to see you are human too! I really enjoyed getting to see this side of things.
I love this type of video, thank you for all your hard work and for sharing your life and thoughts. I have a large plant collection and the thing is, it does force you to stay indoors for many hours a week. But being outside and taking those walks in nature is so important to good health and spirit. I hope you can resume your walks!! I loved seeing the natural areas around where you live in Serbia. Over the years, I also have converted my property to a native plant garden and wildlife habitat. Growing native plants enables me to satisfy the plant-growing need while also spending time outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine. Can't underestimate the importance of natural sunlight - for us and our plants. Heard a lecture about how the underlying cause of plant pest problems is due to declining health and weakness of the plant. But you can make a plant pest-proof by improving its brix content (basically its sugar content). To do this, what they need is natural sunlight (for not only UV light but also infrared, near infrared light, etc) and proper minerals, and a diverse soil (or root zone) microbiome, which is what helps break down the nutrients/minerals for the plant to utilize. The soil/root area microbiome is the secret. And for epiphytes, this applies too. Our indoor sterile substrates, mounts and potting media are devoid of microbial diversity. This weakens the plant and then leads to pest problems and inevitable slow death.
It is interesting, isn't it? We grow plants to connect with nature more, and then we end up staying inside more. Quite a paradox. :D Native plant garden is a dream for me! I hope I will be able to have it one day. They are not very popular here and I imagine a lot of people would consider them ugly, but I love the wild look.
@@BasiePlants I hope you can embark on native plant gardening, you will be excellent at it! If there is no yard or much space, even growing in containers makes a difference. Doug Tallamy (entomologist) has spearheaded the native plant movement here in the US, and it has really taken off in the past few years. Now there are cities that have protected people's decision to install and maintain native plant gardens in their front yard. If you have time, here is one of Doug's many videos.... I can totally see you being the pioneer of the native plant movement in Serbia! :) th-cam.com/video/ZHURaRv78QY/w-d-xo.html
Since Im unable to travel outside of the US and actually love to see new areas, it was nice to get a glimpse of Serbia 🇷🇸. If I could I would definitely love to travel the world, as the old song goes I was born under a wondering star! ❄️💚🙃
Hi Miro! Thank you for the vlog, was a treat to see a realistic glimpse into your life. You have green grass…I can’t wait until our snow is gone. I need to start taking daily walks, get some sunshine. Spring can’t come soon enough. Already started propagating some plants even! 😊
What a great slice of life video. Really enjoyed it. Although I get a bit overwhelmed wondering how you water and care for all your plants. That’s bc I get overloaded with my own. After this video, I have decided to get more anthurium. The large dark leaves really look beautiful with your Hoya. Thank you for helping me (yet again) think of new reasons to get more more plants. I so appreciate your videos!! Thank you❤️
Thank you! :) I also get overwhelmed with my plants, don't you worry about that. 😂 It is a lot to take care of, for sure. Anthuriums are lovely, but some can be problematic. Then again, I also want more. xD
I loved this video. Looks like a nice peaceful place to take a walk. I would love that. All I see constantly are people, traffic and bldgs. You did well to keep an eye on those trees. They’ve been known to sneak up on people. You crack me up. Hair is gorgeous as always. So shiny. I don’t know how you can keep up with so many plants. I would be way too overwhelmed. Thanks for the video Miro! 💚🌱💚
They are definitely overwhelming at times :) Yes, it is a nice place for a walk. There are some buildings in the downtown area (which is a very generous wording) but it is a small town overall :)
I've been enjoying your content for quite a while but I have to say, this is one of my favorite videos from you. Thank you for your honesty and realness! Sharing about the less "Insta worthy" moments, the reality in your situation is so relatable and I love you all the more for it. I've been feeling so swamped lately and it's nice to know that even the pros don't have perfection all the time. You got this, we got this. That's a tomorrow project😜
@@BasiePlants oh yes, as much as I really enjoyed this fun vlog. Nice to see you outside-even nervously waiting for the resident troll to appear…🧌 It really was interesting watching you plan where to put all those plants, then you unzip the tents and it’s visually like geez! I personally can relate to the dust and webs, but for filming maybe a planty maid to come clean and vacuum once a week might be a nice treat to yourself. 🌿🧹🪴🍃 paid in cuttings of course
I really enjoyed spending the week with you Miro! It was nice to play your video as I did my own plant chores. Thank you for giving us a glimpse behind the curtain. Hope you have a great week 😊
You certainly have 'The' collection. It's a biodiversity hot-spot😅🙌💖, I admire your effort and hard work you do. You're among my favourite TH-cam plant people😊🙏🌟
It looks like my area of the world. I think we all take for granted the beauty around us because we see it so often. When I lived in Wisconsin and travel the Kettle Moraine area it was just a bunch of hills and valleys. Now when I go back for a visit I am amazed by its beauty.❄️💚🙃
In one of hoochoes last videos, he mentioned hanging the lights with a small tilt angle so the side with the connector is slightly higher. That way water condensation won’t run into the electric conponens, lowering their lifespan or causing a short circuit. It is just a theory, but think hanging Hoyas could benefit from a source of light that moves during the day, like… the sun. To optimise photosynthesis, most plants, and the more mobile Hoyas, move their leaves into the perfect angle for the photons to hit the chloroplasts and constantly follow the lightsource. By the synchronised movement, the leaves optimize against each other, falling into the form, a human eye considers beautiful and natural. Thank you! 👏🏻
I appreciate that you're putting in snippets of Serbia now. I finally got a glimpse of the damn. Hopefully the castle next? Also I know you edit your vids and all but you never take out the "ugh" or the "yecks" when your trying to find good lighting. I must say it's refreshing to see. Not to mention the love and hate of plant care. It's just a constant reminder that we all deal with that 💩. Thank you. Anyhoo, hope you get to do more walks in Bečej and take us with you. BTW did you ever do a plant shopping/ window plant shopping vid? Or Vasárnaps in spring? Not a lot of Hoyas but still interesting. Just a thought 🙂❤️
Ah yes, I should have wrote in the video that the damn was designed by Eiffel's company. :D The castle is closed unfortunately. I am not sure if it can be visited, but I will try to find out :) It would be cool to record something there too :) Hahaha yes, I found those "finding the good light" parts funny, so I decided to leave them in :D I have never done a video with plant shopping :) I mostly order online now, but maybe it would be fun to incoroporate that in some of my videos :)
I really like the vlog. It’s always fun to get to see a slice of someone’s everyday life. Also I live about 25 miles from the town they filmed the Blair witch project in. Those poor people haaaate that film 😅
Oh I would absolutely move if something like that was filmed in my town 😂 Unlike people in horror movies who have weird stuff happening in their homes and they decide to stay. I am like... That ball rolled by itself from the dark basement towards me?! I AM OUT.
Hold on…pausing your video for a sec… you run a DEhumidifier by your plants ? How humid is it where you live? -- ok - just finished watching. My first question still stands but I must say that you have a very beautiful collection! Thank you so much for sharing!!! Ooh- one more Q: did I see one tent stacked on top of the other? If so, how does that work?
My room is naturally over 60% and if I am not careful, it can get over 80% very easily. Humidity outside is over 80% in the winter always, and this is an older house, so they tent to wick up moisture more. Yes, I have a smaller tent on top of the other two tents, but it is laid horizontally. I am pretty sure you are not supposed to do that, but it really turned out to be very useful for me xD I just out thicker cardboard underneath it, to give it some support (aside from the tent construction below)
It depends on the pest. We don't have beneficial insects here, sadly, so I have to look at other methods. The mildest one is a mix of paraffin oil/ mineral oil and water, but that won't help much with big infestations. If the plant is heavily infested, I usually discard it, especially if I judge that it will be very hard for it to come back.
@BasiePlants in my opinion beneficial insects are not worth the money. They are super super expensive and I've tried them five times and have never had any success. You have to have exact humidity requirements and the exact temperatures for them to hatch successfully. Also with your plant room being your bedroom some of them are pretty big and will be flying around your room.

The architecture is wonderful in your place!
There are some nice places :)
Overwhelming but totally captivating! Your jostling hoya are glorious and any hint of chaos is mitigated by the magnificently high ceilings.
Definitely overwhelming :D But I do feel better now that a part of it has been taken care of at least :)

I really liked this posting. You’re so cute and funny. I love how you procrastinate! I do too!
The fact that it took you two days to clean that area is so relatable 😂 especially when you factor in distractions
Right?! 😂 I always say that smaller places are harder to clean because most of it is moving stuff out of your way so you can access the space better 😂

Most of the ones in the tents are in pon or just pumice. Most of the ones outside of the tent are in organic mix (usually coco peat, perlite, bark)
