LOL. They were looking at the city of Kassel (Northern Hesse) on their target map! O.o... Other than that: I agree with tipex12: chassis looks instable and too weak. Engine seemed to have some trouble with the load.
Looks like a M548 and mounted a gun turret on the back. The rear loader is a bit high. 155mm rounds are 97 lbs. so you're putting strain on the loader unnecessarily by having it so high off the ground. I like the auto loader but 6 rpm is slower than manual. I'm not sure the fewer troops is worth the reduced output.
I'm not Dave but I'll still address your question: What would be the point of forcing a MBT into the roll of a self propelled howitzer? A tank is a tank and artillery is artillery. That is why I don't get British tank fans who say the L30 gun is better than smooth bore tank guns because it is more accurate when firing conventional shells over long distances. That is just not what a MBT is supposed to do.
dont know who called that a ''DONAR'' but this is the light version of the Panzerhaubitze 2000 made by Krauss-maffei wegmann. The heavy version looks like a Ferdinand.
Since entering service with the German Army in 1995, the PzH2000 Self-Propelled Gun artillery system has also been successfully exported due to having the fastest rate of fire for modern Self-propelled gun’s and digital fire control technology as well as a Rheinmetall 52cal Length main gun for increased range and accuracy. The PzH2000 manufacturer, German Firm Krauss-Maffei went on to developed the Artillery Gun Module (AGM) in 2004. Based on the extensive experience garnered with the PzH2000, the AGM is an unmanned, fully-automatic (it loads the breach of the main gun and lays it on to the target) and platform independent artillery gun module utilizing systems from the PzH2000, including its Rheinmetall 52cal Length main gun. Weight 12.5 tonne Length 10.3m Width 2.8m Height 1.9m Armament 155mm / L52 cal. Fire rate 6 rounds per minute Range 56km Combat load 30 projectiles & 145 charges (stored in magazines located in the module) Crew unmanned (1-2 soldiers outside the module) Source: tanknutdave.com
To me, the canon reaching wide over the vehicle looks like a huge crash risk e.g. during turning into forests with trees standing very close to each oher.
Only the prototypes are based on mlrs - serial production is based on an ascod mech infantry tanks... but the mainpoint is the howitzer. So what’s your point?
This is not a weapon build to singlehandedly win World War 3, it is a smaller, cheaper, easier to airlift alternative to the PzH2000, to be used in low intensity warfare like in Afghanistan. It just has to be mobile enough to get from the airport to a main base and perhaps from there to a forward firing position on some hill near the base where it fires a few rounds at some insurgents 30 km away and drives back into the base afterwards.
Hmmm a compact semi stealthy turret, a simplified automated modular charge system and an autoloader. I would say this looks suspiciously like the Germans experiments with making a 155mm naval turret based on pzh2000 technology and placing it on an affordable chassis.
@@mattskustomkreations Or neither side is in possession of "state of the art" counter drone technology. For obvious reasons. There are reasons why NATO arsenals are not stacked full of simple (cheap) armed radio controlled aircraft. The technology to make them has been around for decades but all we see are target drones for gunnery practice. Those kinds of weapons are notoriously vulnerable to EW countermeasures. Not only can the most sophisticated "secure" data links be cracked and tampered with. They can be blocked and shut down completely. The cheaper the technology used, the easier it is to identify, locate, disrupt or destroy. Which brings us back to wheeled artillery systems being used to very accurately eliminate point targets. An infantry section or AFV operating a drone weapon. Is actually broadcasting it's exact location to anyone smart enough to be looking for them. FYI I'm retired now and my knowledge is out of date. But even so, I know that when it comes to electronic signals "silence is golden."
