Rap/Hip Hop is in a weird place rn. None of the new artists are innovative or creative enough to take the top spots and the greatest from the generation before them are still dominating. There’s been no passing of the torch. No big three to fill the void that’ll eventually be present once Drake Cole and Kendrick fall out of the top spots.
Alot of that is from people not listening to albums or paying attention to rap skills anymore. Everyone is streaming and making playlist of various artists these days.
I used to be the one of the biggest Drake fans but I definitely agree with Jamari he hasn’t really put together a solid cohesive record since Views. Even More Life and Scorpion had to grow on me. Outside of Sticky (because it was catchy) and like 3 or 4 songs on Dark Lane Demo Tapes I haven’t listened to anything off of Her Loss, Honestly, Nevermind or Certified Lover boy. I think I made it 60% of the way through For All The Dogs and realized I wasn’t even paying attention so I just turned it off. On the other hand I have listened to Room for Improvement, Comeback Season and So Far Gone a few times over this year and even though it’s not peak Drake I still feel like it’s better than this mess he’s been releasing these past few years.
People love “if you’re reading this” but in my opinion that album started his fall off. It’s when he officially stopped taking lil Wayne’s advice, copied other artists flows, literally copy and pasted another artists song on the album(10 bands) then added some of his own lyrics on it.

I used to be the one of the biggest Drake fans but I definitely agree with Jamari he hasn’t really put together a solid cohesive record since Views. Even More Life and Scorpion had to grow on me. Outside of Sticky (because it was catchy) and like 3 or 4 songs on Dark Lane Demo Tapes I haven’t listened to anything off of Her Loss, Honestly, Nevermind or Certified Lover boy. I think I made it 60% of the way through For All The Dogs and realized I wasn’t even paying attention so I just turned it off. On the other hand I have listened to Room for Improvement, Comeback Season and So Far Gone a few times over this year and even though it’s not peak Drake I still feel like it’s better than this mess he’s been releasing these past few years.
People love “if you’re reading this” but in my opinion that album started his fall off. It’s when he officially stopped taking lil Wayne’s advice, copied other artists flows, literally copy and pasted another artists song on the album(10 bands) then added some of his own lyrics on it.

Let me play devil's advocate here. You know, when you're a musician, you're super sensitive and vulnerable when you put your music out there. So, if someone criticizes your work, it hits you hard. It's not easy to get unless you're also a musician or some kind of artist, you know what I mean?
