Haven't seen that car since the change. I'm betting that it needs work... fluid change was just a inexpensive way to see if it was just fluid. Most likely it had a bad bearing or internal issue.
Not in this case, slightly less noise but the car really needs the rear differential replaced... The noise is a bearing noise and the only way to fix that is to either replace the rear or rebuild it.... Car has over 300k miles on it...
I have an E30 325is from 1988...started having some noises in the rear diff after replacing the oil. I stumbled upon a Service Bulletin from 1993 from BMW which stated that a friction modifier booster should be used if "customer complaint about noises" and keep adding the booster until the noises are cancelled...The booster I used is from Redline oils and I used 6oz to quiet it down www.redlineoil.com/limited-slip-friction-modifier

It's easy to tell if you got lsd jack the car up take of handbrake and spin one wheel both should move same time if you got lsd.
i have e28 518i its always whined i think its just its sound lol
