I'm gonna miss this team so much. Hell of a ride this year, every line was lethal, and they were easily the best team in the league by a mile. Even more impressive with all the injuries that they played through that are coming to light.
i feel like Ross Colton's goal at 11:23 is one of the most underrated of these playoffs. if you look closely, Colton wasn't even looking at the goalie, he was looking across the crease like he was gonna pass it, then completely snipes it top shelf. If it had been McDavid or Crosby doing that you'd never hear the end of it.

Damn, their first win against Florida felt like yesterday. Also, the Lightning, Capitals, and the Blues are a huge testament to not blowing up your core and just sort of slowly making some small touches here and there. (Looking at you Toronto, although you guys might be helpless)
As a Leaf fan....maybe I'm hoping that their 'meltdown' vs the Habs in Round 1 is similar to Tampa's 1st-round demise vs Columbus in 2019 in that in finally sparks the Leafs to get serious about doing some damage in the playoffs. Buuuuuuut I'm not entirely certain of that Lol. Thank goodness I can watch teams like the Lightning to keep me entertained as a fan. ;-)
And although I've grown up a Leafs fan & even with a lot of attention on the North Division this past season, I had my eye on the Lightning during the season as well. Something in the back of my head told me that they weren't through and that they would most certainly take another run at the Cup this season. And they sure did.
The difference being that the Lightning, Capitals, and Blues all had SOME playoff success before winning the Cup. At least they had won some series in the years leading up to their titles. The Leafs have gone 17 years without even taking a series. But I will root for them, as a Lightning fan.

I was there when the Boltz played at the State Fairgrounds, and then at what is now called, Tropicana Field, (was called the Thunder Dome back then, because the main occupants were the Tampa Bay Storm Arena Football Team, and the Tampa Bay Lightning) I remember going to The Bolts first Home Game at Amalie Arena, (a 2-0 loss to the Panthers), The original 'stars' of the team. Brian Bradley, John Tucker, Rob Zamuner, Roman Hamrlick, Chris Gratton and Darren Puppa. Never did I ever dream, that the Tampa Bay Lightning would be 3 time Stanley Cup Champions in such a relatively short time. Their first Cup back in 04, the franchise was 12 years old. The quickest for an expansion team to win the Cup, at that time. And now, to win back, to back Cups, with a Lawyer for a Head Coach. And a very fresh and unique approach to hockey, (really kind of a throw back, to how the Soviet National Team played during their time of dominance) Its been amazing to see this group together and have so much success. It is widely believed by many in the Hockey Community. Particularly at ESPN. That Tampa would have 4 Cups right now, if not for the 05 lockout, as everyone from the 04 Cup Team, was coming back for the 05 Season. But, alas, that was not to be. Its been an amazing ride for those of us who ride The Lightning...Thank You Mr Vanek, for providing the stable ownership a Sports Franchise needs, to be successful.

Next season might be a bit tougher on the Bolts for a variety of reasons, but they still have their main core group locked up for a few more seasons and they do have some youngsters already making an impact( Ross Colton, anyone? :-) ). There's a whole list of teams still aiming to take their shot at the Stanley Cup next season but I do kinda think the Lightning will still be in the mix somehow.
Colton's first game, I thought we had something special in that kid. He is getting better every game. Taking more responsibility including face offs. He is hitting more too.

It really is a problem. They're so damn good it's borderline unfair. I don't think we lose much except depth next year. Which is significant but still. I see this team in the conversation to repeat.
From December 2021, the season after this happened. Everyone’s injured. We are still #1 in the league. A three-peat appears inevitable. A devoted bolts fan.
You know if you look back at the Stanley Cup and the playoffs to get there, the lighting made some seriously good goaltenders look pretty stuck in the mud. This isn't to say these aren't good goaltenders. They can start for any team in the lake except for Tampa. We already have that position nailed down with the best goalie in the NHL. But every team we played in the playoffs had a very good goalie in net. Then Vasi ended every series with a shutout. I wonder if that's ever been done before? It was an amazing playoff. There's four guys from that team that I wish were still in Tampa.
Can I just say that these past two Cup runs they have killed all their demons. They beat CBJ last year and then Trotz. This year they beat Quenneville and Brobosky. They then beat Trotz again and to cap it off they beat the most successful franchise in the Final. Pretty crazy

My 8 year old self got to drink Coca Cola out Stanley, my dad used to be close friends with Osgood, So I went to the after party after the wings won with my family in 02 and McCarty and Osgood poured me up a fat shot of Coke and a straw and sipped that Cocaine straight from that boy.

In the last decade, every team in the east that has touched it has won. Last team to not touch it and win was Boston in 2011 iirc

Sure they were 18 mil over the cap but at the end of the day winning the Cup regardless is one of the hardest trophies to win. Congrats again Tampa
They were not even using 4 million of it cause two players were on ltir for the whole seaosn and playoffs..so its about 14 million
