I have a small admission to make. I subscribed to your channel about a month back but I've not had enough time to just sit and watch. I had subscribed for motivation, and to learn how to clean things that I never learned as of yet. This video popped up in my recommended, so I clicked and was determined to watch. Four-to-six minutes in I stopped your video, stood up, and went and cleaned my bathroom. I got a huge bag of rubbish out from under the counter (expired and multiples, etc). I kept cleaning and now it's all done and almost pintrist worthy. You are THAT good. Only four minutes to inspire! Thank you. haha
Always, always shop from a shopping list. When an item gets low, add it to the shopping list. That's how you avoid multiples of items in your home. Sometimes people find they don't like a particular shampoo after opening. If you don't like it for your hair, then use it as dish soap or cleaning soap. This will prevent waste.
I have a shampoo that I heard good things about but just doesn't work on my hair type. I mix the shampoo with dawn dish soap when I clean my hairbrush and comb and it works like a charm.
Yes, using unliked shampoo for some other cleaning job so as not to waste it, is something I've done. I've used as dish soap, used as cleaner for toilet bowl, used to handwash something, used in shower as bath soap.
Just last month, when I had Covid, I needed cough drops so badly, but I couldn’t leave the house. I had some tins of “throat soother” lozenges for singers (not COUGH drops, but better than nothing). But they’d expired in 2017. What to do, what to do? I used them anyway, even though the note on the package said not to use them after the expiration date. Because I’m a rebel. A desperate rebel, sure, but still a rebel. 🤣 I mean, I had Covid as a high-risk person with a compromised immune system. I figured if anything was going to kill me, it probably wasn’t going to be expired throat lozenges. 😛
LOL. I'm assuming since you wrote this that you survived Covid...and the expired throat lozenges. 👏👏👏 I do hope you are feeling better soon. Thanks for keeping me in the loop and for tuning into the show. 🤗
Angela Brown Cleaning Angela Brown Cleaning I did survive! It was pretty rough and I was on tons of medications and had some complications, but now that it’s over it’s a huge relief to have gotten the thing I spent 2.5 years being terrified of out of the way. And thank you for your channel. It’s been a huge help for me. I’ve been watching for a few years, but only recently realized I’d never hit the bell when I subscribed (the web version of YT doesn’t have the bell option in my browsers, which makes no sense), so I never got notifications when you went live. After a recent binge of a bunch of videos I’d missed, I finally fixed that in the app. YAY! Bought several of the tools you recommended in the dorm Live yesterday. I’ve got cleaning to do!
As I was decluttering my bathroom last year, I decided to use up most of my travel-size toiletries. They're all gone now. I was able to get rid of a whole wall cabinet.
Rev. Robyn Young That’s what I do … I add about 3 times the amount of water to it, swish in the bottle to mix, then pour it directly onto my wet hair and lather up.
FWebster.. yes about tipping the shampoo bottle upside down. I have a conditioner that doesnt flow easily. The bottle is plastic and the cap is tightly closed so I just leave the bottle upside down in my shower caddy.
28:28 Angela if you have an organization for women living in shelter ? Check if they accept toothbrushes donation Because the dentist might have a box of them already
This is all very helpful . And listening to the new tape, I just had chemo yesterday but I plan to walk a little bit when I get to work, maybe a little around the building .
Glad you found it helpful! Get your rest and take the walk when you have the energy. Chemo can take a toll on your body. Sending prayers for your healing and hugs. 🙏🤗
I have two types of shampoo & conditioner in my shower because I alternate. I’ve decanted Kirkland body wash into a smaller bottle for the shower. The larger bottle is in my bedroom linen closet. I started Decluttering under my bathroom sink and need to finish.
It's understandable to want to pass things on to others rather than throwing them away. However, it's important to assess whether the items are truly useful or valuable to the recipient, or if they are just adding to their own clutter. Consider finding ways to donate or sell items that are still in good condition, and only pass on items that are truly needed or wanted.
When I buy multiples of an item such as deodorant, I put a small sticker on it. #1 of 5 , #2 of 5 etc. When I use #5 of 5, it is time to shop for that item again. Face it life is complicated enough. This simplifies and saves money, too.
Another great idea with the toothbrushes from dentist, we pack them in shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. When packing those, we actually have partnered with a dentist that gives us toothbrushes, little toothpastes, and floss to put in those boxes! So, if you're packing a few, or your church is, those are great items to include!!
The thing that often happens to me with old gum is it’s so old that it doesn’t even hold together when I chew it. It turns grainy and liquifies in my mouth. 😝🤣
I think you should cover the silent to do list. Our stuff is telling us to do something with it. When we get rid of the item, the to do lists get shorter and you feel lighter.
When I rented, I would always remove their cheap stationary shower head and replace it with a nice one on the hose. Always saved their shower head and when I moved out I would switch it back and take my nice one with me. Works fine if you will be moving again in a few years. I wouldn’t save it if I owned the place.
Thank you for sharing this tip! It's a great example of making temporary changes to enhance your living space without causing permanent alterations for the next tenant
I think I'm getting rid of mine too. Somebody recommended the other day in our comments here to donate them to Habitat for Humanity - which takes household and home repair items and sells them in the restore. I hadn't thought of it myself, and yet there is a Habitat for Humanity place near me - so I'm donating mine there. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for joining us here and for being part of the bigger conversation.
Dentists get those freebies for free themselves from pharmaceutical companies, so I'd take whatever they offer and donate it to a shelter. Food banks will often accept toiletries also, if they're individually wrapped and unopened.

Condition for shave gel for legs if you don't like it.
@@gabriellecusson1400 oh yes, and this is also a great alternative to shaving foam for men.

Apples are WAY more valuable to me than candy. And magic sponges run a close second to apples. Love your presentations.
Situations like this are when postmates or Instacart become literal lifesavers😂
As I was decluttering my bathroom last year, I decided to use up most of my travel-size toiletries. They're all gone now. I was able to get rid of a whole wall cabinet.
Oh wow, I love that you took the Use it or Lose it approach and used them without them going to waste. What an inspiration. Thanks for sharing. 👏👏👏
We kept the original builder grade shower heads thinking we’ll put them back up when we move out with our handheld fancy shower head.
Glad to know that I'm not the only one! Thanks for chiming in!
Sometimes it can be hard to get the last little bit of shampoo etc out of the bottle. I started to turn the bottle upside down which made it easier.
That's true and turning it upside down like you do will get that last bit out. Thanks for chiming in!
Rev. Robyn Young That’s what I do … I add about 3 times the amount of water to it, swish in the bottle to mix, then pour it directly onto my wet hair and lather up.
Add warm water and use all the shampoos no waste 😂

That's a great suggestion! Thank you so much!
Watching replay. Just visited my niece. She must have 50 hotel shampoos under her guest sink. They’ve been there for 10 years.
Oh wow, that's a long time! Maybe you can share this video with her or help her declutter it next time you visit.

One of the excuses I have for clutter is that I am saving stuff to pass on to others...I can't stand for stuff to go to waste.

I use my cleaning supplies pretty quickly so I don't worry they will expire. I really need to clean out under my sinks!
That's great! Now you know how to start, you got this! Happy Cleaning!

Raybert, That’s a great idea! Thank you so much for sharing it. 😊
I do that. I've found it helps me.
Rayburt, I also mark the item with the name of the place I've bought it from if it's not a housebrand item.

If you have two half-full bottles of the same thing, you can combine them & throw away one of the bottles.
Thanks for sharing that tip! 🙌🙂
@@AskAngelaBrown I know, it seems obvious, but it avoids waste & saves space!
I didn’t know cleaning supplies had an expiration date?….?
Yes, they do. Some might still work the same but others are less effective.
The thing that often happens to me with old gum is it’s so old that it doesn’t even hold together when I chew it. It turns grainy and liquifies in my mouth. 😝🤣
Oh my, definitely time to get rid of that!
My success is that 3:57 my partner is appreciating my efforts so much that he is inspired to let go of some of his books too.
Oh wow, that is awesome!! Hope the progress between the both of you continues...you got this!
I don’t open the new one until I have used all of the old bottle.
That's great! Thanks for chiming in.
I give mustard packets to friend for when her hands cramp.
Oh wow, I've never heard of this! I had to look it up. That's so nice of you!
I think you should cover the silent to do list. Our stuff is telling us to do something with it. When we get rid of the item, the to do lists get shorter and you feel lighter.
